This man is GROSS. Disgusting behavior. I literally walked in at 12:30, my confirmed appointment time. Walked into an awkward room of customers. Said hi to Dyson who replied "oh you're for me?" I put my stuff down and then he abruptly summoned me to have a seat in the back of the salon. Thinking he was about to wash me, but NO. He tugs on my 4c hair and says "I don't do short hair." I replied "okaaaay, your website, booking, not your own confirmation email stated that." He replied "well, I'm telling you now so send a request for your deposit back." Then he walked away leaving me stunned, confused, and embarrassed. Then he came back with a look like "you're still here?" I said "uhm, I'm confused, embarrassed, and inconvenienced." I noticed the lovely medium to light skin women in the shop with their softer coils (not curls) and without a doubt I know that my length of hair is not the problem. Natural Hair Silk Press Review. I have been in Dallas for almost 8 years and have probably tried about 12 different stylists. There was almost always an issue i.e. punctuality, professionalism or the final product. I had given up on a stylist for about 2 years at this point, when I found Dyson's IG Page. I was pleasantly surprised with how consistent he was with his clients and how there hair was BEYOND fab. So, I had to give him a try. First Bonus: After scheduling my appointment, he electronically confirmed it within 5 minutes. Second Bonus: The day before my appointment, I received a personal (not automated) text from him, confirming I would still be coming and ensuring that I had no questions. Third Bonus: He arrived early and was ready to start minutes before my appt time Fourth and Fifth: My wash and condition was excellent. He did not rush during the wash process and he did not try to scratch my head to death. His process of washing/conditioning left my hair/head with that clean, tingling feel that we all love. In addition to my silk press, I was also getting a trim. I was unsure if he would be one of those stylists that's a little heavy with the scissors. But he was Not! I sent him a DM on instagram on July 22nd, he responded August 1st with a link to book an appointment. I told him that I booked with him already and would see him Thursday. I get to my appointment at 9:56am, my appointment is at 10am. When I walk in I see that it's a girl in his chair that he's finishing up, he tells me to wait in the car and that he will call me. I wait and at this point it's 10:15 am and my appointment is at 10am. I see a girl walk back out just like I did so I ask her are you waiting for Dyson for a 10am appointment and she said yeah. I said wow he overbooked and I'm looking at reviews now and it looks like that this happened before. Shortly thereafter he comes out and says what's my name and then says your appointment was canceled because you didn't confirm and that he sent an email and text message, all lies! How do I not get an email AND text message!? I said I paid a $25 dollar deposit and drove over 20 miles and asked if he could try to fit me in, he said no that he has another client after the girl he decided to take, who actually came late to the appointment. I told him that I got an email asking if I had any questions to let them know, It never said I had to send an email to reconfirm again, even after paying a deposit. If I pay a deposit that means I'm serious and that I'm really coming! I asked the girl did she confirm and he was like no no me and her have been talking on instagram. I could tell the girl was an instagram model or stripper and that he would get more clout if he took her instead of me. Also look at how most of his clients look, Puerto Rican(easily manipulated hair) or video vixen like. Also most of his clients are first time clients as well, he doesn't usually have repeat customers. I'll stick to my hair stylist in Atlanta, these Dallas stylists are very inconsistent and mediocre. Instead of refunding my $25 dollars back he sent money like regular, so I ended up getting back $23 and some change. The person he has controlling his emails will cause him to go out of business with the TERRIBLE attitude they have. AMAZING SILK PRESS! I've been natural for about a year (transitioned for 2 before that) and have always been really selective with who I trust with my hair! Dyson made me feel really comfortable & was very communicative. The products he used on my hair made my hair & scalp feel so good without stripping it or weighing it down! A M A Z I N G! After having a really terrible experience elsewhere, I needed a quick fix. I did a little research looking for a local salon, but trying to avoid another terrible customer experience. I finally gave Dyson a call and he was able to fit me in for a silk press the very next day. I don't typically wear my natural hair (I usually have a weave) and after a POOR experience at another local salon, I was a bit skeptical going in. However, once I got to the salon, Dyson was friendly and professional. Most importantly, he was PROMPT. My appointment was 10:00 a.m. and he was already at his shop setting up when I arrived. Not calling/texting me that he would be late or causally showing up after our scheduled time. That alone started things off on the right foot. He got right to work and you can tell that he knows what he is talking about. I've consistently worn sew-ins for the better part of a decade and in that time, my natural hair has grown long, but not necessarily easy to manage. Dyson was very good. He asked questions about your hair and what you've done and about you. The only thing for me was this was the most painful silk press I've gotten. He put a lot of heat on the scalp for too long, the flat iron was literally on my scalp every time he went to press it and I kept making noises of pain but he didn't do anything about and didn't question if I was okay. I was a little hesitant about posting this review but I would hate for anyone else to experience what I experienced. I booked an appointment with Dyson for the day before thanksgiving about 2 months in advance. I have been natural for about 6 years but mainly wear my hair in braids under a wig and get it