Buffet servings were stale and cold! Refills were scarce but service was good. Bad experience!

Only ate there once, yet, I remember enjoying the food there. My mother loves going there whenever she is in town.

A wide variety of Good food, good portions, all at a fair price. An excellent dining experience-What more can I say?

Got there just after open, so nothing was particularly out yet for the buffet, but outside of it being greasy it was good. Particularly liked how different it was to any of the other chinese/japanese places in town, even having katsu on the buffet. Our mistake I suppose for being there right after open but other then that, it was good. If you'd like a change from the average buffet, it made for a good lunch read more

All the restaurants in town had huge waits, I called some other Chinese restaurants and none were doing indoor dining and when I called Royal Wok, I don't believe they were doing indoor dining but man oh man the customer service !! The lady on the phone asked for how many and she said she would set up a table for us in the restaurant! We weren't expending that! We got there to a clean, ready table and menus! We felt so special! Was a great experience, and the food was really tasty! Great people there, good food. No complaints!! read more

We were passing through Salmon Arm on Boxing Day. The menu was a bit confusing as they offer all you can eat sushi and also have a Chinese buffet. However, upon request we were offered a menu of Chinese dishes. We ordered the sesame chicken, chicken lo mien and beef and broccoli. Somehow all food arrived steaming hot in about five minutes. The portions were generous and the quality was very good. We will return. Update: Did return on the way back. Staff had changed somewhat. Ordered chicken lo mien, sesame chicken, pork dumplings and beef chop suey. The dumplings were and sesame chicken were good as usual but the beef chop suey was mostly bean sprouts and the chicken lo mien has a completely different flavor. Couldn't identify the flavor but it was common to the chop suey. Didn't like it as much. Still will likely return. read more

Don't let the old DQ building and past history of the previous tenants scare you away from going into try this place if you like good authentic Chinese food. We eat here at least once a week and love the choices and diversity on their menu, the people who own it have moved here from Toronto this past summer and really care about two things : customer service and quality of food and believe me it shows !! My clients had told me about it and I am so glad I listened if you are driving past on the Trans Canada you should stop in and try it. They do a great take out business the decor isn't great as it is an old DQ but they have done some updates recently and it does look better. I love the chicken balls, kung pao, garlic chicken, ginger beef, sweet and sour pork, fried rice to name a few , oh and some of the best sliced pork I have eaten in Canada or the USA. I don't like the spring rolls but that is ok because everything else is so delicious it makes up for it ! read more

Hard 5! I like the concept of to-order buffet. Less waste. I DO eat what I can without it becoming a half-drunk, hungover, member-measurement party. I also feel really good after eating a lot of food here. Wow! We ordered from here last week and we love our Chinese food and we always order from the Jade buffet but they are closed for the month of February and we tried Yans last month and it was disgusting and so over to Royal Wok we went! Absolutely delicious food! Fresh, good portion size and awesome choice of entree I'm the family size for 4. Very very happy with the money that we spent that is comparable to Jade....we are loyal to jade but it's going to be a toss up next time whom we order from.....we will definitely be ordering from the Royal Wok again! One star for effort, but the flavour if simply lacking. I don't expect chow mein to be sour... Apart from the sub par quality in the dishes (we ordered Cantonese chow mein, sesame chicken and a mixed shrimp and scallop dish) the service was lacking. We didn't get cutlery, and service felt like the server didn't want to serve us. I'm having trouble composing this post with all the things wrong with this restaurant, I should have clued in with its quality when I saw Japanese sushi being offered in the menu - in a Chinese restaurant. When passing by through salmon arm and you're looking for Asian food, I would stay away from this one. To summarize; mediocre Chinese food, lacking service, ?? Japanese food. My recommendation is to avoid unless you want to participate in an experiment in Chinese-Japanese fusion (which they fail at). read more

I DID NOT enjoy the few times i went there. The service is rude and no one seems to pay attention. The food was average and there are way too many options. I went for the all you can eat Sushi and expected lots of good sushi but they only allow you to stay for 2 hours and they brought it out so slowly we barely got to eat any then told us to leave cause we'd been there too long. They also didn't bring us what we wanted and never even brought out water out. I would not recommend this place and im furious about how they treated us. read more

