I flew into Michigan from Chicago desperate to get in last minute for a wash and blow dry. Dy n fly not only squeezed in my last minute request but also gave me the best blow out I've ever gotten. Mounife was my stylist and she was incredible. I literally wanted to take her back to Chicago with me. I walked in with a head of the dirtiest hair and she gave me the absolute best scalp scrub and made sure all the gunk was cleaned out. I counted and she washed my hair FOUR times! Then she gave me the cutest round brush blow out- all in less than 30 minutes. I have very course, frizzy Indian hair and she left no dents at all- I don't think any stylist has ever been able to successfully get those front pieces tamed with a blow dry. Could not recommend this place and specifically Mounife enough- thank you for the incredible wash and blow dry!!!! read more

I sat on this for a bit, because I'm not trying to mess w/ anyone's money. But...I don't know. People are also spending their hard-earned money here, so I'll just keep it simple, and also let the pics speak: 1. I asked for balayage on previously highlighted hair. I showed reference photos and said I'm fine with whatever my hair lifts to (I'm not expecting them to get as light as the pics.) They said they can do it, no problem. I'm on the docket for a Tye Dye and a Take Root. 2. After everything's washed out, they dry a section in front for me to see. Looks okay. I was the last customer of the day, so I go home to blow-dry so they can close. Only then do I realize that there is no blend at all, and there's a band around my head, like it's been growing out for months. My grays are also still showing, which should have been covered by the Take Root. 3. They get me in for a complimentary re-do. I was told that they didn't "think anything was wrong with it" (which was infuriating...I mean, y'all can see the pics.) They say they'll bring the root color down to blend it. I hear that they didn't actually do a Take Root last time (even though they charged for it...they did do a shadow or a color smudge? Maybe it costs the same.) I was told that this time, the grays will be covered. 4. I blow-dry my hair there, and see that there is a dark dye drip right in the front section of my hair. I asked for them to fix; they rubbed bleach in there immediately, and said the dark spot would wash out. It did not wash out. Well...at least my grays are now covered. I give up and leave. This is just too much. 5. I get home and see even more uneven spots on my hair. The stark band remains on some parts of the outer hair and much of the inner hair. 6. I finally have to go to another stylist to get it fixed, and lament the amount of time and emotional energy spent on this that I really did not have. First time getting hair done in 8 months, and sorely needed a pick-me-up, but got this instead. It's not even about the $ (which was $169 before tip). I'm not interested in a refund, since they spent time & product on this.) Some acknowledgment & empathy would have gone a long way. There are lots of rave reviews about this place, especially if you're looking for all-over color or just root touch-ups. If you're gonna try it out, I'd stay away from the balayage/Tye-Dye. I DO NOT RECOMMEND NINA! I have been coming here since it first opened years ago & have always had good service with very nice people! Today I was left shocked & dumbfounded!! It makes me want to rethink about having my color done here! I had root color & 7 highlights & as Nina was barely touching my hair to shampoo it, she shut off the water & it was totally soapy so I asked if she could redo it. I also wanted her to rewash & rinse my hair because all the other people would do an amazing job scrubbing my scalp & rinsing very thoroughly. As I'm sitting at the sing with a wet towel & the cape still snapped on, Nina walked away without saying another word. OK..... this is odd but she never came back to me. I'm sitting at the sink with dripping wet hair (mind you I'm using a walker because I can't stand on my R knee) & had to ask Alina the receptionist to please get me a dry towel & take my cape off! She was nice enough to do so plus she added some mousse to my hair! I asked where did Nina go & was told she went to wash out her bowls. WTF!! She finally comes out, ignores me completely as I'm sitting there quite shocked, & didn't even look my way!! I've been to Dye and Dash 3 times now, for 3 different things. This time, I had a lot of gray and I wanted a new look. I showed the stylist a picture of what I wanted -- a look called Burnt Sienna that I'd seen on Facebook. The stylist assured me that she could do it -- it was basically auburn, light brown, blonde and subtle purple highlights on a brown base. The stylist said she thought I didn't need a full head of highlights, and I told her I trusted her but I wanted it to look like the picture. When it was done (about an hour and a half, which was a lot faster than I'd thought it would be), it looked nice, but it wasn't at all like the picture, and I told her that. So, she put in some more of the reddish and purple highlights. It's better, and it does look nice, but still not at all like the picture I showed her. I think it's probably the same colors, but it's more subtle than the chunks in the picture. Still, I'm giving them 4 stars because their service is good, the prices are reasonable and, although it wasn't exactly what I wanted, it does look nice. read more

