Greasy, Tasty, and Worth It Ed's Drive-In is one of those places that looks a little rough around the edges -- but in the best way. Ed's used to be our favorite place to stop in on our way to camp at Service Park Campground. We even bragged on their hamburgers to friends from another state. We were so disappointed with our food this time. The burgers had a different taste from other times before, the meat had so much black pepper in it, I couldn't even finish it because my throat was burning. We tried the one in Grove Hill today after we heard they just opened, but unfortunately they weren't good either. Very sad. read more

Locally owned which a plus. Good food and lots of choices. Old drive-in style. From burgers & fries to milk shakes & ice cream.

Pretty good for the area. There's only two "dairy bars" (burger joints) in town, Ed's Drive In being one of them. The other one was sub-par when the wife and I tried it out. Won't go back. Ed's on the other hand is a go-to place for a great burger and fries. The milkshakes are great as well. For me, the double-bacon cheeseburger with a small seasoned fries and sweet-tea hits the spot. The Mrs typically gets a bacon-cheesburger, onion rings and a milkshake. Consistent as always. The cashiers, well.... they take the order and that's about it. Some don't really have any personality or friendliness but I ain't there for that. Miss Donna, when she is there, is the shining star of that place. read more

I have been eating at Ed's my whole life, and the food has never been better! If you go at breakfast, get you a grilled bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich. Yummy! If you go at lunch or dinner, get a steak sandwich and get them to add cheese and grilled onions, get some seasoned fries, and a cherry Coke or diet cherry Coke. Stopped in today for a burger, heard they were good from the girls in the gas station next door. I decided to go with the steak sandwich because, come on...chicken fried steak! Ed's Drive In has been a Jackson landmark since the 1960s and only continues to get better. It has recently been revamped by new owners and has been brought back to its delicious and friendly manner that has kept it a favorite in local's hearts. The steak sandwich is oh-so yummy and the burgers are definitely the best in town (the best in two counties to be honest). Is there a soul in Jackson who has not tried Ed's? Is there a native Jacksonian who does not get a little misty-eyed reminiscing of their childhood while slurping a peach or strawberry shake and hunkering down on a steak sandwich? I've traveled all around this beautiful country, and let me tell you that not every small town has a place like this. Called an order in 20 min ahead of pickup. Ordered a BLT and got 5 miles down the road and realized the BLT had no tomato. I drove back and requested to either have a new sandwich made or a refund and Ed's refused. Wouldn't you think they'd tell me on the phone when I placed my order that they were out of tomatoes? They asked to see the food and when I placed the food on the counter the employee then claimed I "threw the food down". The owner got involved and refused to help me in any way. I've been a customer for 25+ years and since the new owner has taken over the service and food quality has gone down the drain. I will not be back and I advise you not to waste your time! I was charged full price and didn't even receive the food I ordered. Such a shame a Hwy 43 institution is being run into the ground by new ownership! read more

If Mr. Ed was still running it, it would easily be 5 stars. It isn't as good as it used to be, but better than fast food.

They have the BEST hamburger I've tried in a LONG LONG time! Cooked to perfection with just the right amount of fixings. Not so overloaded that you can't taste the meat. The onion rings are amazing as well. Firm and crunchy on the outside but filled with caramelized joy! And I don't even know where start with their milkshakes. They have to be tasted to be believed. Mr. Troy Jones started this place (Troy's) and was the spot to be on Friday & Saturday nights for teens. Mr. Troy made all the teens stay in line. The dent on the North side window (next to Gulf station was put there by none other that John D. McC???) when he was in school at U. of Ala. Mr. Ed Harris (Ed's) worked with Mr. Troy and pretty much did the same with us teens. Both these men helped a lot of people in Jackson and no one ever hardly knew. They were great men to be around. Continued on by Mr. Billy & Alicia Wimberly and now Mr. Maury Dumas. It has always been great food and still is. The place next to it was Ray & Tom's restaurant at one time.