professionally straightened once a year during the holidays. My appointment with Dyson was set for 4pm. When I arrived about 5 minutes early I noticed that there were about 3/4 girls before me. Additionally 2 more women came in at 4:30 so it was clear that he was overbooked. I did not get my hair washed until 6:00pm. On the way to the wash bowl he whispered to his assistant that my hair looked too tangled and if it was he wasn't going to be able to do it. This is where I initially became very upset and concerned. If you think you won't be able to do my hair then please tell me that when I first arrived so I won't waste my time. Throughout the washing process I continuously asked his assistant if she thinks my hair is too tangled and she kept saying no I think it's fine. I told both the assistant and Dyson that my ends are bad and definitely need to be cut and that I always experience single strand knots. Dyson told me to my face that he had no idea what a single strand knot was. After getting washed and a steam treatment Dyson said my hair was really damaged and started cutting it WET!!!! About 1/4 of the way through blow drying my hair he said he couldn't do it. I left his chair with tears in my eyes, half of my hair chopped off and extremely dry and brittle hair THE DAY BEFORE THANKSGIVING!!!! Thankfully another stylist at the salon was able to do my hair after thanksgiving and my silk press turned out PERFECT!! If you have course hair please do not go to Dyson. His clients have heat trained hair and he does not have the time to actually look at your hair and determine what needs to be done. I have never left a hair salon balling my eyes out before. I also never received an apology from Dyson for this horrible service. I didn't end up paying for the service thankfully but he still has my $25 deposit. read more

I made an appointment with Dyson to do my hair months in advance as I was going out the country and wanted my hair to look nice and hold up well. Of course when preparing for any trip the few days before are a bit hectic, so the day of my appointment I texted him to ask if I could come in a few hours earlier since my schedule had opened up. I specifically said "if you have availability." He said yes come in at 4:30. I show up at 4:30 and he is working on someone's hair and asks me to have a seat and wait. After waiting about 20 minutes he speaks to another girl next to me on the couch and I find out she is also waiting and has been there for 45 minutes. He finally takes her to get washed meanwhile starting on yet another girls hair and at this point I'm pretty irritated that he's working on several people at once, failed to mention it to me and then had me waiting when I specifically asked if I could come in earlier. So I ask him if it's better if I just come back at 6:30 when I had my original appointment and then he says to me "that's fine," says something about running behind and I ask if I'll have to wait and he says, "well I don't rush my clients." No apology, no respect for my time. He acted like a complete diva as if the customer should expect to wait on him for hours after he made the mistake of double, no triple, booking people. So I leave, upset that I wasted an hour of my time waiting when I could have been at home doing some of the several things I needed to do in preparation for my trip. I come back at 6:30 and he's still working on another girls hair. I still wait about 10 minutes before he begins to wash me and then he asks me how I'm doing and I tell him that I'm honestly a bit annoyed and his attitude back was just classless. He was like, "well I'm good..." In addition to that condescendingly told me I should be happy because I was going out the country and not many people got to do that. I was so shocked at the lack of professionalism and customer service. In the end he finally slipped me a sorry apology which is why I tipped him. Had he not it would have been a 0. Especially since he did a mediocre job on my hair. As soon as I left my edges puffed back up, the waves he put in my hair immediately fell flat. YAAS HUNTY! My silk press looks amazing! So I was going through a last minute hair crisis and needed to make a same day appointment for a silk press & trim. I called Dyson and he was happy to fit me (a first time client) in last minute. He's conveniently located in Deep Ellum inside The Hair Lounge, which is a beautiful salon and a one-stop shop if you need multiple services. There are salon "booths" when you walk in, but there are also two more salons in the back-one for nails and another for weaves (from what I was told). I loved how the front salon was decorated-very inviting and stylish. I'm not sure what products Dyson used (I should have asked) but my hair is super straight (FYI I'm 100% natural) and I haven't seen it this shiny and full of body since high school! It's been four days since my visit and my hair is still silky, and it didn't revert AT ALL despite me being out in the heat all day on Saturday. I visited Dyson last December & I got a silk press and trim. The finished result looked nice, but my hair never reverted back to its natural curls as he said it would. My hair also smelled burned for a few weeks even after washing it multiple times so I knew something was wrong. After seeing another professional specializing in natural hair, it was confirmed that Dyson had given me heat damage. THIS IS PROBABLY THE MOST HONEST REVIEW YOU'LL GET ON THIS PAGE! If there were ever a time where I thought someone was using pure hatred and ill intentions in order to "care" for my hair, this would be the time. If I could turn away any potential costumer with thick, 4C hair that's prone to dryness and breakage, I will. He is not a true natural hair stylist and I was deceived into believing this was the case. Dyson will not tenderly care for your hair unless it is long and loose. He has a clear preference for clients and if you don't fit that criteria, you are NOTHING to him. Initially, I had the highest of hopes upon encountering the salon. I knew I would need a little TLC and a trim but I only received the latter. The reviews were good and the pictures were diverse and professional so