Long overdue review. We were in Durango to take the Durango-Silverton narrow gauge steam train that departs Durango shortly after 8am and because this place is not in town we had no choice but to board the furry friend for two nights so we dropped the pooch the night before the trip When I called from Silverton I was told that because he is very submissive and non aggressive they were going to isolate him for the night so others wont make him feel as scared with all the barking. At the time they were only open until 6pm so knowing the train arrived at 6 there was no way we could be there to pick him up the day of the trip so that is why we paid for the second night, and I see now that their hours have been extended until 7:30pm , when we got there the morning of the third day and they went to get him, it took a while for the handler to come back but when the handler finally came with the dog we were surprised to see that the dog would not stop complaining very loudly and when I took him outside he had me use three poop bags and gave me the impression he had been holding for a whole day or so. He peed like he had drank a litter of water all at once Apparently nobody checked on him on the other side of the building where it was more quiet. He complained all the way back to where we were staying like we have never seen before, he made a point and I promised myself not to ever board him anymore anyplace, you never know how well they communicate with each other. Stephanie was absolutely AMAZING with my two elderly little dogs! At their first grooming visit, before taking them back to be groomed, Stephanie very kindly took the time to ask all about them and let my tiny guys (and me!) get comfortable. It may have been the water or emotional but never have seen her sick for so many days will not be going back, money down the drain and the unexplained illness is what most concerns me read more

There are a few things I'd like dog owners to know about this place before they think of booking. 1. The safety of the dogs isn't necessarily thought out thoroughly. I had brought my dog in twice before boarding him. There is no interview process for the dogs. They also don't require quick release collars or anything of that sort. When we dropped our dog off for boarding, he was immediately put into the (small) yard for the large breed dogs. My dog was obviously overwhelmed, as he didn't get a slow introduction to the other dogs. 2. I was in twice before boarding, once to schedule the dates for boarding. When we dropped off our dog, the front desk lady said "well they didn't add you to our schedule" when she was the one who was there the previous time we booked the boarding. She had absolutely no idea how to reassure customers that the Durango Pet resort was organized. 3. We had our emergency contact pick up our dog. They didn't even ask her name or verify she was on the emergency contact list when she arrived. They constantly called our dog 'she', insinuating they don't really know the dogs they board. They double charged us, as they, again, had no record of our boarding, or us pre paying. The unprofessionalism, lack of knowledge of the dogs in their car, and lack of basic understanding of what was going on in their own business is more than enough to convince me to never take my dog here again. read more

If you care for your pets, do not leave them here. I have been too angry to write a review, but feel it is my responsibility to let others know what happened so other animals are not injured as ours was. In August when we went on our family vacation, I left my two golden retrievers here. Biggest mistake of my life. When we returned, our male golden was terrified, cowering on the floor and peed when he saw us. He was skittish and terrified of everyone for weeks after, not typical golden behavior. He had trouble walking, couldn't get in the car by himself and the emergency vet said his injuries TO HIS SPINE were consistent with being kicked or slammed against a wall. Luckily his injury did not cause permanent damage, but it should not have happened at all. We requested an investigation from Animal control, as the owners have refused to cooperate or interact with us. Animal Control said since there was no video surveillance, it was our word against theirs. Animal Control did express sympathy and said they believed that something did happen to our dog there at the facility. I have since met more than one person who had negative experiences with this facility, including one who said their relative worked there and quit their job because they were horrified by the way animals were treated. Don't let this happen to your dog. They do not monitor their employees via video. read more

I've been keeping my pup at this kennel for 2 days a week for awhile. I went to pick him up, the manager went back to get him, and all of the sudden I heard another dog really tearing into my dog (my pup was only 7 mo old). I went to the window and the owner was holding my dog and a guy helper was holding the other dog there--that dog still wanting to tear into my dog--and he didn't bother to move the other dog out of the way. No apologies; no acknowledgement that this happened. I asked the manager to have the owner call me and she refused, saying the owner wasn't available. When I said I can't have her treating my dog that way, she just replied "I'm sorry you feel that way.". Each time I went to pick my dog up, he was always help in a kennel. Not sure why that was.... because they don't have cameras. Beware. read more

Im giving NO stars but had to put something to post this. I'm horrified that this place is still in operation. As an animal lover I became a rover.com sitter to care for others pets. I could never reach them by phone. If I sent an email that was our only way we received a response. When I dropped my elderly lab off we discussed medications, supplements and her needs. They didn't post anything on their Instagram feed nor send any updates on my pets stay. Which is disappointing because I like to know how my pet is doing. The gal at the reception desk said, " we will take good care of her". Fast forward 5 days- pick up day. I paid the young girl at the desk. Wow, to my surprise my dog came out smelling of urine, and wet from urine, sores on her elbows, nose and back legs. I said what the hell is that? And the girl at the front desk said, " I didn't know if she came in like that" I replied with, " NO she did not" She said that my dog had laid in the yard on a grate! (Could you not move her if this was visible???!!! ) She also stated that my pet struggled in the kennel because it's slippery. Umm...figure it out - use some rubber mats. I will never recommend nor will ever use this facility AGAIN!!! Very poor care. This facility should be ashamed of themselves for treating pets so poorly. Disgusted!!! read more

