If you're up on all the cutesy Asian emos, such as the "Line" characters, Hello Kitty, Keith Haring, or even the Los Angeles Botanical Gardens - you'll find something to adore about Uniqlo - Japan's gift of metro-sexual cuteness to the world.
For a reasonable price, Uniqlo offers an array of quality casual wear suitable for all the Asian peoples of the world (ie. Ye women of little hip girth and shoulder breadth and ye men who prefer clothing to cling to their bodies, so that their nipples are exposed). Extra *warm* jeans for the winter, made of material so thick you can slap them over your yurts. *Airism* branded under garments supposedly wicks moisture off of your barely-sweating and odorless Asian bodies. Jeans that actually begin and end at decent points on your body (ie. Not five inches below your navel nor ten inches past your feet).
If your ideal version of yourself is wearing cropped pants in colors normally found in a Caribbean fruit basket, then you will love the colors here. Tangerine, some kind of puce, lavender violet cropped pants topped off with tops decorated with little flowers...the happy citrus choices are endless.
I've found very reasonably-priced good quality down jackets for a pittance, and these are offered every year, with the designs updated to the latest styles. There are also your basic solid cotton tshirts in short, 3/4 length and long sleeved lengths that don't stretch or wear out after one washing,
Uniqlo even offers a business casual line, depending upon what business you think you're in. I've seen unlined, flesh-colored polyester jackets bordering on the kind snake-oil salesman might wear to bag-lady maxi dresses in horrific zig zag zebra, polka dot and other patterns which will make you believe you've suffered a brain injury and are seeing spots in front of your eyes alternated with moments of sheer terror and dizziness then complete blackness. But some other items, such as a-lined dresses in spandex/cotton are very tasteful and are tailored to fit (at least me) perfectly.
The vibe here is conservative-looking clothes that won't break the bank. You won't get tight short shorts nor off-the shoulder, navel baring, peek-a-boo crotch surprise, when you bend over to pick a penny up from the sidewalk. Unlike other clothes found in Asia, you won't wonder whether that leg opening in those pair of pants is really made for your arm, and you won't get stuck halfway pulling that shirt over your head. Everything I've purchased here have lasted me a long time, and I always stop by here for wardrobe basics - cotton / linen shirts, walking shorts, t-shirts, khakis, etc. Uniqlo also offers online shopping and flagship stores in North America, and I'm told that the prices are a little less expensive than those found in Hong Kong or Taiwan.
The staff here is usually overwhelmed with the number of customers, but the service is also Japanese style, with the number of cashiers and floor staff adjusted to the number of customers waiting. They also won't hassle you when you refund or exchange a clothing item. read more
