Cherry pie brought up from the Boone location for an order.

What a great little place! As soon as you walk in, all of the staff that are available, turn their attention to you with a big smile and greet you warmly. It smells absolutely delicious in there and the endless variety that they offer is fantastic. Not only are there donuts and pastries, they have pies and do lunch as well. They also have coffee and tea, and the inside of this little bakery is so quaint and personable. This location is amazing and we highly recommend it.

I just (actually) ate a cookie from this store and they were almost too beautiful and perfect to eat! Tasty as well. While I didn't go to the store to get these, I've been in there before. They have way too many goodies to tempt me. See pic. I've also recently had their regular cookies. Those are also very good, though not decorated. MarcyDiner'sTantrumScale 5/5- NoScreamingKids. Seriously, as good as it gets. This wonderful Ames bakery has exceptional customer service and has lots of parking, but come here without concern about calories or Weight Watchers points and you'll have an incredible experience. I LOVE the Dutch letters, and if you want, get it chocolate-tipped. Oh my. Such a unique, yummy treat. They also have great pastries, donuts, sandwiches, and coffee cake, but I go for their Dutch letters and they are great. You must visit if you're in Ames, but please leave me at least one Dutch letter. Please?

Happy to support this cute little bakery. If you're in Ames/Boone but never eaten at this place, you better do. They bake everything fresh(I've heard their day starts way early in the morning) and it's so nice to know that you get to support a local business. I've tried their dutch letters, windmill pastry and Dutch apple bread and they're all yum. Sandwiches are good too. Located in a busy street, this place is almost always full. Staff is friendly and respectful, greeting everyone with a smile(THEY WEAR MASKS!) Free parking with ample spots are available.

Dutch letter--less almond paste than Pella

Great little place! We had apple fritters, a biscuit sandwich & took a Dutch letter, loaf of apple bread, donut holes, & a strawberry cream cheese tart to go. Everything was tasty! The bread had a nice smooth texture. The Dutch letter has less almond paste than Pella bakeries. As a Central College grad, I do have to say this place is equally tasty as J in Pella! Prices are more reasonable here! Plus, you have places to sit & enjoy!

The Dutch Oven Bakery is a hidden gem! A great stop for a DELICIOUS homemade pastry & a cup of coffee. The employees are super friendly & the pastries are pretty affordable! Highly recommend the pinwheel pastries & cinnamon rolls!

If you grew up in the area you drove to Boone as a special treat to eat/shop at this bakery. This is their Ames location, complete with a checkers/chess dining table. Tucked back behind two strip malls, off Duff Ave just south of the railroad tracks on the west side. Known for its Dutch bakery items, this restaurant also features homemade deli items, various Kosher breads, canned meats, and more. In the fall, you can try Denny's chili (the owner's closely guarded secret recipe). Dutch letters are a favorite but the breads, cookies, and other bakery items are made fresh daily and brought over from Boone in time for the 6 am breakfast crowd. They close at 5 pm. Items are priced with a 4 percent cash discount; using a credit card will add to the cost. Most deli baskets cost about $6.69. You can even get a grilled cheese or Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich. All are good, served with chips, pickle, and a homemade cookie.

We had the Baja Shrimp Taco special last Wed and restaurant week started so we had the entire Thai tasting menu on Friday. It was fabulous - please check it out. It is Midwest hot, not Thai hot. Staff is always great. We almost always end with carrot cake - I had ZoeBakes carrot cake in the Twin Cities and it was not anywhere close to as tasty as The Cafe's version. I would agree with some other posts that the lighting in some areas makes it very hard to read the menus or see your food. Updated lighting would be helpful. We try to come early and get a spot near the windows so that we can see better.

Disappointed to say the least, I came in the back door not realized there was a correct door and was rudely cut off by other patrons at the front desk. I had to wait several minutes to be waited on and the place had plenty of spots. Maybe because I was a party of 1... they didn't seem to care. After I shared what drink I wanted, I learned they were out... fine no problem. I asked about the Thai specials, the waitress was clueless. I had to ask for the restaurant week menu and ask about the specials. She said they looked good but couldn't describe them and hasn't tasted them. I got the salad on special, but get this... they were out of the main restaurant week special... such a let down. The ambiance was mixed, one corner was a cute date night the other corner was crying children. All dimly lit and outdated decor. The whole experience was off, I ended up leaving after my one drink and salad. I hope to give this place a second chance sometime but hope they aren't out of dishes and I can get a trained server. Maybe another night for sure!

Most everything to drink is bottled except for coffee and free water. Everyone who works there is very knowledgeable about gluten allergies. I have a gluten and dairy allergy. I had a denver omelet without cheese. It is a shared kitchen but they specifically clean everything before making anything when someone tells them its a food allergy. If you call ahead they can make any of their baked goods gluten free. I did not because my family decided to try this on a whim but I was able to have gluten free toast, frosted sugar cookies, and a brown butter chocolate chip cookies. The toast was actually toasted and crunchy on the outside while soft in the middle. Will be eating here again.

The overall vibe of the place is calming, which helps me in these hectic times. Private parking lot, great layout, helpful staff who know their store. Excellent produce. I try to stop here every time that I am in Ames, as I find items that I cannot get elsewhere, and they add to my quality of life. Some interesting food options always intrigue me too!

I don't do much grocery shopping there but usually go for the food lol. It really is a little hidden gem! Ended up becoming a member a few years ago because of how much I love their hot bar! Other part I love, they have some of the most amazing bread made in shop, not always lucky enough to get some but when I do, it has to be best bread around!