I have brought my dog to stay here multiple times while I have gone on vacation, and I could not be more pleased! As this is a social doggie daycare, my dog Simba lovesss playing with the other dogs all day, and then he comes home and is even tired for a few days! The staff is so sweet and helpful, Erika and Carly always do such a great job with him, as well as us, every time we have brought him in. He always looks forward to coming every time! read more

We researched pet resorts for our visit to Durango to allow for a day at the hot springs. Unfortunately, this decision was sincerely regretful. We were not told from noon -2pm the dogs are kenneled and NO staff is present for 2 hours! We tried to call several times and on the 3rd attempt had a staffer answer the phone. Winston is 13 years old and never has been kenneled. When dropping him off Nicole asked if there is anything they need to know, besides the 2 forms we completed, and all the shot records. I told her he gets 1/2 of a treat after walk at noon. They said we don't walk them, so I said then just give 1:2 a treat at noon. Upon picking up Winston the treat bag containing his glucosamine and treats was empty, all but 2 treats were given. According to the vet he will have diarrhea for the overindulgence of treats and over dose of glucosamine, wonderful for our 6 1/2 hour trip back to Denver. We left our dogs here for daycare while we visited Mesa Verde. They were very accommodating to us out-of-towners. Our dogs were asleep in the car within five minutes after we picked them up. They seemed to enjoy it more than our local daycare places they regularly go to. It wasn't very big, but it was very clean and everyone was nice. It looks like they post a lot of dog pictures to facebook, so if you're lucky, you may get to see pictures of your dog playing. read more

Staff never answer phone and dont return calls or emails. Building looks run down and needs updating. Company blatantly violates PACFA licencing regulations. I was excited to use them for my dog. We used Durango Pet Resort recently while on vacation and had a wonderful experience. It was our first time boarding our dog and the staff made it a wonderful experience even though our dog was a little nervous. They made sure to tell us how she reacted through the day and what she did. The resort was very clean and smelled very clean and well kept. I've always been happy with Durango Pet Resort until this most recent stay by my dog. Prior to dropping him off I noticed that it was extremely rare for anyone to actually answer the phone. When someone did, they were friendly and professional. I dropped my dog off for an eight day stay and when I went to pick him up, at about 9am, I was told I would have to wait because they were busy. I was the only customer there. I only had to wait for about 10 minutes or so. When my dog was brought out, I was told he had kennel cough. My dog was fully vaccinated. I didn't get much of an explanation except that their vet had told them a nasty strain was going around. While I was paying, dogs were being dropped off and the owners weren't being told that there was a kennel cough outbreak at the kennel. When I got home I noticed that my dog had a small minor cut on his lip and he smelled bad. It looks like another dog bit him. My dog didn't get the same level of attention that I had come to expect from the kennel and I'm not sure I'll return. Based on my observactions, it looks like they might be understaffed. read more

I was looking for a place in Durango for daycare while we were visiting Mesa Verde and taking the Durango Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. We have had great experiences with Durango Pet Resort. They take the time to kennel our dogs where the dogs feel the most comfortable and not where it helps them with boarding more dogs. We recently adopted a second dog and we are working on training him and they have been absolutely GREAT at assisting us with our requests. They go above the call-of-duty to help us grow our pups and never complain. When we leave a message they always call back same day. Highly recommend them!! read more

We boarded our dog here while we visited Durango for a week. The staff, especially Erika, was great and very accommodating. Our puppy is 4 months old so we were worried about boarding him, but they put us to ease by giving us a tour of the facility, including the kennel and play areas. We were able to call and get updates on how he was doing, who he was playing with and even got to visit him a couple times. Moved from New York 3 years ago and was very apprehensive and concerned about where wevcould take our Chizer Licorice who was only a year old and has separation /anxiety issue. I was on highway 160 and noticed Durango Pet Resort, so I emailed them and was immediately contacted by the Manager Erika. Being in a new location, concerned about my Licorice it was Erika who reassured us, asked us to come over and bring Licorice and we did. Ever since then, Licorice has half play days, we even added entire full day, and the grooming creativity that Hanna does on our boy is to die for!. Licorice is a lot more calmer, has learned to mingle and play with dogs but most of all when we tell him you go to school or grooming he runs to door and whines. He rushes us because he wants to get to Durango Pet Resort FAST!!! Thank you as your Resort and workers ( love Erika and Hanna)have made our lives a lot easier. read more