Bad. Do not eat here. When they first opened up they were excellent for six months. Slowly they got worse and worse. Smaller plates and more batter. I think they realized that Canadians are forgiving and dumb dinners, and won't complain or make a fuss. He forgets that many of us are from Calgary and Vancouver, and that we know what good Chinese food is all about. On my final visit to this place, I had called in an order for two dinners. I paid extra because it was their special chicken dish. I picked it up. The place was quiet. I didn't look in the container, I just paid and left. Almost 40 bucks. When I got home I saw that it was not good. He had warmed up what looked like yesterday's food. It just looked like left overs off someone else's plate, tossed into the plastic box. YUK! Disgusting. Even the egg rolls had been microwaved and were rubbery and luke warm. I was embarrassed to serve this 'food' to my guest. We were very hungry so we picked at it, but it was absolute garbage. I called and complained. The owner seemed shocked that I wasn't happy. The plump chicken I was expecting, and paid a premium for, turned out to be hard little cubes of dried out chicken, mixed in with old dried out fried rice. There was one small piece of cold, half cooked broccoli in each dinner. I posted a bad review because I was angry, and rightly so. I ran into the owner at Walmart one day, and he was very angry at me for posting the bad review. I thought he was gonna go all Bruce Lee on me. I told him to his face, that I was shocked he had done that to me. I had been a very regular customer. I guess he figured that I wouldn't say anything, but he was wrong. He never apologized for ripped me off, and that's just wrong, and he knew full well what 'he' had done. It was him alright, the owner who served me, cause he was the only cook on duty that night. That was two years ago. I wanted to give him a chance to make it right. I went in and told him that if he 'gave' me two dinners, done right, I would delete the bad review. He refused to serve me. He started yelling at me, and he told me to get out. This guy is a scum bag. I've heard many complaints all over town, and yet, sometimes people DO have a good experience. It's unpredictable at best, and that is not what you want when you spend good money in a restaurant. I have heard of small portions and terrible inappropriate service at the table. I heard of one lady who bought the buffet. Apparently she didn't finish all the sushi she had taken. When she went to pay at the counter, the waitress scolded her, and charged her extra money for the wasted food left on her plate. That's just not right. I can see that my old review has been removed from this site. They must have paid YELP extra cash to remove all their bad reviews. There were many on here before. Last time I drove by, it looked like they had gone out of business. Good riddance to a bad restaurant and a poor businessman. I hope they leave my review up this time. I just want to warn others. I want my $ 40. worth. Here is the worst part, this guy knows how to make excellent food, but he got greedy, he got lazy, and he thought we wouldn't notice. Fairly good food in the buffet, though it is rather small on quantity. One or two of the items will switch out from time to time, otherwise it is always the same. The sushi they offer is great and they are the primary reason I go to this buffet, that and the ginger beef. The staff have gotten much better with getting water to the tables lately, though their doorbell is excessively annoying. I do wish that it was put in the kitchen and made quieter or just install a switch to turn it off during a rush. I went there yesterday and the doorbell almost made me want to leave before sitting down with my food. read more

Awful food & service! Cheating! Be aware! There were 8 of us in total yesterday. We are from out of town to look for food in Salmon Arm. When we were left to a table, then we were totally being left on our own! We were not sure what to do, I was looking all over the place to see if there was a sign to explain how things work if we were not being explained how things worked there. Of course there was none. There were a few staff there, and it wasn't even that busy, but for some reason all the staff seemed to be "occupied", so we just decided to go ahead and start helping ourselves with the buffet. (seems we were not offered any menus). We arrived there around 7:30, the food they had in those "food containers" was really terrible. All dishes looked just like leftovers, and there was no new nor fresh cooked restock added to it the time we were there. So we pretty much cleaned up the end bits for them. Soggy and gross! And nobody came to ask for drink orders, I had to go to the front and ask for that. And when we were ready to pay, here comes the part that people should be aware: They pre add the 13% tips on our bills! And when I questioned about that, a Chinese lady in a yellow polo shirt with their logo on, super duper rudely replied to me that it's the way it's done, when there is a group more than 7, they automatically add the 13% (later on changed to 6 during the discussion), and it's normal. She was literally yelling at me and in a threatening voice. People, it is not legal for a food service place to automatically charge the gratuity without the customers' consent in BC. And catch this, if I have not known any better and let her put in the end amount, the debit machine still would have asked for the tipping option, and I would've tipped twice! How sneaky! I don't know if she was behaving like that because we are Chinese as well and she thought we didn't know better? (there are a lot of new immigrants who might not as knowledgeable). I have lived in Canada for 22 years and have never experienced something like this! So people, please be aware of this place! Of course we are definitely not going back. They do not deserve to stay in business if that's how they do things there. read more

Service was reluctant, we had to ask for water 3 times. Food was awful! Greasy, overly sweet, seemed like it was soaked in oil.

