I had an extremely disappointing and humiliating experience at Dyson Pediatrics. I was denied access to my own child's PCP appointment and told I needed "approval" to take him to the doctor because I am profoundly deaf. Despite clearly communicating my needs, staff refused to accommodate basic communication through writing and instead insisted on documentation that should not have been necessary. The situation was handled in a way that felt dismissive, discriminatory, and deeply disrespectful. Being treated this way--especially in front of a full waiting room--was embarrassing and unacceptable. My ability to hear has no bearing on my ability to care for my child, and it should never be used as a reason to question my role as a parent. We will be seeking care elsewhere moving forward. I cannot support or recommend a practice that treats patients and parents in this manner. read more

I did a lot of research before deciding to bring my daughter to this facility and visit with Dr. Altamore. My daughter and I were both very pleased with the staff and doctor. Because of Covid-19 we were really worried but everyone wore a mask, there was hand sanitizer throughout the clinic, it was not crowded and it was very clean! Dr. Altamore did a very good job at explaining everything to my 10 year old daughter and listened to all we had to say. It was a long appointment but in a very good way because we left with all of our questions answered and a lot of information. If I could review Dr. Dyson and his billing office separately, Dr. Dyson would get a 5. I met with him when I was pregnant with my first son and I really liked his philosophy on childcare and he seemed very anti-intervention. My first son was tiny, genetically, and I had some issues with getting the doctor to see that he was keeping to his 3% growth curve (I mean SOMEONE has to be on the bottom, right?!?) and not labeling him failure to thrive. He's now a happy, healthy 4 year old who is small, but not excessively so. He circumcised both of my boys and did a phenomenal job. He always has a good attitude, a smile, and is receptive to pushback and polite suggestions. Unlike many doctors, he is not condescending, and he does try to explain things on the level of the person to whom he is speaking. Dr. Dyson is generally quite responsive, we've never waited too long for an appointment, and he's always concerned about holistic care, this also goes for the other doctor in the practice. When we went to our sons 3 year old appointment, we were advised about screen time, sugar, bedtimes, and tooth brushing, which I thought was neat if unnecessary for us ;) The billing office is a nightmare, which I'm not sure whether this is a facet of the main office coding appointments improperly or us not being properly notified as to insurance. We have been told that there is no copay for wellness checks, but mysteriously, weeks after appointments with no copay, I'll get a bill for the copay. I've TRIED TO PAY THE COPAY while in the office, they say "there is no copay," but then I get a bill. They even tried to send me to collections for $20. It has been INFURIATING. The front office staff is generally nice, but they can be unresponsive if you're not in front of them. For example, I contacted them to get access to the patient portal for my second son months ago and they still haven't sent the requested email! I contacted them this week about a prescription and it took 3 days for them to send it to the other doctor to review because Dr. Dyson was on vacation. Finally, when my son got his 6 month shots, the nurse missed the muscle completely and he had a small knot, well instead of shrinking that knot has gotten larger and 3 months later, he has a huge knot on his leg. It doesn't appear to bother him, but when I called to make an appointment I mentioned it and the front desk lady says "yes, that happens, it should go away" ...this was AFTER I told her it had been there for three months. My mother is a pediatric nurse and has been for 30 years. She has given hundreds of thousands of vaccinations. This is NOT normal. It's not okay, and the staff giving vaccinations need better training if this is a regular occurrence. I recommend the office, but be diligent in your follow ups with the front office and billing office because what they say doesn't match what they do at times. My husband and I are first time parents and love dr dyson! He's professional, friendly, and very calm. Great for first time parents! Office space is new, up to date, very welcoming and clean. It's a bit of a farther drive for us but it's worth it because he's really a great pediatrician. They have plenty of patient rooms and lets us stay a bit if we need to finish feeding our baby. Wait time hasn't been that long for us either. 15 minutes at most when they appear busy? We usually get seen by nurse and then doctor pretty quickly. Dyson spends an appropriate amount of time with us and does not appear impatient or waiting to finish up with us to move on to his next patient. We've just started being parents and seeing dr dyson, but so far we are loving it! read more