As someone who has never boarded her dogs, I was very apprehensive about leaving my 2 dogs for three nights. The girl who booked my reservation was very professional and patiently answered all of my questions. When we arrived, I was pleasantly pleased in their facility. It was very clean, and had multiple staff members on site. The concrete floors were heated and they were happy to allow 2 large dog beds to be brought in. When I picked them up, they were happy to see me. They didn't seem traumatized in any way. Very grateful for the care they gave my dogs and the confidence they gave me to enjoy my vacation! read more

When I first moved here in January 2012, I needed to board my dog until I found a place to live. Soon after, he was having issues and the people at Durango Pet Resort took him to Riverview for me when I was working which was very helpful as I just started a new job. I would have stuck with them but my dog needs to be groomed often (I'm allergic to dogs) and at one point I called to schedule an appointment... and they no longer offered grooming services so I switched to a different place. But other than that, I had nothing but great experiences! read more

Durango Pet Resort is top notch! From the friendly staff, the beautiful facility, and the on-site pet groomer, it's about as good as it gets. We've boarded our dog, Copper, a few times there and he's always excited to return. I like that he comes home not totally dirty and stinky like some other places I've taken him too. Pam and Friends groomers is excellent as well. The cattery looks very clean, cozy and quiet for the feline friends as well. read more

My dog Cooper absolutely loves this place. I take him once per week for a "half-day" just to keep him socialized. When he gets home, he is worn out and runs / barks in his sleep. The staff is awesome and whenever I bring him in, he pulls on the leash to greet his play friends. I really like that dogs are separated by size / activity level and how clean they keep the place. I believe it is cleaned twice per day and they use chemical free steam cleaning. I also need to leave him for a week at a time on occasion while I visit friends / family back in Chicago. I'll be honest, leaving him is never easy no matter where I take him, but it's nice to know he's in such a great place where he will play all day long. I only have one complaint and that's that they close in the middle of the day for 2 hours. This is a pretty common practice for doggie daycares, so I won't ding them a star for that, but I sure do wish they stayed open all day long. Oh, and I've also used the grooming service multiple times. They rock! I've traveled around quite a bit and overall, this is a great boarding / daycare facility. No extra charges for "play time" like most other places - it's all included for a pretty reasonable cost. read more

The one star is because the facility is clean. I called in advance for reservations (mid July 2019) for one night and my vet emailed records. I followed up to insure they had received them and Erica said no. Then she looked again and saw them. Another time I called and spoke with another lady who assured me that picking up my dog after the 6:00 train was no problem. Additionally, she said to let them know I was on my way if it ran late. I made a quick trip to the restroom and then called the Pet Resort to let them know I was headed straight there to pick up my dog. I had to leave a VM and it was 6:17. When we arrived (directly) to pick up my dog at 6:35 the doors were locked. I was fuming! I had a vm from Erica saying she had HEARD MY VM & tried to call me several times" WHY??? Why did you need to call me when I called to say I'm Coming NOW!? I had to drive TWO HOURS the next day back to Durango to get my dog. I refused to pay for more than 1 night. I will never take my dog there again and beware of getting locked out even if you call them. (Like I was told to do) She had no apologies for miscommunication, nothing! She said other ppl on that train (some cars are full, others only a few ppl) were on time (6 min before me) so she thought I wasn't coming EVEN THOUGH she heard my vm that I was on my way. Durango Pet Resort is "as good as it gets." The place is clean, pet-friendly and very pet-savvy. Amanda and Todd truly seem to enjoy the animals they welcome to the kennel. Our 10 year old dog tugs at his leash to get inside and start playing with his day care buddies, and he doesn't mind staying there overnight. We boarded him for almost 3 weeks this year, while we were moving to a new home, and even after that, he's still excited when we turn in the driveway to the "Resort." Worst experience i ever had! I dropped off my dog healthy and after i picked her up she smelled like urine and her bed smelled like urine! She started vomiting and had diarrhea all day and night. She didnt eat either. I rushed her to the vet. She has a bad bacterial infection! It cost $240 to board her there and $210 at the vet. I called to tell the Durango Pet Resort. They didn't care. I dint recommend that place at all!! My will not ever go there again. Horrible experience! read more

My dog got attacked at the pet resort and had 6 bite wounds. The owner did call and apologize for this and said no one saw it happen. They did refund all my money for boarding. I will not board my dog here again, but I do appreciate that they refunded my money. read more

I called 2 months ago and scheduled for my dogs to stay for 2 weeks over christmas. I'm at the airport and my husband goes to drop the dogs off. They have no record of our reservation. When I tell her I have no where else to take them she says and I quote "it's not my problem honey". Thank goodness for good customer service from puppy love, they took my dogs last minute without complaints. They even stayed open late to give my husband time to drop them off. This was the worst customer service I have ever experienced. read more
