Out to celebrate a wedding anniversary and looking forward to some great Chinese food, we opted to go to Dynasty Garden as in the past have really enjoyed their food. I noticed first of all it was not very cool inside and the washroom I used was stuffy and warm.
About to sit down after filling up at the buffet, my daughter pulled the edge of the chair under her in order to sit down and the seat lifted up a bit, pinning her finger between the chair seat and the metal piece it should have been attached to. The pain was so great she was in tears. I asked the waitress for ice and she brought it fairly quick. The woman at the front desk came to take a look and moved the chair to another table. Did not even say she was sorry. I ended up picking out another chair (most of the chairs were kind of soiled (cloth seats) for her to sit on. It took some time before she was well enough to eat.
Later a man (owner) came by to talk to some other customers and as passed by asked how we enjoyed the food. My daughter told him what happened and all he said was "these things happen" and moved the chair to the back of the room. He noted a screw was missing.
At the time of the bill, we heard him say to the waitress - "give them 10% off". My daughter went to the cash register and told him her meal ought to be free as it could very well have cut her finger off - the dent and bruising went quite deep. He told her to take it up with his insurance company. Imagine!! Almost losing a finger and he tells her to take it up with his insurance company!!
He did reluctantly promo her meal in the end but was not happy or gracious. Not at any time did I hear him say he was sorry.
I want to add that children are charged by their age, so our 4 year old grandson, who ate one piece of meat was charged $4.00. The buffet was $15.00 for adults and you are charged for uneaten food left on your plate. Way too expensive for my taste!!
The wine, by the litre, came to $23.00 - a total shock as it was cheap wine and we could not finish it, it was so bad. Guess we should have asked before ordering. The food was not bad, the ginger beef had more honey than ginger, and the noodles were dry.
We will not be going back. Fortunately there are other Chinese food restaurants to go to but for a celebration such as ours, it was not a pleasant meal. read more
