I love this store. Byron is extremely efficient. Probably the fastest PPT I've ever experienced and no nonsense. He's also very friendly and always start with a great smile. The store itself is really cool and it's like a hunters lodge. The outside is deceiving as there are so much hidden gems there. I'd totally make this my LGS if I lived closer. There are a lot of cool new and used guns there and a lot of accessories. I'd make this part of my trip if I ever go up north. I typically never write a review on anything because I know from being in the service industry most reviews are not 100% accurate for both good and bad. I don't think this business deserves a 3 star overall rating and customers should understand where they are taking their business. I've used Byron for purchases going back to his early days working out of about 400 square feet. He has always searched out the most affordable prices and found me hard to find items that other "big stores" couldn't get. Now he has much better shop down town Durham and carries just what I would expect to see in a small town shop but he is always willing to order you what you want. As for knowledge of the industry, the man knows his job and is proficient. He has a passion for the business and is a sportsman himself. No one person will have all of the answers nor will they have everything you need right now. Too many times I see reviews with 1 star ratings with inaccurate facts. If you're unhappy with person because you just don't like them that's fine, but don't misrepresent the business because you were unhappy. If a business was truly a 1 star establishment they wouldn't be in business very long. Durham Guns & Ammo have been around a long time and I expect they will be here for many years to come. Be fair and thorough when making a review, small business deserves at least that. read more

I guess this place is OK if you are local and don't want to go someplace in Chico, but it really needs a major reorganization inside. Stuff everywhere, it looks like the shipping receiving department is next to the counter. They are finicky about selling or transferring things that other Local stores have no problem with. it feels like it has some potential but just kind of messy and not particularly welcoming. If I could give this store owner a negative zero I would have. I went there to this gun store just to purchase ammunition. This owner stupid dude ask me did I have California real ID card. I said no. He said, i order to purchase ammunition in california you need the real ID card crap. (Department of Justice's FAQ, ammunition buyers must show a valid California driver's license, California identification card (for non-drivers), or military identification.) And not any Bullshit ass real ID card crap. Dude if you didn't want to sale me anything that's all you have to say. But don't lie about some Bullshit ass federal law. I highly recommend this store to anyone in Butte County with an interest in firearms. Byron's prices are well below what other stores charge, especially transfers and ammo in bulk. The environment is comfortable, feeling more like walking into a friend's gun room than walking into a store. The customer service here is fantastic. Even though Byron's usually the only one there, he'll have the info you need to get you what's best for you. On top of that's, he actually cares about the 2nd Amendment and advocates for our rights by teaching CCW classes, understanding the little details needed for legally transferring firearms that other stores in the area won't transfer, and offering lesser-known products that mitigate the gun control laws that affect us. I plan to continue coming here for any firearm-related purchase. If you're coming in for a transfer, pick up a box or 5 of ammo, since all $25 of the transfer fee goes straight to CA DoJ. read more

I was sold a broken Colt 1911 and was basically told theres nothing they can do. they were unaware that the gun was broken and sold it as a working gun. I made it very clear I was a first time gun buyer and I was never made aware that it was a used gun. I was refused a refund and told I would have to pay for it to be repaired or they would buy it back at a fraction of the price. horrible service all the way around. Don't come here if you are new to the gun community, they will take advantage of you. read more

Good folk, but TERRIBLE gun smithing left a part very loose which is absolutely inexcusable, without a doubt a HALF-A*S Job was done with my firearm very disappointing. But otherwise than that, okay customer service, as well as selection in store, but I will definitely NEVER do business there again, nor would I recommend it to ANYONE. read more

Went to byron as my FFL dealer Dave moved out of town. He said Dave was sending all of his people his way to do business. I would advise Not to go to byron. He had horrible bedside manners and tried to continually guilt trip my friend and I to give him a tip for his services. If you want more money, just charge more rather than charging bare minimum for things and trying to guilt people into giving you extra cash... at one point he said "when you come back being me beer or give me a tip or I'll never do this for you again". Last time I transfer or do any gun business here. AVOID at all cost and go to down range or find a better private FFl. Dave... we miss you read more

I purchased a rifle with the old style DL the one that doesnt have federal restrictions went to pick up gun 10 days later was then told i needed birth certificut to pick it up, when i told him the id is fine he told me i needed to leave his store and he would mail me a refund"note not for the background check" i went strait to sportsmans warehouse who told me id was fine and didnt need a birth certificut and i bought gun there. So i wont ever go here again read more

I stopped by on Sat afternoon with the intention of buying a hand gun. One employee was bringing guns out of the case to show a customer. The other fellow at the other end of the counter was "shooting the breeze" with a fellow. I waited, and waited. walked around, and stood around and no one even acknowledged that I was there I will not go back and will go to Paradise or Oroville to purchase my gun. read more
