BBQ is a gem of the American countryside dining. Partially, because the only other alternative is…read moretypically fast food. But, that would not be a fair description of this tradition: BBQ is an incredible style of cooking and spots like this represent this tradition well. BBQ 65 is conveniently located right off the interstate in a gas station in a saloon like building that has a beautiful character from the outside. Open since 2010s, this spot has started to earn its place in the BBQ world, albeit being newer to it. There is an indoor seating inside near the gas station shop aisles. The ribs are cooked well with a nice wood profile, but neither very delicate nor particularly notable for their flavor of the meat itself, with smoke notes dominating. The quality of pork itself and the slightly tougher preparation could be better to rival Alabama's best. The BBQ sauce is loaded up with vinegar, completely overpowering the meat if consumed together, although to be fair, this may be a matter of preference for some BBQ lovers. The star of the show is potato salad which was perfectly balanced on its acidity, sweetness and overall flavor. As a whole, BBQ 65 is a pleasant stop to experience some traditional southern cooking and support a local business instead of tossing money into another "by the exit" fast food chain.

Although in new digs, the decor evokes the ambience of the original Shack, resulting in an interesting, funky place to enjoy their food. This time I had the mushroom burger with sweet potato fries, and the large serving of angus beef did not disappoint. Our friendly server made sure our diet cokes and water kept up with our thirst, and we were happy we could still count on our oasis The Shack. Great prices, good sized servings, several meat choices.

When I write about restaurants that I have visited, I take into consideration just what kind of…read morerestaurant it is. In this case, since it is a Burger King, there just isn't very much to say. We all know what food they are supposed to be making, we all know what recipes are going to be used, and we go into these restaurants because they provide the same thing across the board, from town to town, state to state. So realistically what we evaluate when we look at these places is whether or not they maintain the standard (which means an average score), whether they provided some sort of exemplary service (this one was just normal service), and whether they provided horrible service (again, just normal service). So really, it was just a standard hum-drum experience at a Burger King, just like every other one scattered around the nation.