As a first time mom i love Dr.Dyson. He was very thorough with me about her care. He looked her over from head to toe front to back, literally. He noticed a few Mongolian spots on my daughters back that i hadnt even noticed. He showed me how to keep her awake during feedings and how to place her head during tummy time. He noticed her head was becoming lopsided at around 4 weeks, again shows how thorough he had been previously checking, he noticed the slight change in the shape that i didnt notice until he pointed it out. He was able to teach my husband and i how to correct it before it got worse. He pierced my daughters ears at 12 weeks and they are perfect. He doesnt tske insurance for piercings but it was only $35 including your choice of gold or silver studs. I honestly have no complaints. Bring your child here!! read more

We drive an hour and a half each way for our kids to see Dr Dyson because he's really that good. With our firstborn, he manually diagnosed the beginnings of a difficult-to-diagnose health condition, and so we were able to get our daughter non-invasive preventive care that kept her from developing what would have been a serious lifelong health problem. But that's not the only reason we love Dr. Dyson. Even when it's just routine care, he consistently delivers no-nonsense, evidence-based medical care and advice with warmth and humor. He has an exceptional bedside manner with the kids, and just as importantly, he always makes time to converse leisurely with us parents, to make sure any questions we have are fully answered and that we leave feeling equipped to meet the challenges of parenting through all stages of our kids' development. This all means that every routine visit is an opportunity not only to ask questions about growth, wellness, nutrition, or educational milestones, it's also a chance to ask about discipline or home environment choices. Dr. Dyson obviously cares about the family unit, inquiring casually about whether "mom and dad" have had a chance to go out for dinner in the wake of a newborn or whether mom has gotten out of the house with two infants in tow. With this whole-life approach, he's come to be someone we trust for both medical care and the occasional good-humored discussion of managing a toddler. Bottom Line: Highly recommended for anyone with kids living in a hundred mile radius of Tucson. read more

I will never go back here again! I came in for my son's 18 month wellness check, which doesn't require a copay. Dr. Dyson asked me how my son was doing with talking. As I was not prepared, I said that he spoke about 5 words on his own. Dr. Dyson said that we needed to see a speech therapist and an audiologist. That was the end of the conversation. I went home and started writing down all the words my son says and he says 21 words on his own. A few days ago I received a bill for $40 (my copay) in regards to that visit. I called Dr. Dyson's office and asked why I was being charged. They said it was because they had to talk about something outside the standard wellness check. I asked them what that was and they said it was about him talking. I told them that I didn't bring up anything about him talking, that Dr. Dyson did. They said that because I said he was only speaking about 5 words, which isn't the standard speaking level and that he needed to see specialists so the visit became about health and was the same as if I would've came in and said he had a rash or the flu. This is completely wrong! Because they didn't ask me to notate the words that he says ahead of time so that I could've been prepared for the visit they took advantage of a parent being caught off guard and charged them for it. They are looking for any way to get money and will take advantage of you the minute they get a chance. Even if they offer to refund me the $40 for my copay I will never go back there. I usually don't write reviews but I want make sure that any other parents that go there know that when they come in to this office they need to have every bit of their childs life written down in case the get a pop quiz and fail and receive a bill for it in the mail. read more

Have had nothing but bad experiences with this place. We made our sons 1 year shots months in advance 2 days prior to the appointment we get a call telling us we need to change the appointment. Hard to do since we both took the day off to take him. They first told us is was because it was 2 days prior to his birthday and the shots would not be approved by the insurance. I thought that was odd so I called the insurance company and they laughed at what I was told by the docs office. I called the office back saying the insurance company said it will be covered being 2 days early. So we kept the appointment and the office girl said it would be fine. In her voice I could tell something was not right but she would not tell us. We arrived the day of the appointment and was told we can do the wellness check but no shots since he was not a year old again we were told by the office girl it was ok and by the insurance company but apparently the doctor will not do them early (2 days early not a month) so we walked out told them thank you for wasting our time. A month later we received a 620$ bill from something they did not explain at all. The bill was for some genetic testing for new diseases. They told us it was for strep testing. The girl said insurance should cover it but did not explain anything about the genie testing for new diseases. Again horrible communication between staff and patients. We called the genie testing company and we were shocked by some of the testing that was not explained to us. The sad thing is the doctor was super nice and did communicate very well when you get to talk to him. It's the other medical staff and front office that screwed it up. read more

