Okay, my second review for them: Durango's is still probably the closest thing to REAL Mexican food that I've found since moving to Texas. in 2004! I know, I know ... I'm in Texas. Texas + Mexican food = TexMex. It's just not my thing. I'm a California girl and grew up with real Mexican food. Plus numerous trips to Mexico (from border towns to Mexico City to Cancun). Nowhere in Mexico (or California) have I had chili poured over everything in place of enchilada sauce or mole. And Durango's is the only place I've had an enchilada (meat, cheese or otherwise) that is NOT covered in chili. Service has always been good, even when I've been a bit choosy. Which I know I can be. Chips are the best in town, hands down. Prices are very reasonable. AND, they have a drive thru window that is very convenient. But, call your order in first. It's always been ready when I get there to pick up. There is also a discount for cash. If I have one negative, it's for the temperatures on the beans and rice. Definitely need to be warmer. I prefer mine very hot, so this is the only place they loose a star. read more

I like to measure the authenticity of a Mexican restaurant based on their Barbacoa taco and Durango nailed it. Meat was not fatty and perfectly seasoned - slightly salty. Went through the drive thru so it was different that they asked us to come back in 15 minutes. read more

Used to be my favorite Tex-Mex for years! They changed their menu and raised their prices. They had The Best fresh guacamole and changed it and now it's called neena's and it's terrible And it $8.59 for a small bowl?!?! Servers more interested in visiting with each other than tending to their patrons. Hardly anyone in the place and no one came to my table for so long (I was dining alone) I had to go up to the check out to ask if I could get someone to help me. Giving 2 stars for the food but a 0 for service. We had tried it years ago and thought it had to be better as there were many cars parked! The waitress was busy talking to the cooks and the cashier couldn't be bothered unless you wanted take out. The waitress finally came over after we grabbed our own menus. But then when she came over asked if we were doing takeout. It was as if we took her job to bring a menu? Total disconnect for our small town. The chicken in the flautas was tough and not shredded into biteable shreds. Also the chicken was dry and chewy. The spicy enchiladas were not spicy at all. Worst ever potato, egg and bacon taco. Barely any egg and potatoes tasted old. These potatoes looked nothing like the fresh potatoes on plates going to other tables. My bean and cheese taco was better but could have been warmer. My friend liked her barbacoa tacos minus the corn tortillas it came on. She said they didn't seem like they cooked them. My other friend's plate looked way better. I should have gotten a plate. read more

At best this is gas station Mexican food! Don't expect a lot and you won't be disappointed. Food quality and taste needs to be improved for the price point. I know inflation is a real thing , most people will pay more for better quality food. read more

I've eaten here many times before as I used to go to school in this district and my family member works in this area. The food is great when I come with my family never any disappointment, once. Wimberley resident here. I've eaten at Durango dozens of times and it's the best value-for-money in town. I'm astonished at the negative reviews, but to be honest, most of them are quite ancient. First, the bad news. The young girls who wait tables understandably have their sights set on higher (professional?) prospects. They're bored, perhaps because the owner's generosity has hired too many of them. The service is perfunctory. Even as a regular, I get fairly middling service. But not BAD service! It's just "get the job done" service. The good news starts with -- hands down -- my favorite chips & salsa. I even buy it for my parties at home (and I entertain frequently). It's delicious. The enchiladas are great, despite the weird pink color. The beans are better than what you expect, made with lard (I suspect, which makes them so good). I've tried other dishes (all tasty) but the enchiladas keep me coming back. (I'll confess that I prefer Chuy's Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, but Chuy's is far away and more expensive). Hey, naysayers: don't come here but please, don't patronize the DQ. My secret hope is that DQ goes defunct, is razed, and Chuy's replaces it. Another tell-tale sign at Durango: at lunch, 70% of the patrons are Hispanic, including mainly laborers. That's proof to me. These guys are spending hard-earned money here, rather than just bringing beans/rice/tortillas from home to work. Durango's is a down-home, stick-to-the-ribs food place. If you've read any of my other reviews, I just love to go local. It breaks my heart that this didn't work out for me. I tried, but to be honest, the food doesn't rate any higher than this. Maybe it was the cook the day I was here or something because the reviews are all over the place for it. After five years in the area, I finally had a chance to check it out. Some random weekday, I stopped by at lunch. The door had "Voted Best Enchilada in Wimberley", so you know that had my name all over it. Entering the place I was impressed with the roominess of the many rooms, cleanliness of the bathroom and the promptness of the wait staff. My waitress was spot on and nice, so I don't know who the others bumped into. The problem was the food. Something just had a funky flavor too it. The beans had a weird after taste and the rice wasn't much better. It was the standard institutional wholesale goods, it just seemed like something happened in between. The beef enchilada had a rubbery tortilla and funky meat again. The tamale I had with it (I had some VERY cheap dinner combo that I was uber excited about) was very small and just dwarfed within the pile of average cheese and gravy. Overall it was just a disappointing meal that outweighed the rest of the good vibes. Maybe I'll try it again in the next five years and get one of those good experiences next time. I've been coming here regularly for a while, the service is okay and I definitely love the food but I saw today through the window that they are microwaving food in styrofoam. Are you serious? I'm not coming here to get cancer I'm coming here to eat good food. I've always questioned why the food comes out so quickly.. so often we come here, order and within 3 minutes our food comes out and many times it's not heated all the way through. Breakfast used to be fantastic! Something is missing, needs to go back to what the we're doing before. Potatoes where bland and dry, tortillas cold and chiliquilies was not eatable! Shame, tacos looked good but our breakfast was not as expected. Service was good. read more

The queso we ordered had the consistency of water and also tasted like water. To be fair, I called the restaurant shortly after getting home and they did offer to remake the tacos. Having grown tired of the Tex-Mex offerings in Dripping Springs, I recently started venturing over to Wimberley in search of better cuisine. First stop on my adventure was Durango's just a bit east of where Market Days are held on 2325. Simple digs with only a few parking spaces up front; more in the back. Friend and I had to wait a few while the tea brewed. That made the spice of the salsa a bit hard to handle. I picked the deluxe combo with a verde enchilada, chalupa, and taco with chicken. The plate came with the requisite refried beans and rice. Each bite was Tex-Mex bliss paired with the house made salsa. Buddy also enjoyed his soft taco plate also with chicken. What really stood out was the prices. My plate was $7.99! In comparison to Flores in Dripping Springs that's a $2 difference for the same plate. You could argue that I spent the extra bucks on gas, but I will tell you it's worth the extra effort for better food. read more

Amazing food and very pocket friendly. It is somewhere near the highway in nowhere. I went there by chance and got lucky. The food was very nice and they customized it to my preference. The service was quick and did pack spoons and forks as well. It was a to go order since they were closing at that time. We all sat outside on the benches which I don't think belonged to the restaurant but were lying there. I think it's a cute little restaurant with good food quality. A must try for anyone who lives near by or who is passing by from the highway towards that side. read more
