We have been coming to Eastern Market for a few years to get raw meat for home made raw pet food. I had never noticed this place before. It's across the street from Capital Poultry.
The sign "dog bones" intrigued me. So I went over there with the dog. (See my photo.) When I asked, it turned out that the dog bones are smoked. I prefer raw bones, because they are much less likely to shatter into sharp pieces. I asked if they had any raw bones.
The man brought out two cow femurs. I chose one, and he cut it up into six pieces for me on the bandsaw, right before my eyes. I also got some ground sirloin, already in convenient one-pound packages, and tried some of the turkey jerky samples sitting out on the counter top.
A nice discovery.
When we got the dog home, I gave her one of the bone chunks and she ate the entire thing out on the front lawn. What a happy dog! read more