We recently moved to the Tucson area from the East Coast and Dr Dyson was in the top three physicians for the Tucson area on several websites I found so we decided to check him out. We were very please with our first visit. The wait time was a bit long, but it was with the wait bc he spent quite a bit of time with us - which for a well baby visit we were extra impressed! He was informative, through and had a very pleasant & warm personality. His staff was friendly too. Dr. Dyson has been seeing my son since he was born. Although he is only 4 months old, I love the attention and personalization he offers. He is very professional, caring and he explains everything in great detail in a way I can understand. His staff is kind and friendly and the office is extremely clean and welcoming. I have been with Dr. Dyson since I found out I was pregnant. He has had some questionable suggestions, but we have been able to talk through them to make decisions that worked for us. Since he moved to the bigger location, his bedside manner has declined severely. Each visit since he has moved to the new location has been very impersonal, quick and I feel like he isn't listening or even trying to make my son (who's 6) or I feel comfortable. It's all business. His 6 year check up was all about weight. He is at the top of the percentile for his age and height and he told my son straight to his face he was obese. I was truly upset. He could damage my son's self esteem at a very young age, but thought, it's the start of Covid, stressful time, I will let it slide. I took my son back a month ago for what I believed was an ear infection. He had been complaining his ears hurt and was incredibly congested. When Dr. Dyson came in he gave a super quick check and told me he has the beginnings of an ear infection, but not enough for antibiotics. It has been over a week of him not feeling well at this point. Then, he immediately focused on his weight and said he has gained too much weight since his 6 year check up. He stated Covid has not been kind to kids weight and looked at my son and told him he was obese. AGAIN. Truly unacceptable. Bedside manner is non-existent and I am looking for another doctor and will not be returning. Which is incredibly sad since he has been his doctor since birth. He is so disconnected he didn't even notice my shock at his behavior or the sad look on my son's face when he called him fat, which he is not. He is healthy, strong and as his mother I am not concerned. I look at my son and not just the stats. The one big no no for me is treating the numbers and not the patient. read more

Dr. Dyson is always easy to approach with my questions and always knowledgeable. I feel 100% confident in his skills, abilities and analysis. When there is an issue with my children that requires extra attention, Dr. Dyson knows what to do and his reaction is always calm and never makes me feel uneasy. He was able to recognize early that my son needs glasses. When we met with the optometrist she said it was great it was caught early because it could be corrected and he will possibly be out of glasses by next year. Dr. Dyson goes the EXTRA mile and calls after hours to ensure our kiddos are good after they receive a set of shots. I would not recommend this pediatrician to anyone. First, he seems all about the money. He will recommend that I bring my baby back for an appointment for something and when I come in to discuss it, he only goes over his vitals which was not the point of the appointment. He's also about the money because every appointment I had, he opened my sons diaper to see if he was circumcised and told me he does circumcisions. That happened 3 times. Second, he is in and out. He spends a maximum of 8 minutes in the room discussing my sons growth and doesn't explain anything thoroughly. Thirdly, his office staff is rude. As the assistant was measuring my son, he was crying and told me his length and when I asked her to repeat herself because he was crying in my ear, she yelled out his size to me. Fourthly, I ended up having my son circumcised there and dr. Dyson decides to tell me the aftercare while he's operating on my son. To say the least, I wasn't going to remember everything he's said nor could I really hear him over my son crying and me being a bit traumatized as my first newborn have his surgery right in front of my eyes. So after the procedure I ask for aftercare instructions and his assistant looks at me with a blank stare. They did not have a print out prepared to give to patients for the aftercare for circumcision which to me, is really bizarre. The assistant ended up finding instructions online and printing it out for me which weren't they same instructions as the doctor was giving me. So please do not chose this as your child's pediatrician. He is not hands on or does he seem like he truly cares. read more
