Family ran business, eager to help you get going on the Virginia Creeper Trail. Conveniently located right in the heart of Damascus. Each bike comes with a flat tire repair kit in a small bag. Helmets are optional but they did have plenty in nice condition to choose from. They shuttle you up to the top of the trail at White Top. Adults $26 Children $24 I think we did get a 10% discount for having a larger group. We will definitely use this bike rental place again! *my only suggestion would be a locker room type situation for those who come off the trail muddy BUT they were nice enough to offer us a box to put our muddy wet items in.

The ride up in the van was easy and not scary at all considering the switch backs and pulling a load of bikes.

Once they drop you off, you're on your own to make it back to the bike shop. Definitely recommend making a reservation for a bike ahead of time to guarantee a spot at your desired time. And be sure to arrive 30 minutes before so you can get set up with a bike. I read all the reviews and watched lots of TikToks about the 17 mile bike ride itself--it's described as easy and mostly downhill. Based on all of that, I rented a regular bike but regretted that decision later due to the amount of uphill stretches there actually were. Maybe my bike seat was not adjusted to the correct height for me, but I thought the ride was very challenging and my quads were on fire. I was actually worried I might not be able to finish and would die alone somewhere along the trail--and I could barely walk when I got done with the ride. I would recommend older or out of shape cyclists consider renting an e-bike instead of a regular bike. I saw lots of seniors riding back and forth on the trail with big smiles and I realized it was because they were on e-bikes. There is a small store that sells ice cream, water, and has a bathroom (basically porta potties) about an hour into the ride and after that, there is nothing. There is a big grass parking lot behind the building with plenty of room for cars.

the staff were very nice and the bikes were really great and the scenery was fantasticread more

We typically use Creeper Trail Bike Rental and refer our renters to them as well. However the last…read more2 times I used them the people helping me were not very attentive. In fact, one time they took me to the top of White Top mountain but didn't pack the correct bike (I paid for a tag along). Thank goodness there was a man there who let me switch bikes with him so I could attach the tag along. This past visit, the 2 staff ignored me when I asked for a cruiser, (I have lower back issues). They gave me a man's mountain bike, but I was pulling a tag along so it was very difficult getting on and off the bike. And it killed my lower back. Not to mention the comfy seat was torn so it wasn't that comfy!!!! Ouch!!! We were there on a Tuesday so it wasn't that busy, and there was plenty of bikes available. On a good note we really like the shuttle drivers. They are very kind and helpful.

How long will it take me to ride it? Should I do the entire trail? Every question they answered and gave me all the info I needed to know this was the right place to go to. The check in process was quick and easy, try out a bike and grab a helmet. Then you're on the way up the mountain. The ride down is great. So many different people we on the trail. Young and old, families and single riders. The land is beautiful, we visited in mid-April, so the weather was awesome. If you're looking for a place to get a bike and catch a ride up the mountain. This is the place. Our driver was Charles, he made the trip up a blast. Thank you to him and the rest of the staff.

After discovering the Virginia…read moreCreeper Trail at that time, we promised that we'd return "someday" to bike at least part of the trail. This trail is a nationally-acclaimed Rails-to-Trails that extends for 34 miles and over 47 trestle bridges. While best known as a biking trail, it's actually a multi-use trail with bikers, walkers, stroller pushers, runners, equestrians, and more, especially near the access points. In the past, the trail started near Whitetop, went about 18 miles to the center point near Damascus, and ended in the charming town of Abingdon (or vice versa). Unfortunately, Damascus was hard hit by Hurricane Helene, and 18 trestle bridges were destroyed as well as many portions of the trail so the Whitetop to Damascus portion of the trail is currently closed. The 18-mile stretch from Damascus to Abington IS open. While there are bike rental companies, as well as shuttle services to take you to the trail's start, we brought our own bikes. We decided to ride the 8.5 mile segment from Abingdon (elevation: 2,020' to Alvarado Station (the old train stop at 1,750') and back. This "lower" section is considered a relatively easy to moderate stretch through rolling farmland and forests and over beautiful trestle bridges. As mentioned, our turning point was Alvarado Station, where we enjoyed our picnic lunch on a bench river-side. The stop also had drinks and snacks available for sale, a water refill station, restrooms, and a big, friendly dog eyeing our lunches! The trail is wide in most areas, and is very well-maintained. There are multiple access points with parking lots, information kiosks, regular mileage markers, benches, photo ops, and some restrooms. In a relatively recent development, e-bikes are now allowed on the trail. With its restaurants, breweries, shops, local theater, and more, make some extra time to visit Abingdon!
