Took my family to this 120 year old working family farm in the Dundas area Saturday. This was the last October weekend before Hallowe'en so the farm itself closes today, October 30th at 5:00 pm. But I want to encourage you to drive down there anyway if you're at all tempted by fresh baked pies, cookies, Canadian butter tarts, and locally raised meats and produce. Their pies are not cheap, starting at $15.99, but everyone agrees they're delicious & top quality. The bakery & farm market is open from Good Friday to December 31 each year. The beautiful farm property itself, which looks directly over the Niagara Escarpment into the Dundas Valley, has a small waterfall with scenic lookout. It is a popular wedding and business retreat venue for locals in the Hamilton area from May to October. Come October, it's THE place to go for families with a Pumpkin Patch attraction and play area for all ages every weekend till Hallowe'en. Pick your own Pumpkin, hay wagon rides over the edge of the Niagara Escarpment, corn maze, rubber duckies race with old water pumps, haunted house and kid's Pumpkin story film, small petting zoo, playgrounds, riding trikes, scale model farm equipment for kids to play with in outdoor sand box, mini golf, beach volleyball, etc. Hot dogs, sausages on a bun, drinks, cookies, apple dumplings with warm caramel sauce, other treats available on site. Adult admission, $12.00 each for Pumpkin Patch all day on October weekends. Pick your own or buy your own Pumpkin is extra.
I took my family there on Saturday to enjoy a relatively warm though windy day out on the farm. My two girls are adult and teen, too old for all the little kid attractions, but certainly able to enjoy the hay wagon rides, the trip down to the beautiful waterfall lookout, seeing the chickens, rabbits, goats, sheep and young calf, and most of all the food!! The warm caramel sauced apple dumplings! The fresh butter tarts! The frosted pumpkin cookies! The key lime pie and the strawberry rhubarb pie I took home from the bakery and market! Even the sausage on a bun we ate in the outdoor barn was well above average in quality. So I encourage Yelpers to continue to make the trip to the farm's bakery and market between now and Christmas. You can also order food from them between Christmas and December 31st. And keep the farm in mind for next spring. They re-open on Good Friday! read more