I thought I'd give it a try. Now, I honestly wish I had not gone. Looks can be deceiving. Upon encountering my hair, he told me he was jot about to comb it out but he sure as hell did. Straight from the root. Dyson had no patience with the texture or the density of my hair. He raked through my hair and yanked my head from its position repeatedly. He had the audacity to continually ask me to hold my head in place as though he weren't snatching my hair from the root. He kept claiming it was my ends that were the cause for his actions but in my honest opinion, he was manhandling my hair and exercised his anger through his actions. I could hear him ripping my hair apart at the wash bowl and ripping it out with a fine tooth comb and a brush at the styling chair. He did not take any time to detangle, he just thought my hair was so unruly that he had to snatch it from root to end in order for it to reach his standards. The girls who went before me, sat in disbelief as he continually snapped my hair throughout the blow out. I was in shock and I honestly wish I had leapt from my seat and discontinued he services. This experience was so traumatic for me, I went home and cried afterwards. My hair had so much length and granted, it was thin, it was not as "unhealthy" as he claimed it to be. A PROFESSIONAL STYLIST SHOULD TAKE THE TIME TO REALLY CARE FOR A CLIENT'S HAIR. A PROFESSIONAL STYLIST SHOULD NOT GROW IMPATIENT AND BEGIN TO RUSH THEIR WORK. He did not care for the health of my hair and made that clear with every step he took. My hair was not the issue, he was the issue. He was racing against time and not caring for his own client. He made remarks about my hair and did not even apologize when he came close to burning my scalp. Dyson seems nice, and the salon was pretty cool...New York-ish styled on the inside. However, I more so had problems with his assistant than him. I usually like my stylist to put their hands in my while washing & conditioning so they know what it needs. However his assistant/the front receptionist did my wash. My hair was tangled, and she didn't take the time to detangle it. She didn't seem like she knew how to take care of natural hair. Although super nice,but not talktive...2 opportunities to detangle my hair were missed...during the shampoo & during what ever else she put on my head that didn't feel like conditioner...but was used before steaming my hair. After that, she blow dried my hair straight. Except it was still tangled, and she attacked my hair-which I knew had split ends with a paddle brush like I was an 8 year old. Therewas no care to it all & making it worse. I wanted to tell her that's going to cause more damage, but thought about Dyson's online videos & figured it would be ok. Most recommend detangling ends, and working their way up. I believe what she did trippled any split ends I had. Finally I was handed over to Dyson. Although I didn't see him perform any of that online magic on the previous client, I expected he would on me. When he was done, I wasn't excited! I think he could tell, although I tried to fake it. My ends were still split...not his fault, but his assistant didn't help & may have made it worse. If you have long hair with minimal split ends he MAY perform some of that online magic. I'm really starting to believe he set up with models with natural hair, and or take time out the day to do fab hair when the cameras are rolling. However, don't expect miracles in real life. The lady before me had nothing special done, nor did I. I actually retrimed my hair as well as restyled whwn I got home, as his seemed like a hack job. It was straight, but not worth the ride to Downtown Dallas. Could have paid $45 for some similar style by Walmart salons. They've done a better job with my hair. Also hair smelled like hot iorns for a day. ***After owner comments-clearly petty as well! Bring down from 3 stars to one. Dyson is very talented at what he does and you can tell it's truly his passion to make people feel and of course look good. I've had a few bad experiences in the past when it comes to salons so naturally I was a little nervous showing to my appointment but nonetheless Dyson was very sweet and professional. Over the past year, I've dealt with hair thinning due to stress and Accutane and was a little worried about how rough the other lady in the salon was while detangling my hair. As someone with curly/kinky hair it's known that when detangling, you start from the end and work your way up, I felt as though she would try rip the comb straight from the roots and down the hair shaft, I definitely left the salon with a very tender scalp. Maybe a word of advice would be to ensure that your hair is thoroughly detangled and free of knots so no extra hair will be ripped out while getting detangled. Besides that, Dyson was great and made my hair feel so shiny and healthy - he pays great attention to detail. He also trimmed my hair and was not super scissor heavy at all. I relied on these fantastic reviews and was unfortunately very disappointed. Two stars for the only good about my appointment- the fact that my hair is silky straight as advertised. Now on to the cons: 1. Although I was a few minutes early, he did not start on my hair until 70, yes, 70 minutes after my scheduled appointment. 2. HE NEVER APOLOGIZED. Instead, he blamed it on the fact that I have long hair and therefore should've come when it was less busy. 3. Which brings me to my next point. What was supposed to be a 1-inch trim turned into a 2.5-inch cut! 4. He was juggling 3-4 clients at a time, which left me sitting and waiting in between transitions from chair to shampoo to dryer and back to chair. I was there for 3 hours total. 5. He used WAY too much heat. 6. He charged me $95 for a silk press & trim, which is not consistent with the prices on his website nor with some of the prices reviewers have posted here. I tipped out of kindness because he rendered a service. But never again in life will I be back. Great customer service could've changed that - I should not have been charged that much and even if it is the correct price, I shouldn't have had to pay it in full given how long I had to wait. read more
