There are some spots with full hookups and accommodations for long trailers (ours is 40'). The campground is adjacent to Stone Mountain State Park and he has provided a walkway and trail that ties into the state park trail system. We had booked a stay at the state park but their water system went down the day we showed up. The lady at the check in window directed us to Sandy Creek, and we're glad it worked out that way. We'll definitely stay here again.

We did end up needing more than anticipated as we had a minor first aid issue (local hospital was great BTW) and also because we were evacuated due to a hurricane the last day of our trip. We desperately had to get in touch with work and family so we were forced to drive out twenty minutes to get service. We did primitive tent camping. Electric and water were available if we ran lines/hose to other sites but we really weren't equipped for that distance. There were fire wood bundles for sale $5 each. A ring was provided with a grate for cooking. Our spot backed up to the creek. The sound of the running water was beautiful. It's also a short hike into Stone Mountain park. Very much suggested. Throughly enjoyed our time!

We proceeded on the quiet and peaceful Yadkin River with Tony covering safety guidelines and important information about the current conditions of the river. We started our birding while Tony watched the river alerting us to specific conditions, allowing us to focus more on birding. Tony also gave us information about locations popular with birds. During calm times, Tony gave us a history of the area and the Yadkin River. The highlight of the morning for all of us was watching the Belted Kingfishers interact with each other fishing along the way. The mid-morning break was a scene from a five-star dining experience. Ryann spent hours preparing a special breakfast for us. On a river island, she setup a table with a white linen tablecloth and food to satisfy any palette. After this filling rest stop, we continued on the river finding other birds including an Indigo Bunting. Again, Tony's support gave us the time to bird and soak in the beautiful surroundings. We finished our trip watching swallows dance around their mud homes. We are deeply grateful to Ryann and Tony for their efforts providing us with a memorable and magical trip. The owner is great and the host (Mike) is beyond amazing! We've been camping there for 8 years and love it more each time we go. The camper spots are very spacious and C1-C3 are completely shaded. C3 is the best by far! But you have to book early because C3 is very popular! Some things to know before you go! They do not have water hookups at the sites - you fill your camper tank with water at the office area. They have spots with electric hookups. They have a dump station where you can empty your tanks on your way out. This is a simple & beautiful campground. There are trails to walk/hike, mountain view to see, bathhouse with 3 bathroom/showers, and one with just a bathroom. This is by far the cleanest bathhouse I have ever seen. They show great attention to this campground and make sure all their campers are happy. You can also purchase wood at the office. There are a few t-shirts for sale at the office, as well. If you haven't checked it out, you are truly missing out! This is a great place with great people!

Campground at the top of the Virginia Creeper Trail. Tent and RV sites with hookups. Our site had…read moresewer hookup, but it was so far in the back that we would have needed three hoses to access it. There is absolutely no cell service, though they had free WiFi at the office and dining area. The owners also manage an on site cafe open Thursday through Sunday morning. We tried the Greek Pizza (though you need to preorder) on Saturday night and had biscuits and coffee for breakfast the next morning. Campers were recommending the scones, but they were already sold out by 9 am. Easy access to the trail, so no need to put your bikes on the rack to get to the White Top station. You just cross the street, turn left and hop on the path to the Virginia Creeper Trail. For those who do not want to cycle back up, there are several bike shuttle services to choose from. We stopped at Main Street Sweets and Eats in Damascus mid way through our ride. Don't miss the opportunity to grab a cold brew coffee, cookies and ice cream to get you through the second leg of the trail.

The showers are the best I have ever seen in a campground: hot water, lovely shower heads, beautiful and accurate amenities. We got breakfast both Saturday and Sunday. Homemade biscuits or bread, with sausage, or bacon, egg and cheese. They have artisan coffee! The sites have water and electricity. THERE is wifi at the office and relaxed indoor and outdoor seating there. The owners are delightful and knowledgeable about everything from gardening to music to outdoor adventure. This area needs the business with so much damage the Creeper Trail. These roads are great for biking. We saw very little traffic. We drove to Damascus, about 30 minutes, and took shuttle to Abingdon for a great ride back to Damascus. THERE is no food on that TRAIL and ingredients for fresh food was hard to find overall. Some light snacks at the Alvarez station which is about half way to Damascus. The Wicked Chicken in Damascus is great.

This 2 lane roadway stretches for 469 miles full of breathtaking views. Ever feel like you just want to get away from the hustle & bustle? Then head to one of several entry points and take a slow, relaxing drive through the Appalachian Highlands. The Parkway protects diverse plants and animals, as well as many historical landmarks. The BRP has something for everyone! There are plenty of trails to hike and many beautiful spots to take a picnic. Be sure to check the website for information on events or programs offered by the NPS. There are also several campgrounds to stay in. Fees are very cheap and filled on a first come, first served basis. Reservations are made online for up to 6 months in advance. Get outside! Get back to nature! Get to the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Cascade Falls is phenomenal with multi tiered waterfalls and trails to walk. There's Mose Cone Manor to visit and both the large, grand home and surrounding lands, with their horse and walking trails, are amazing. You'll find occasional tucked away eateries and restaurants, like The Bluff who have a variety of delicious food and drink. Lots of roadside overlooks where you can park, get out and read the information about that area and/or history of the Parkway plus to take lots of beautiful pictures of the mountains or foothills below. No visit to the northwest part of North Carolina is complete without a drive thru (at least part of) the Blue Ridge Parkway.

In fact, one time they took me to the top of White Top mountain but didn't pack the correct bike (I paid for a tag along). Thank goodness there was a man there who let me switch bikes with him so I could attach the tag along. This past visit, the 2 staff ignored me when I asked for a cruiser, (I have lower back issues). They gave me a man's mountain bike, but I was pulling a tag along so it was very difficult getting on and off the bike. And it killed my lower back. Not to mention the comfy seat was torn so it wasn't that comfy!!!! Ouch!!! We were there on a Tuesday so it wasn't that busy, and there was plenty of bikes available. On a good note we really like the shuttle drivers. They are very kind and helpful.