These are hands down the best Asian cuisine in salmon..... Great prices awesome sizes and the taste is out of this world only reason we didn't give a five out of five is sometimes the service can be rocky but we love the waitress extremely professional and friendly. read more

First visit here. Not bad. Fairly attractive as Chinese restaurants go. Service friendly but maybe slightly awkward. A limited chinese buffet, but I don't object to that as long as it also has quality. Food warm enough...just. 2 soups offered. The wonton was pretty much cleaned out of wontons, so went for the sweet & sour which was good but maybe a tad spicier than either of us have experienced other places, although it IS normally a spicey soup. Limited amounts of food was all in covered steamers which kept it warm without becoming dried out. It was all okay but nothing that I can say particularly stood out one way or another. I only realized that there were japanese items and some of the usual cold items tucked around the corner after I had filled up on my second trip to the hot Chinese food. Too bad as I really would have enjoyed the Japanese rice rolls (Sushi) more as an appetizer. I thought the ones I tried were pretty good...but I was already full. There was also the usual ice cream for desert. Buffet for seniors $17. I didn't check to see if they had a regular menu and wasn't offered one. Would like to try that at some point. read more

I just came ere for the 3rd time and me and my family have found 3 hairs in our food would not recommend again

cheap and not bad at all for chinese food deep in b.c. the menu is typical north-americanized chinese food, but there's a hint of authentic-ness (eg, type of rice noodle and flavoring they use for chow mein). lunch specials are decent portion. cons: hate the fast-food joint setup of the dining room, and that ambiance makes it harder to enjoy the food. also $1.25 per cup of tea, they wouldn't offer refills, and it's not even chinese tea. they served us watered-down japanese style green tea. read more

The service was terrible both times I went. Me and a couple friends went for some all you can eat sushi but only two of us were eating. Considering its 22 dollars a plate, my boyfriend wanted some onion rings and so I ordered a few for him and as soon as he took one bite, ms boss lady came over and said is he eating too? He will be charged (22$) to eat as well. She was going to make us pay another plate because of one onion ring, out of all like 7 things we ordered. At this point I was pretty pissed off. Doesnt help that she was correcting everything I did by flipping my menu over and telling me I cant use the other side, giving me floaty water, and being very rude. When our food came, less than half of it came, when we asked she said that she didnt want to have to waste it if we couldnt finish it. So we had to order more. I ended up ordering a third plate (I was paying for dinner as a treat) just so my boyfriend could eat some damn onion rings and whatever else he wanted. We ordered onion rings twice, and both times she didnt bring all of it. The sushi was only okay; the chicken kebab was dry, just wasn't great. We were all pretty done with the place by the end. So when I went up to pay (75$ it wasn't worth it) I was having card troubles, and I apologized and my friends left to get movie tickets while I paid; another worker there was being judt down right rude to me, tellin me (not even asking) that my friends had to come back and pay for it saying I have to call them and tell them to come back, when im the only one with money obviously I said no, but she persisted for way too long. Eventually I found another way to pay and the store manager was helping at this point and he was very nice and very helpful, which made me feel a little better despite being embarrassed about my card. All in all, terrible service, decent sushi, but 22$ is too much for one plate of okay food. I didnt appreciate being treated like that and I won't be back soon. read more

We are so happy with the food! Lunch specials for 6.95, take out for 1 that feeds me 2 or 3 times, and now they have sushi! Not only do they have sushi but all you can eat! Sashimi included. The owners are very kind and the food is superb. We have now officially switched to the Royal Wok for take-out after being with the 'other guys' for the past 12 years! Welcome to Salmon Arm! read more
