**2/5 Stars -- Poor Project Management, Questionable Workmanship, and Inadequate Cleanup
TL;DR -- Hey, stranger from the internet here!Considering DuraHome Painting? Allow me to share the three-week home improvement adventure I never signed up for. What was supposed to be a 4-5 day exterior painting project turned into weeks of frustration. Would I recommend them? Absolutely not.
1. Terrible Project Management:
DuraHome subcontracted our project but failed to adequately supervise the crew. We experienced multiple project manager changes, inconsistent staffing, unanswered calls, and constantly shifting schedules. We frequently learned about delays from the painters rather than management. I essentially became the project manager for an $11,000+ job.
2. Poor Lead-Paint Cleanup:
Our nearly 100-year-old home required extensive scraping. Potentially lead-containing paint chips were scattered across our deck, patio, mulch, and landscaping. With an infant and dog, this was particularly concerning. DuraHome eventually cleaned up and replaced affected mulch, but only after we documented and escalated the issue.
3. Questionable Paint Application:
The crew painted shortly before overnight temperatures dropped to approximately 34°F, below Sherwin-Williams Duration Exterior's stated 35°F minimum. I subsequently noticed bubbling on second-floor trim. While I can't definitively connect the two, it raises concerns about long-term durability.
4. Damage to Our Deck:
Painter's tape stripped stain from our recently refinished deck. Paint and primer cans were also placed directly on the deck without adequate protection. DuraHome initially proposed spot repairs, requiring us to push for a more comprehensive restoration.
5. Excessive Delays:
A project estimated at 4-5 working days stretched from October 1 to approximately October 23.
Bottom Line:
The painters worked hard, but DuraHome's management, property protection, and quality control fell well short of expectations. I would not hire them again.
The house got painted. My patience got stripped. Only one was in the estimate. read more
