In fact, one time they took me to the top of White Top mountain but didn't pack the correct bike (I paid for a tag along). Thank goodness there was a man there who let me switch bikes with him so I could attach the tag along. This past visit, the 2 staff ignored me when I asked for a cruiser, (I have lower back issues). They gave me a man's mountain bike, but I was pulling a tag along so it was very difficult getting on and off the bike. And it killed my lower back. Not to mention the comfy seat was torn so it wasn't that comfy!!!! Ouch!!! We were there on a Tuesday so it wasn't that busy, and there was plenty of bikes available. On a good note we really like the shuttle drivers. They are very kind and helpful.

From the moment you arrive, they go above and beyond--checking you in, helping deliver hay and supplies to the barn, assisting you with backing in your trailer, and even knowing exactly what's needed to get it leveled. The paddocks are fantastic and give your horses plenty of space to roam and relax after a long ride. Everything was well-maintained--clean, freshly mowed, and the bathrooms were spotless and spacious. As for the trails, there aren't many. The main 8-mile trail is mostly an old blacktop/gravel road. We also rode the Morrell Trail, which takes you to the top of the mountain. Be prepared for a lot of switchbacks--about 16 inches wide--with a drop-off on one side and a dirt or rock wall on the other. We had an inexperienced rider with us on a solid horse and had no issues. I'm glad we did it, but I probably wouldn't do it again--lol. I've seen some comments about the road leading into the campground. Yes, it is narrow, but I didn't have any problems with my 35-foot truck and trailer. Honestly, I've been on narrower roads in Indiana. We also took a day trip to the Blue Hole, which is definitely worth visiting--especially on a hot day. One tip: don't wear flip-flops for the walk down.

You are not coming to Rainbow with the thought of a resort location with amazing amenities. If you like to fish, play horseshoes, and listen to music then this is your spot. We had a full hookup site, so not having a bath house wasn't a problem. There isn't cell service, but there was wifi. It was a little spotty, but worked enough for us to check messages daily. Everyone we came across, including Kevin (the owner), was incredibly friendly and hospitable. There's not many places you go that people motion for you to come over and pull up chairs for you to join them. We placed several games of horseshoes, it can be addictive. We went ahead and made our reservation to return in the spring since peak season runs from April to September and they stock trout 4 times a week during those months. The campground stays hopping during that time and there don't seem to be many nightly sites. Most sites are occupied by seasonal campers that pay the winter storage fee as well. Overall, Rainbow Campground is a good choice if you are looking for a spot at Big Tumbling with friendly folks and necessary amenities. If you are looking for bells and whistles and a commercial type of place, then this is not the place for you. Leave these sites for those of us that appreciate a relaxing weekend away in a place that truly welcomes you.