You leave and think 'Its close to what I want I just wish it was MORE blonde' Or 'I wish it was lighter around my face.' 'It is a bit too gold/orange... I'll see if next she can change that.' Etc. None of this happened w/ Diana. She got the color right and the weave right (not too tiny... but not big 90's stripes). I wanted to keep some definition and she really got the overall amount of blonde right. She also applied the bleach very close to the root so it will last a long time. I didn't even know this type of thing existed but I was either having all day appointments with my hairdresser (more like his assistant) or struggling to do my roots myself. This is the perfect solution! I got a root touch up and blow dry with Diane in 1 hour. I didn't even know what to do with myself afterwards! I have a full head of highlights from my last 4 hour appointment with my hairdresser and I just wanted my roots to blend with no obvious "line". She nailed it! This place is owned by the owners of 6 Salon and the girls were all so nice and professional. One thing I did not know going in is that there is a DIY blow dry bar so if you don't want to pay additional for the blow dry, you can just do it yourself. That means I pay $35 to get my root touch up in a 1/2 hour, blow dry quickly and on with my day! Bravo on this concept. The color product they use is by TGIF, all professional grade. I will be back! Pros: Quick, clean, friendly. I've never waited more than a few minutes before my appt. Great prices for roots or whole head colored. Customer dries his/her own hair after color is done. Cons: Highlights don't seem to be at a good discount. After spending a certain amount of money, you get a free 15.00 conditioner. It seemed to be nothing more than a cream rinse. It happened so fast, I thought I was still getting my hair washed. The person beside me was also getting one, but more time and care was given (I could hear her talking to the customer about it and wished she was doing mine). It's like the stars all lined up for me to come here and meet Tara. SERIOUSLY. My hair: long (mid-back), lots of it, 5" of roots, 3" of some brown dye, and the rest of my hair was highlighted...over dyed hair. -_- I apologized for the ratchet hair, showed Tara a pic of what I wanted and also let her know that I needed all over color for an event in 2 months and had a schedule that made it near impossible for me to come in (i.e. I wasn't coming back to get it re-dyed). She showed me some swatches of what she was thinking, and off we went! She got started with my roots, turned that heating orb thing on, did the rest of my color, turned that heating orb thing back on, washed it out (with a good head massage), and blow dried a 3" section of hair for me to get a feel for the color. I LOVE my hair so far, and apparently so do my friends. The color is rich and deep, multidimensional, "subtle but obvious" (my exact request), AND my ratchet hair is one color again!!! Oh yeah and for $50, I feel like I'm robbing the place. (Note: all over color starts at $40. I always exceed the "starts at" price, so I was surprised it was only by $10.) The only cons I can think of are: -there's still hair dye on my scalp. It's itchy and driving me crazy lol. -I'm not a fan of the heating orb things, maybe bc I've never had a hairstylist put me under direct heat with color on my head You really can't beat the price and the quality/service that Tara provides. Went in for my second visit today and it was a pretty different experience from the first. And it's all thanks to Tara! My first visit (about one month ago) was just okay. I showed the stylist a picture of what I wanted and I think (hope) she tried her best. I wish she communicated with me from the beginning how true to color the final result would be realistically. I have virgin black hair and I knew it'd be a challenge. But... it wasn't until the very end after washing out the dye that she told me that it'll "be a process" to get to the shade I wanted. The top of my hair near the roots came out to a nice brown/red color, but the ends of my hair still looked black. Also, I wish she had warned me (especially as a first timer) that the dye would continue to wash out in the shower in the next coming weeks (aka not to use white towels!). Tara was amazing today!!! I told her that I came to get my roots done but was also hoping to go a shade lighter all over. She suggested putting in some soft highlights towards the ends of my hair since it didn't come out as light as my roots the first time, and to give my hair color more dimension. Such a good call! It looks so natural and like it was brushed on. I'd HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting the conditioning treatment ($15) because it leaves my hair feeling SO SOFT! And plus, it'll help lock-in the color :) read more

I went into dynfly and i had an appointment with V for a balayage hair dye. When i got there V explained that it would be $120 for what i wanted i told her i dont have that much money( as i am 16 and dont have a job. I saved my money for 6 months to do this and i am extremely disappointed!) so she said she could do a full head of highlights for $65 and add toner for $20 if needed. When she said "Full head of highlights" i was expecting Cali Cali Blonde type of hair dye as my moms coworker goes to V to get Cali Cali and only pays $65 for a FULL HEAD of hair. Her hair is much longer than mine too. My hair is above my shoulders. When i checked out it was $90 and my hair was barley different. I came in with the intention of a dramatic change and received a very very subtle difference. I am very upset that i wasted my money here to get something no where close to what i asked for.. read more

