Expert Air A/C and Heating

Expert Air A/C took over Dusty's Air Conditioning Service when Dusty retired. We had used Dusty's…read morefor a decade. I was at a loss to know where to turn. But Expert is as reliable and responsible as Dusty's. They honor the warranty from the new unit we bought from Dusty. They come out promptly, are good at diagnosing problems and getting your unit up and cooling again quickly and without unnecessary drama. Michael, one of the A/C techs, has taken care of us for years. I knew his wife and she called him at the first sign of a problem. He is friendly and excellent at what he does. He helped us choose a larger, 2-stages unit with dehumidifier when we saw or unit was underserved. We have Bern very happy with it, ad MYB budge loves it cold, but the dehumidifier keeps it from feeling damp and uncomfortable. We consider Michael like one off the family! He still works there, but at Expert. Other techs have also come out and done a great job, as well. In New Orleans, we had a number of adequate and terrible companies, but on the Northshore, we only ever needed one. I can't say enough about this company!

I highly recommend Expert for all your AC & Heating sales and service. Mark B. Mandeville, La.

DoneRite HVAC - Gridpoint

We hired DoneRite HVAC to replace our 17 year old HVAC system and we couldn't be happier. This is…read moresuch a friendly family run business. Garrett from DoneRite promptly came out to check our unit, answered all of our questions, and the very next day we received the quote for the work to be done along with 4 possible HVAC systems in different price ranges to consider. Garrett was very concerned about our comfort while we waited for the new unit to be shipped. The old unit was leaking freon and the temperature in the house was staying around 87 degrees. He made an extra trip out to add some freon to keep us comfortable until the new system arrived, and called several times during this period to make sure we were okay. On installation day, Garrett and his crew did a very thorough job. It was obvious that they wanted to make certain that everything was working perfectly before they left. All of the employees that we interacted with were very nice, and concerned about us. They are an honest, responsive, meticulous, knowledgeable, professional business, and we felt that their prices were very reasonable. We will not hesitate to call them in the future when we need A/C or heating work done.

One STAR because ZERO is not an option. I am a property manager for a home where DoneRite HVAC…read moreinstalled a new Daikin central system. From the beginning, the system was shutting itself down for no apparent reason. DoneRite claimed that changing out the attic duct system would resolve the issue, so $4500 was spent doing that with no improvement whatsoever from this unnecessary expense. After this, DoneRite told me that it must be an electrical issue in the home. I had an electrician come out to inspect the wiring and no issues were found that could cause this. Additionally, I had the power company come out to inspect their connection. No issues found. During the entire process, DoneRite has been unresponsive to texts and phone calls. I haven't been able to get a person to answer the phone in their office for weeks. At one point, the owner of the company did finally return a call and told me he would try one thing and failing that working he would make a warranty claim on our behalf. Since that time, he hasn't returned a call, letter or email (it's been weeks) We have been ghosted by them totally. Meanwhile, we have 10 years left on our vaunted 12 year warranty, but DoneRite won't assist us in resolving this matter through our warranty. The catch 22 is that Daikin requires an authorized dealer to make a claim. DoneRite won't help and other companies are reluctant to take on this type of system and/or take on a warranty claim for a system they didn't install or service. Meanwhile this system is now shutting down daily and must be reset daily in order to work.

When she did, it was discovered that our ac unit for our side was wired to her side. Therefore, we spent 3 days in july with no air. Paid the $75 for the service call and was told they would do nothing. Called the office several times for a week. Josh ( or some guy with a J name) didn't call me back for a week. When, he did he said it's the problem of the electrician and talked a lot of mumbo jumbo about intakes and outtakes seemingly talking over my head. They installed them both!! There was never a hired electrical person to have it installed. They did it all. And they didn't do it right. Today, I am paying $275 to an electrician to correct their half ass work. One Air is short sighted in realizing, I am closer to buying new units than not. I will not be using them in the future for any of my properties.

A WEEK LATER... a "manager" showed up to check on the work, and said some things weren't converted correctly although the ac had been working fine since the install. He set up a date to fix the "error" . They showed up at the time scheduled and were in and out. However, up leaving the manager said "you hot water heater will need to be converted from electric to gas, and probably needs to be replaced." Which is odd as it's a gas water heater. I didn't think anything else of it, until the hot water heater pilot kept going out. I went to the attic to check and to my shock... the gas line had been crimped shut. Why would a heat and ac company do this? Your guess is as good as mine.

I went with…read moreCalloway & Sons solely based on their positive Yelp reviews as my friends really didn't have anyone to recommend. I'm not going to lie: getting this system installed in a home we were living in at the time was not a pleasure and I won't ever go through it again. We had to get the duct work done which is a horrifying mess (there's no way around it) and to Calloway & Son's credit, they did suggest we go with a split system. Live and learn. We also thought we were getting a system with zones which didn't happen and it was never fully explained why, but in these old homes with impossibly high ceilings and two levels, your bills are going to be extremely high if you have one single unit. It is what it is. I certainly don't blame them for that! But on to the most important stuff: the system is pretty good. Again, old house, not the greatest insulation and taking all that into consideration we are comfortable 80% of the year. The other 20% of times are where things are a less than awesome: this year's blizzard and any extremely cold days mean for a very hot upstairs, requiring us to run the window AC unit. And on those blistering hot summer days, there's no way we're comfortable upstairs without the window unit. Again, my house... it's ancient. It wasn't made for these types of systems. Last summer, there was a day in August when the system stopped working on a Friday. I was more than a little disappointed when I was told they couldn't give us a service visit unit until Monday. If you live here, you know it is literally unbearable to not have AC on a summer day. Luckily the very kind lady on the phone worked with us and fit us in. I also now pay for insurance that ensures priority service. I was only able to afford to get the HVAC on the owner's side of my two family house done and that was about 25K. The financing was not great... if I hadn't paid it off ASAP, it would have been almost double that. So try to pay it all upfront if possible. At least the option is there if you need it.
