The wife was hungry on our way back to Michigan from visiting family at Christmas. We pulled off 55 looking to get some food and head back out on the road. We saw a handful of fast food joints and were going to settle on one before I said, "hey, let's check this place out and just take a little break from driving." We stopped in Dwight Pizza and were pleasantly surprised. The food: The Italian beef/sausage combo was out of this world. The sausage was packed with flavor and the Italian beef was delicious. Everything was even better being dipped in au jus. We also split a pizza that came piping hot and loaded with cheese and toppings. The atmosphere: The atmosphere is a no frills diner small town diner feel, but a great place to stop for lunch or dinner with kids. AND I got to watch The Godfather during lunch! :) I loved seeing the owner's memorabilia from his son's successes over the years. Undoubtedly a VERY proud father and it's touches like that, which make family owned/small town places special. The owner: He didn't say he was the owner, but as a business owner, myself, you can tell. He was awesome. Very friendly and it didn't feel like you were stopping by his restaurant, but stopping by his home for a home cooked dinner. He started by asking us if we wanted to have the best Italian beef sandwich or best pizza we'd ever had, so we naturally said, "Both!" We will definitely make a point to stop in on our trips back to Michigan. Three Floyds and Schoops are our "heading down" stops and Dwight Pizza will be our "heading up" stop. read more

Just stopped through to scratch that insatiable pizza crave; grabbed a veggie pizza on the go. The place was quiet and clean at 6pm on a Monday. The food came out fast as it could, and good as could be. Held true to SOME standards of the "Chicago Style" veggie pizza. Now I know where to stop when cruising up or down I-55. Don't judge a book or restaurant by its cover! A little quaint and simple interior with a small dining room but, can accommodate a small to medium group. It seems it's more of a counter service/take out spot and the waitress, I'm guessing is the daughter, and maybe a first job. She is pleasant, and smiles. She knocks out the basics but, not the best to I Dulles in explaining the menu to someone new. The garlic bread seemed to be just saturated in butter and I wouldn't recommend. The deep-dish pizza tho..... this is the show stopper! I'm a Giordannos or Lou's kinda guy when it comes to deep dish. This doesn't beat theirs but it's a contender. I went simple with pepperoni & sausage. All in all, I would revisit this spot and explore other options. Been stopping there for years while commuting to and from Chicago from Peoria area and it's a gem. Their pizza is outstanding as well. Hope they never change what they are doing. This place is a joke of a pizza place. The owner can't even cook a pizza right, or even cut a calzone. They have no respect for their customers. If they mess up your order and they do nothing but blame it on you, and try to turn it so they are not in the wrong. We were traveling and wanted a Chicago-style pizza, so we planned our day trip around eating at Dwight pizza. We had a very cheerful, efficient waiter. My husband and I ordered the Italian beef deep dish 10 inch. We had plenty for leftovers. It was a delicious new taste for us. Our friends got the meat lovers special. They said it was also great. They got the 8 inch and took one piece home. Our friend also go a couple beers. They carry Pepsi products. It was a great end to a great day. This pizza place is now under new ownership. Now called Dwight Pizza and more. My first experience with them did not go as well as I had expected. The delivery order was messed up twice missing half the order and took twice as long to receive our correct order. The prices have gone up dramatically which is why we thought our complete order was paid for the first time. The owner did make it right. My boyfriend loved the meat lovers pizza! There was plenty leftover too! I'm used to Gino's east deep dish so the crust seemed a little plain to me-but it was still pretty good! The manager John was really nice and even gave us a sample of the Italian beef! OH MY GOSH it was delicious!! Has a little kick to it. Was told this was great pizza, I wanted to give it a try, as I was getting tired of eating Geo's Pizza. I ordered a Chicago Deep dish and a 16" thin crust, the crust was kind of burned in a few spots (not that big of a deal) on both pizzas, the sausage on both pizzas was "gristley" and the pepperoni was "tasteless" I thought it was salami by it's taste. Chicago style Deep dish is supposed to have the toppings at the bottom covered with cheese, then topped off with sauce. My Chicago style deep dish was made with sauce on the crust, the toppings on top of that, then cheese, and a very sparse (almost sprayed on look) amount of sauce on top. The thin crust was like eating cardboard, a frozen Jacks or tombstone would have been better and more filling, not to mention the fact both pizzas were loaded with so mush sodium, I (we) got a headache, muscle cramps, and our blood pressures must have went up by 30%. I think we would have gotten less sodium intake if we ate a bowl of water softener tablets. I was given a 30-35 minutes delivery window and it took over an hour to receive these two nasty pizzas. It was not worth the $50 (plus a $5 drivers tip) for 2 salty, nasty pizzas. read more

The bread was perfect, the sausage one of the best I've ever had, and the beef, melted mozzarella, and giardiniera were high quality. Bunkered down at the Love's for the night and decided to try the pizza here. We ordered a large ultimate for delivery. Yup, they delivered to the truck! It was full of toppings and the crust held up well. I seriously could only eat a slice and a half. I was stuffed!! It's full of meat and cheesy goodness. The pizza lasted about two and a half days for both me and my hubby, eating for the two meals we eat per day. It was good reheated and a pizza to surely eat with a knife and fork! As former Chicagoans we were sceptical but it smelled good and they were super nice and accommodating. When they learned we had a 45 minute drive to take the food home they wrapped everything individually so it wasn't soggy and we could put it all together when we got home. Now for the food....it was fantastic and delicious and this is from people who are hard to please Chicago itialian beef regulars.