Only come if you have a pixie cut!!! My stylist was very nice throughout the whole experience but when I asked for a ashy blonde balyage, I ended up with the same gold hair I walked in with but with a few silver highlights. And even those streaks she did washed out within the week. (They offer a "sweet treat" which probably locks in the color, but it is an extra $15) she kept telling me how my hair was perfect for coloring since she had to do no prep, because it was already a blonde that would be easy to color over, but ended up charging me $80!! Originally she said $90 but then she brought it down to 80 after I questioned her. I had walked in there thinking it would be no more than 30 or 40 since I asked for a balyage and a full head of color is 40. She then said she charged me more because I have long hair?! It is shoulder length! And also she did not have to do any prep and it did not turn out anything like the photo I showed her, at the end she told me to make another appointment so she could make it how I wanted it and admitted it didn't look right. I have gone here for a few years off and on for root coverage. I show up today and am told they had a price increase, ok how much, $10. When I started going here I believe it was $30, then increased to $35, then increased to $39 and now $49. The service has not changed, I imagine the dye has increased but I should have been notified before I arrived for the appointment or they should have supplied the service at the previous rate and notified me next time this will be the cost. They are trying to sell a membership which is what they offered me. I was surprised by the increase and opted not to stay for the appointment. I received a call two days ago to reschedule my appointment which we did they could have made me aware of the price increase then. I feel bad that Diana ended up having an open spot she is really a great colorist, but I could not get onboard with such a large increase. read more

I have been a happy customer for the past 2 years! I pay 2/3 of the cost here for what I was paying at my old salon and I get complimented all the time on the color! I recommend Tara for balayage! She's very personable and does a great job! When a salon does color all day every day you end up with color experts! The salon is clean and modern. I love that you can book online and usually I can get in last minute. When I need to get a root touch up, it's about $30 and a half hour to stretch my color a bit longer! The concept of the diy dry bar was a bit different to get used to, but it saves money and doesn't bother me at all! read more

I saw an ad on Facebook for Dye and Dash and the concept sounded pretty cool. I get busy with work, so scheduling a whole day around a hair appointment doesn't work well for me. I made an appointment about 40 minutes before I went in using their app - SO easy by the way, love that. I was a little skeptical at first when I walked in, not a lot of people in there. I'm use to my regular salon where there's a ton of people in chairs and multiple waiting. Regardless, I got right in and was more than pleased with my hair! I figure everyone just hasn't found out about the secret yet. All and all - great job on hair coloring, saved my bathroom from me trying to do it myself (and my hair for that matter), and I didn't go broke over it. Very pleased! Also as mentioned for the pricey add-on's below. Nothing of the sort was offered to me, but I also did not get highlights. They pretty simply lay out everything price wise on their app. Only thing I would say was a little eh - I sat right by the receptionist who was quite complain-y about some of the customers that were calling. As a preface...if colorist ever told me they didn't know how to achieve what I was asking for, I would 1000% be ok with it. The problem is that this experience started with a long, open conversation about what I wanted. The photo from Pinterest is what I used as a reference for the color brown I wanted. I was formerly blonde and knew that going brunette meant some reddish tones may pick up, but I asked over and over to avoid red as much as possible because I look better with ashy tones. After her assuring me that my hair would not have ANY red tones in it, it turned out like a strawberry blonde mess. I don't know how natural brown could translate to a pink color, but this leads me to believe they don't know what they are doing there. I was told I could come in the next day to get it fixed but after the first experience, I really didn't want them touching my hair. I came in expecting to achieve a nice balayage look, my hair is pretty dark about a "3" and very long; almost to my waist. I wanted the color to be subtle and blend well. The hairdresser showed me swatches of how my hair would look and it looked okay to me so she started the process. I wasn't too concerned about anything until she starts putting foils with bleach on my bangs?! UM NO. First of all, my hair is fragile in the front where my bangs are from using heat. I started to panic but I figured I would trust her since shes supposed to know what shes doing. While the color was processing I looked down and my hair looked ORANGE. I really started to worry at this point because my hair is everything to me and I am terrified of brassy orange tones in my hair. She took me to go wash my hair out and she said she applied a toner so I figured the color would turn out a light brown color. Boy was I wrong....as she started to blow dry my hair I was having a mini panic attack as the color was looking extremely orange and very blonde on my bangs. Of course there are no mirrors around so I had to wait until she was done blowdrying to see what this could possibly look like with my DARK roots. I wanted to cry when she took me to the mirror... my beautiful long dark hair was suddenly transformed to an extremely messed up color. I wish I had taken a picture but I was mortified. The color went from black straight to orange with barely any blending or dimension.. then a small front piece of my hair was blonde?!!!! When I had my hair in a pony tail it looked like a skunk tail. I went home and tried to style my hair myself to see if it was possible to look good and I kept getting more mad, I called them up and they told me to come in and they could fix it. I was so outraged that I just wanted my money back. So I went back up there and the manager sat down to fix my hair personally, I told him just dye it back to the way it was before and I want my money back. He proceeded to tell me that he could fix it with some lowlights but it would still look brassy (really?!) and he could only give me 40 dollars back. I refused and told him to make my hair dark again. So I basically paid $100 dollars for my hair to be very damaged and look exactly the same. But the manager did give me a full refund, which is the only thing I am happy about. read more
