I've been getting my hair cut by Emilia for nearly 25 years. I'll follow her wherever she goes! She is always educating herself on new styles and on top of the latest trends. She knows what's best for my hair in terms of my lifestyle. I'm always on the go and don't have too much time to dedicate to styling it each day. All of my cuts allow me to just roll out of bed and still look great. She is also a kind and compassionate person who I enjoy talking to whenever I visit. Emilia is excellent with the hair colors and respects her customers' sensitivity, opinion and choices in shades. Unfortunately I do not care for the new neighborhood of her salon nor the arrangements in the salon. The atmosphere is horrible. Street vendors walk in to sell stuff to patrons while you are getting hair color. Sometimes male and sometimes female. Local security guards will walk in and interrupt her while she is attending to women patrons. I find it extremely weird and unsafe. And many other patrons have expressed similar sentiments. I am told they have to earn their living so she allows them to walk around bugging her customers. This is unacceptable. Next door smoke shops and bar are not an ideal place for a hair salon to be nestled in. In addition, a male barber shop inside her salon is also a very awkward arrangement. Some women customers have complained about foul language coming out loud and clear while they are getting hair treatment. Many young men visit this location - some are cops as well. Some women have complained these men start following them around. She does not have the sensitivity to understand what a salon environment should look like therefore has not cared to pay much attention to it nor plans to. Wishing her the best as I do not intend to revisit her location, it is not a salon. And hope she starts caring for her patrons' personal space and privacy. Not everyone feels comfortable to have local vendors walk in a women's salon and disrupt them. read more

I've been to both posh downtown NYC salons and small neighborhood joints and Emilia and Grace strike just the right balance every. single. time. No one works more diligently to give you exactly what you're looking for than Grace and Emilia. I love that the salon is close to home, conveniently located on one of the main shopping drags in North Bergen, and that there's always ample parking. The foot traffic keeps it lively and keeps the flavor local - and they're really a part of the neighborhood that they serve. 1st time I went Grace did my hair. I asked for highlights to match the gray hair growing in and I got yellow highlights. I asked to fix my uneven layers and she have me face forming layers and left the rest. I left feeling happy because the blowout to hide my still uneven layers was good. The 2nd time I went I got the owner Emilia. I stated I wanted to let my gray hair naturally grow in. Her conversation was about gray hair makes you look older and i should so blonde highlights. Like I was gonna have them do that to me again. I asked for her to correct my uneven layers and I was going for the Farrah Fawcet look. I thought since she was from that era she had done that 100x already. She even engaged me in a conversation about the 70s fluffy hair. I said I'm so glad you understand that's the look I'm going for. I've attached pics of my hair I tried to blow out so you can see what this salon thinks is worth a $60 charge. The 2 stars is for the blowout. SHAME ON YOU! read more

She is professional, courteous and oh so talented, but what I most admire is that she is tremendously patient and accommodating, she truly wants you to leave in "AWH". Thank you, Emilia, for your time and attention! I make a special trip to get my hair cut and colored by Emilia. I now live about 90 minutes away from the salon but that doesn't matter to me. What matters is finding a place and stylist I can trust. I went to a local salon in Pennsylvania a few months ago and was charged $406.00 and almost had a heart attack. What's worse is that the color was mediocre, the cut was terrible, and the style was bad. What terrible service I received! I will never go back to this salon. At E&G I know that Emilia will be honest with pricing and do a nice job with color. The fact that the blowout she gave me, even on a rainy day, lasted for two weeks is also incredible. I had never gone so long without washing my hair up to that point, but my scalp felt clean and there was no oily residue as I often feel after two or three days after a blowout. My hair didn't feel heavy or greasy and there was no smell at all. I even called to inquire about what products she used on my hair during my last appointment because I was so pleased. I got a blowout by Grace and am giving it 2 stars because she did an above average job- I have gotten similar or better blowouts before so nothing outstanding. But I didn't find it to be a warm and friendly place at all. Grace pulled at my hair and used a lot more heat than necessary just to get the job done more quickly. And weirdest thing - I didn't even get a robe even after I asked for one! And clearly all the other customers had one. I don't recommend if you want a friendly place. read more

