He would show up at noon and leave at 3.. His work was so awful Unbelievable! The floor he put in was so wobbly .. bottom line I had another contractor come in .. and he had to RIP OUT EVERYTHING that Al had done. Al cut a board that was a load bearing board Architectural damage... if left that way He never put the insulation back in.. No heat or air BTW all of this was in the contract!! Mechanicals a re destroyed furniture is floating around. A real mess. Not only do I have a real mess, but my tenants have no hot water and I need help quickly. It's a holiday though and nobody wants to help. Insurance loopholes its way out of this one, my usual guys are out of town. Luckily my super tenant starts asking around and his CTA bus driver has a neighbor who might be able to help. Enter Al of Helping Handyman Work This was a messy job, that I was trying to manage from overseas and I am so grateful that Al's neighbor drives a CTA bus because he totally came through. He and his crew were communicative, always on time and happy to do a pretty messy and complicated job. In the end Helping Handyman Work did the following: Purchased / delivered & installed 2 new water heaters Demo'd an old deck Remediated a wet / damp basement (cutting out dry wall, bleaching impacted areas) Identified the root cause for my water (deteriorated foundation) Fixed the foundation Rebuilt a stair case Hauled away all junk They did this all within a week and at a very competitive price. I am so grateful to have met Al. He really came through when we needed him. He is an honest guy who will give you a good price on good work. He will be my first call next time I need any help.

I had him do an estimate for painting a few rooms in my condo, he provided the quote and an estimate on when he could start working. Since COVID-19 social distancing rules were not yet established the start date changed a few times over a few months, which is completely understandable. I would text every 3-4 weeks to check on a start date. He replied with a date and I replied right away to confirm. The day before he was supposed to start I figured I would reconfirm that he was starting the next day since he had not said anything since asking me if that date would work. He replied on the day very rudely with "I never confirmed for today at 2 I'm booked at this time. I asked when the next available date was and received no reply. Why would he ask me if that date worked and I replied within a minute of him asking me, so it was pretty safe to assume we were good to go. He has done projects for us before and everything went great, so I am not sure why he decided to be rude. Needless to say, I found someone else that is more reliable. Sorry Artie, I thought highly of you and recommended you to friends because of the great work you did before, but how you handled things was unprofessional.
