I bought 40 pieces of pan dulce for my church food court. Someone told me to come here. I know this place is known for their pan dulce so I gave it a try. The first thing I noticed is the quantity of pan dulce and cookies. Omg!! It's a lot!! If you are looking for variety and quantity this is the place your looking for. They also sell tamales. A bunch of other products and food is sold. I tasted the pan dulce and I give it solid 4 stars. My favorite pan was good but did not taste fresh. It lacked softness and size. It was on the small side. Not all of them were small. Just the one I like which looks crescent shape with yellow and sugar on the top. The lady was helpful. No one was there when we went so we got out order quickly. She was nice enough to put it in a box for us. I really appreciated that! read more

It saddens me to leave this review. I'm leaving two stars out of respect to the original owners. I've been coming here for over 30 years. My first question is: Is there new owners? Did they sell the business? For the past 6 or more weeks that I have been going in on Sundays there is barely any bread on display and what is there looks sad. The conchas look like a blind person put them together and they are hard. All there bread looks and taste like there day old bread. I haven't seen a familiar face since like for ever, really! I think it was last Christmas the last time I saw the usual lady's that are there on Sundays . For the prices on the bread, like past reviewers have said. I think they make it up each time you go in. I walked out one time and paid $12 for 10 pieces of bread and when I got to the car I had to look into the bag and count the pieces again, Wow I was blown away. I thought maybe she made a mistake but NO this happens every week I go. It's no longer worth coming here, I have to find another location that cares about the quality of there product and also charges correctly. If the Duran family did sell the business, the new owners should be honest enough to post a sign "under new management ". I believe in supporting our local businesses but not when the product doesn't meet what we pay for it. So Sad!!!!! read more

But let me tell you about my new Favorite and yes I said favorite item they sell there. I know you might tell yourself, really in a panadería. They make the best CHORIZO!!! It was hard finding a good chorizo. In pico, I tried about 6-8 and no luck. I personally don't like the market generic chorizo. To me a good chorizo has to be fresh. This chorizo was not greasy. I have been here a few times and every time I come the price goes up and I'm talking about one or two weeks in between. I don't like that the breads don't have prices and I am charged over $1 for each piece of bread and some breads cost more than others. Why not display the prices? Last time I went for two pieces of small pan dulce I was charged $2.40 and like a week earlier I was charged just under $2. Does the cashier make up the different prices every day? This place has "Cake Shop" prominently displayed outside, so I am amazed at the lack of service and quality I experienced. My sister is getting married, so we asked if they do cake tastings. They said no, so we asked the price of their smallest cake. $10. We ordered a cake and picked it up a few days later. "That will be $15". "I was told $10" "No it's $15. (insert snotty tone) $10 cakes don't EXIST here!" I really wanted to just leave the cake behind, because if they were pulling this bad customer service now, what would it be like if we ordered a wedding cake!!!! But this place is very close to the venue and my sister was looking forward to it, so we gave in and paid for the cake... To add insult to injury... the cake flavor order was not correct, and the cake was the WORST, DRIEST, FLAVORLESS cake I have ever had the displeasure of eating. It was so upsetting, I wanted to go throw the cake through their window for everything they'd put us through. Considering how brick hard it was, it probably would have broken it. :) read more

My family has been coming to this bakery for over 20 years. We moved out of Pico Rivera years back but still continued to come here when we were in town. The pan dulce use to be fresh and had a distinct flavor compared to other bakeries around that area. The quality of the bread has gone down so much. The bread still has good flavor but doesn't taste fresh and is hard. The conchas use to literally melt in your mouth definetely not the case now. I've been going to Duran's since I was a small child. The bolios are delicious (my favorite) and the conchas are always fresh with a great variety of other delicious sweet breads. I love that the person behind the counter gets your bread for you. I'm not a huge fan of the places where you grab your own, just because people can breath or cough all over it, and small children could be touching all the breads. I love the set up of this bakery. It makes for a more personal experience. I'm giving them 5 stars, because of their consistency in providing great food and service. However, I recently went there and the lady assisting was less than friendly. The man (I think one of the owners) came out with a large smile though. Maybe she was just having a bad day. read more

My family has been going to Duran's Bakery for as long as I can remember. We usually order tamales for the holidays and haven't had any issues until this year. We ordered FOUR DOZEN tamales and we noticed the first few we opened were much smaller than they seemed wrapped. Aside from that they were dry (they crumbled!) and very different from what we've had in the past. We thought maybe it was just those first ones but when serving them on Christmas morning, realized it was all of them. Everyone had something to say about them. :( FOUR DOZEN extra small, dry and crumbly tamales. We have been loyal customers for numerous years, but this is definitely unacceptable. read more

Don't be fooled by the 4 1/2 star rating. I grew up on Durfee so we would alway's buy our bread there, even up until November of 2014. Duran's sell their customers stale old pan dulce and try to pass it off as fresh. The last straw was when we bought bread after the Thanksgiving Holiday. The Pan Dulce they had sold us was HARD and crumbly. I guess it would have made good Pan Dulce croutons. Yuck, No Mas Duran's!!! You have lost a family customer of over 25yrs. When I am asked where to get good Pan Dulce, I tell them drive a little further and get the best and freshest Pan Dulce at El Gallos in East L.A..