I had a really good experience at E&G. Grace was able to accommodate me a little earlier than opening time and she did an excellent job with my hair. I love it so much and it's been a long time since I've been truly happy with my hair coloring. She evened out my hair color and gave me perfect highlights. She was very knowledgeable and suggested the treatment that I needed for my hair to look good without being pushy. She took her time to do a thorough and good job, even corrected the highlights I had gotten done at another place; and to top it off she was nice enough to get me something to eat while I was waiting for my hair to be done. I decided to make an appointment at E & G after passing the salon one evening. I originally was only getting a single process but decided to get the keratin treatment as well. I was given a warm greeting when I arrived and was offered tea or coffee. It's not a huge salon which I liked because it makes it more intimate. You can tell that the staff have a relationship with their customers. Grace did my keratin treatment and was sweet and answered any questions I had. Her mom did my coloring and was just as nice. I was recommended E&G by a coworker and I have gone for haircuts and blow outs 2 times and I LOVED the cut every time. This time I went in for a balayage and OMG it came out AMAZING!!!!! Emilia worked on my hair and she consulted with me about the color a few times. I wanted something natural (which is hard to achieve, everyone gives you blonde highlights) but WOW, the end result was so on point!!! She recommended how much I should cut (based on my damaged ends) and still was able to keep so much length. My hair felt and looked healthy. I could not be happier with the end results. I have loved going to E&G Salon for the last 9 years and have gotten services (cuts, coloring, keratin and blowouts) from both Emilia and Grace and shampoos and head massages from Karyna. All of the ladies are excellent and I have always felt very happy with the results as well as with the warm atmosphere they and their other clients provide. Two years ago I had to go through chemotherapy and lost my hair. The ladies at E&G and their customers were so supportive and compassionate. I had always had very thick long hair and they helped me deal with the hair loss with so much compassion. I still remember crying as Emilia shaved my head while she and the other customers provided so much support, hugs and reassurance. Emilia and Grace also constantly worked with me to find a good style and cut as my hair grew back. Karyna has also shown so much compassion in finding solutions with my newly acquired problems with strong smells after my body chemistry changed. I've come to E & G three times now and every time I walk out loving my hair and my experience with these ladies. Elisa was so nice, professional and gave me good advice on how she can style my hair. The atmosphere they created is so welcoming and calming with nice music. I have had long hair for a while and wanted a fresh look. They were able to give me a great short hair cut with layers in the back and a face frame. I've been here a few times, hadn't been in about a year and recently went back for a glaze. I'm getting married in 2 months so I am very picky about the coloring and I have very sensitive skin and need to literally put like vaseline on my hair line to prevent color from staining my skin. After the wash, I noticed the hair stylist mixing my color, which I thought was a little early because she was currently cutting a man's hair, but didn't really pay attention. So I'm sitting in the chair and all of a sudden the young woman washing my hair begins applying the color, without any warning. I'm not even sure she was licensed to do that. The stylist did not even come over to see if she was applying it right, or tell me she was busy and would be with me afterwards and this other person would be applying my color. Nope. So I had to stop her and put the barrier on my hair line (it was too late by the way because it was already on my forehead and nose). The stylist did not even come over once, the girl who applied my hair color literally massaged it into my scalp which works great with shampoo but horribly with hair dye, my scalp was flaming red for a week, I couldn't even part my hair but had to wear it back to try to hide it, which of course just drew attention to the bright red stain at my hair line. I was VERY displeased with the whole coloring experience. It took almost 3 weeks for the bright scalp and stained skin to go away, everywhere I went people asked me if I just got my hair colored, TWO WEEKS after this occurred. On the upside, the stylist really knows how to blow dry long hair, the style looked great. They also really appreciate long hair here and will really trim it to help it grow and not chop it unnecessarily. They also gave me an awesome espresso. However I will not be coming back for a glaze. read more

I Love E&G ! I just had a hair cut and a perm and not only it looks great, but the team is absolutely fabulous. Alex cut my hair in layers and next day I already got compliments for my hair! I also had my perm done and I have the need to say how great it was. For someone like me that had her perm being done for the last 10 years, this is one of the best perms I've had. It looks so natural and healthy! Emilia is absolutely the best. She really knew how to do it and she goes the extra mile to have it looking great. Grace looked at my hair and she recommended me not to do perm as my hair was quite curly naturally.I just never could tame my hair properly to get rid of the frizz. She showed me how to set my hair properly to get the look that I wanted from a perm without frizz. Very happy with the results.
