I've bought logs for a few years from this family run business. I love how helpful & friendly they are. They load the firewood into your car/truck/trailer. This last time however I got very green wood when I asked for seasoned post oak - had a very noxious smell when standing over the BBQ pit and burned my eyes tremendously. This is by far the best place I've ever gotten firewood. They have tons of good dried oak not to mention hickory, mesquite and pecan. It works out to be about $1 per piece for oak for a quarter cord. That's all that would fit in the trunk of my car. I'm sure it gets cheaper the more you buy. The same nice lady that came out to meet me last year met me again this year. Be advised, they have their own definition of a cord of wood that favors the seller. As we all know (and state law mandates): A full cord is stacked 4' high, 4' wide and 8' long. A half cord is stacked 4' high, 2' wide and 8' long. At Dougherty's: A half cord is stacked 4' high, 16" wide and 8' long. So you get 25% less. read more

However, this is one of those places where some folks may choose to patronize or not patronize for other reasons - I won't purchase there again. Very nice folks own/run this little firewood yard. I wish they would sell wood based on the normally accepted terms. I purchased 4' x 4' x 1.5'. This was sold as 1/4 cord. It isn't!!!!! Firewood is a fuel. Oil is sold by the barrel, electricity by the kilowatt...wood by the cord. Would you give 5 stars to the gas station if they sold you 96 ounces as a gallon? It gives you a great economic advantage to sell wood as a cord when it really isn't. read more

This place has a good selection of firewood: oak, mesquite and even pinon. I've found it worth the drive to Oak Hill. I generally only buy a bag or two of the pinon wood - it's always been reasonably priced and is good, dry wood for my fireplace. I understand that the price for a cord of wood, delivered, is a bit pricey but these guys seems to have the quality. Just picked up 1/4 cord of oak. The lady there helped me load the truck and even threw about 10 pieces of mesquite in for free. She was very personable and chatted the entire (short) time I was there. Convenient to my location in South Austin. $20-40 less for the amount of wood that I got. I will buy from them again.. Yes, the length of the wood is 18-20 inches, but if you don't have a custom built fireplace, anything bigger will not fit. In fact, everything that I saw on the internet and craigslist was 16-18 inches long, but a few said that they would cut it longer if you wanted. read more
