There are some spots with full hookups and accommodations for long trailers (ours is 40'). The campground is adjacent to Stone Mountain State Park and he has provided a walkway and trail that ties into the state park trail system. We had booked a stay at the state park but their water system went down the day we showed up. The lady at the check in window directed us to Sandy Creek, and we're glad it worked out that way. We'll definitely stay here again.

We did end up needing more than anticipated as we had a minor first aid issue (local hospital was great BTW) and also because we were evacuated due to a hurricane the last day of our trip. We desperately had to get in touch with work and family so we were forced to drive out twenty minutes to get service. We did primitive tent camping. Electric and water were available if we ran lines/hose to other sites but we really weren't equipped for that distance. There were fire wood bundles for sale $5 each. A ring was provided with a grate for cooking. Our spot backed up to the creek. The sound of the running water was beautiful. It's also a short hike into Stone Mountain park. Very much suggested. Throughly enjoyed our time!

We wanted to spend time hiking in Grayson Highlands & were late to the game on Labor Day weekend & all the camping was booked. After some digging we found this place & it was about 25 mins from the park & an easy drive. If you have ATT there is no service. We lost it about 30 mins before arrival. Our GPS still worked & it was nice to unplug but just a heads up. The important highlights: -Bathrooms are clean & well maintained. -Showers are hot & we never had to wait. -Must pay in cash -Dog friendly. My dog could be offleash & run around. No major roads around & very laidback. -The sights are right by the water so you can hear the creek & the views are nice -each site has a picnic table & firepit. The campsites are pretty close which was hard when 3 carloads with about 15 people showed up & made camp at the site next door. They weren't particularly cognizant of their noise levels & we couldn't sleep until around 11 when I finally went out to ask them to please keep it down. They only stayed one night & that's just par for the course sometimes with camping. The next night was much quieter & we slept great. All in all a great campground. An hourish from Boone & Blowing Rock. Bring supplies in as there aren't any major grocery stores around. Would stay there again if we were in the area.

WiFi was available and most sites are open to the sky for on air channels. There's no off leash dog park, cable, pool or playground but there's plenty of space to walk the dogs and plenty to see around the area. Water pressure seemed a little low so we didn't use a pressure regulator. Laundry room was super clean. It's $1 each to wash and dry and it's on the honor system so you deposit money into a box on the wall. Bathrooms and showers were also super clean. As full-timers, we were quite impressed with this lovely park. It's apparent that the owner takes a lot of pride in this park and manages it well. It's a nice quiet campground perfect for decompressing and getting away for awhile. Owner is on the premises, available and has plans for future improvements. This is truly a gem that we plan to return to in the future.

Ten years ago we bought our diesel pusher motor home and my wife searched Google for "big rig friendly campgrounds"...up popped Cool Breeze Campground in Galax, VA. Now we come here as often as we can and every time we come here we don't want to leave so we stay and stay. We got here July 9th this time to be near our new baby grand daughter in Bluefield and we'll stay this time until August 26th when we just have to leave! This campground is extremely well designed and the flat sites have hard packed gravel and are well groomed. The bath house is extremely clean. The owner is friendly and enjoys telling his campers about local attractions and events. ENJOY!!!

The park is pretty remote, with only occasional cell service (a good thing or a bad thing depending…read moreon one's needs). The parking really close to the mountain is handicap only, so the intention is for most people to walk a 4.5 mile loop that goes around the mountain and then up it on the way back. It is a substantial climb, both down into a gully with an impressive waterfall and up the mountain itself. The rock does offer wide-spanning views. The infrastructure was not in ideal shape at the time of my visit, with some water fountains down and other limitations in amenities. I also found the trail setup a bit confusing as following marks led me once to a dead end and in another case, I had to hike on a gravel road a bit to get back to the trail and that wasn't marked clearly as the right way to go. While these things could be improved, the park is an excellent resource and as is standard practice in NC (but not in SC or VA), is free to enter.

The main park office lies in a historic hamlet surrounded by farms. A parking charge applied, and if you parked somewhere else along the extensive trail perhaps you could get by without it, but the sights were certainly well worth seeing. I made it maybe a mile down the trail to a riverbend overlooked by a bluff ideally suited for sunsets, but there was a lot more to explore. Some boating was available, and a horse seemed interested to meet me as I departed.

We stayed several weeks back during a holiday weekend (towards the end) all camp spots on the app were booked or closed due to dead trees and storms. We drove in and found a spot on the water side.. I'm impressed with these camping areas friendly folks and quiet!!!! Unbelievably quiet! Than once I realized you can walk around the WHOLE lake!! How cool is that! Just an awesome place! And we live here!!! I've drove by. I've drove through. I've dropped the kids for events here. But I've never experienced the park myself! I'm now hooked! You can be there and not really understand that there quite possibly is 1000's of people around you.. not really noticeable.. pretty awesome.. there's places to go and not far from you where there will be nobody! The highlight is the Tanawha Trail that runs 13.5 miles and includes Grandfather Mountain. There are canoes available for rental and the lake is stocked with fish. After a long day of searching for a campground that met our needs, we found it!…read more We are tent campers so finding a place where you are not on top of each other and don't have to hike a mile into the woods isn't easy. There are a few tent areas and ours was 4 spots, however, they could've put in about 20, so yes, they are huge! We were able to sprawl out and have all the space we could ever need. This campground is on 30 acres. It has a pool, bathhouse, beach volleyball, playground, sandbox, 2 pavilions, and a small farm. The farm has a bunny, 2 miniature horses, a full-sized horse, goats, and 2 pigs. The owners live on the property and are very accessible and friendly. We needed wood for our fire and they have it for sale. They even deliver it to your site. The price is right (compared to Walmart or Lowes where the bundles of wood are tiny and burn so quick that you run thru $100 in a night) Our $20 in wood lasted for 1.5 days, which is good since we like fire! The site was super quiet and it was like a little oasis. Where we were was right by the river, so you can hear the babbling, quite peaceful! We had a bunch of trees that kept the campsite cool during the day. There are some tent spots in the middle of the camper areas, but luckily they put us away from everything! There is another tent area that sits across the brook (cute little bridge to get to that side) and I couldn't count how many spots could go into that area, it's wide open! There will be another trip planned!
