Clearly a local favorite, the Dunlap Restaurant is the place to go when in Dunlap, TN. The portions are large. The options are many. The prices are fair. It can be a bit slow when the place is full, so don't be in a hurry. Excellent service. All that being said, it's not necessarily the prettiest or most memorable visual experience.

    Hashbrowns, eggs, gravy, grits

We came here after staying at Falls Creek Falls. It was a very nice diner. The people were super nice. The servers were excellent. The food was great. I definitely think it was a great choice to have breakfast at. I had grits (i've been obsessed with grits since my cousin vinny). I ordered the hasbrowns crispy, i didn't expect them to be soo crispy though. Other than that I thought it was a pretty great experience. Would recommend.

Food 2.5 service 4 Convenient next to our motel and because we were so tired from our hikes we did not search for any other place. Simple cooking, very busy, just not my taste. I could not eat the Pork chops or the green beans. My husband said his pork tenderloin was okay and he ate all of his food. I ate biscuits. Breakfast was again simple eggs, sausage, and biscuits and that was good for us. Did not have juice or other items .... Maybe affected by the economic crisis ??

Chicken tenders, macaroni and cornbread salad

Typically small town local restaurant that you'd see in movies where everyone knows everyone. If you're not from the area, we were just passing through, you may get a few stares but everyone was extremely nice. Service was quick and efficient. Prices were slightly higher than I'd imagine for a small town country place, but portions were good. Meat and 3 are their big pull, with daily and weekly specials. Chicken tenders were great, macaroni typical, but the cornbread salad was meh. Tasted like potato salad with cornbread mixed, so if we ever returned I wouldn't get it again. Definitely a decent place for a good meal not far off the interstate.

Two Eggs, Grits, Hashbrowns & Gravy

During our airbnb stay in Dunlap, my friend and I searched for breakfast options before heading to Falls Creek Falls. We came upon this restaurant, which seemed quite popular so we decided to give it a try. I personally ordered 2 eggs, grits, hashbrowns & gravy with a coffee to drink. My personal opinion/experience: - Pricing: 5/5 One thing I can't disagree is that the pricing is very fair. For my breakfast plate itself, it was $4.79. Coffee (w. free refills) was $1.75. I was satisfied that I can get my breakfast fill for a very decent price. - Service 4/5 We got seated right away and as soon as we were ready to order, they were ready. They came to us a fair amount of times to check up on us despite the influx of customers coming in. - Food 3/5 I found my breakfast plate to be a bit bland for my taste. I did add ketchup & hot sauce, but I still wasn't really satisfied to my expectations. Hashbrowns were a bit soggy than crunchy. Grits were plain (ideally I wish they'd have an option to make it cheese grits instead). Gravy also could have been more flavorful as well... - Drinks 1.5/5 As with the coffee, I was very disappointed. I really wanted the caffeine, but I couldn't get myself to even finish the small cup - never-mind another refill that they kept offering. To me, the coffee itself had a bit of a strange after-taste. I can't really describe it or know what it was... I also tried my friend's lemonade to find that it wasn't what I was expecting at all... I didn't really taste the lemon juice. I tasted more of the lemon rind in water than anything. Overall, the food/drink didn't satisfy for me or my friend. But if you are looking for a quick/cheap breakfast fix around Dunlap, maybe this will do it for you.

Selenna was our server and she was so attentive to our party of 6 as well as the other tables she was taking care of. The salmon on my strawberry feta salad was seasoned to perfection! There are large TVs with sports playing, indoor and a heated patio for seating. Did I mention that Selenna was great?? I highly recommend trying this place!

My husband had the Smoked Brisket French Dip - Smoked Brisket, Caramelized Onions, Provolone Cheese, Au Jus, French Hoagie with Beer Battered Fries. I had The Motherclucker - Springer Mountain Farms Southern Fried Chicken, Spiced Pickles, Hot Sauce, Duke's Mayo, Niedlov's Bun. Hunter recommended adding Pepper Jack cheese and Bacon, as well as the Brussels Sprouts with Maple & Bacon. Everything was wonderful. There were way too many Brussels sprouts. It also would have been nice if they were cut into smaller pieces. They had a special dessert of Blackberry Cobbler with Vanilla Ice Cream. This brought back childhood memories of my grandmother's cobblers. My husband had the Brownie with Vanilla Ice Cream.

It was also a beautiful day so we sat on the patio. I love that they work with local organizations for fresh vegetables and meat! Our waiter was very nice and fairly attentive. But the food... For the good - the crab cake was delicious. It was like all crab meat with no filler and was very tasty. The pimento cheese was also SO yummy. You could tell it was made fresh and had a great flavor. The pita it came with was fine, a little over-grilled. I was not crazy about the fried okra. I wish the pieces weren't just cut in half, because to me they had that slimy okra texture inside. My gf said they weren't THAT bad, but I really had to push myself to eat them. The rosemary fries have a great flavor and were crispy (I prefer thicker fries but my gf enjoyed these). I LOVE mac and cheese and was super excited to try theirs. It was very creamy and had a good flavor but there was way too much cheese for the amount of noodles. Like the ratio was pretty off. Now for THE issue. My gf ordered the Filet Mignon, medium. It came raw and without the blue cheese compound butter. By the time the waiter came to check on us, I was half done eating. He took the steak to be put back on the grill and brought it back with a bowl of crumbled blue cheese. It was still raw inside. He brought us extra fries, but by the time it came back I was done eating. She asked for it to go and it was STILL RAW. She had cut it, so it was super obvious if you looked. The manager came and talked to us and they took it off the bill, but for a $40 filet mignon it should not take 3 tries to cook it right and it still not really be right. She said there are cold spots on the grill and they're training a new line cook, but it was not a good look... I'd maybe give more of a pass if they were packed, but there was no one eating inside and maybe two other tables of folks outside.

They were okay, but for 5 bucks...what do you expect?‍. I would say the accompanying butter was supposed to be honey butter, but it seemed like regular butter to me! The server was polite, but I was scratching my head because she started with---"Let me go see what's not available anymore." Shouldn't she have done that before speaking to us?? The atmosphere is relaxed, but there isn't much to the decor. It was just casual.... there was brown butcher paper on top of white table cloths...kind of tacky really. It was busy, however, which added to the noise. Hubby and I both ordered the 1885 burger. Now, we are talkin'! The burger was delicious! . It was juicy and tasty. Just an all around fantastic burger. This alone is what will bring me and hubby back. The loaded baked potato was standard, but good too. It sounds like this experience wasn't great, but like I said, the burger alone is enough to go back to enjoy.

We were there for lunch but I think it would lend itself to quite the romantic setting at night. My partner and I both sampled hamburgers which were excellent. I didn't read the description well and ordered the "screen door" so I was totally unprepared for the monstrosity set down in front of me. Held together by a steak knife, only the handle was visible. The 6 oz patty had a massive amount of onion rings on top with arugula, shaved lettuce, red onion and tomato rounding out the display. It was all served on a fresh and delicious brioche bun. My only failing was I missed that it was served with stone ground mustard. I don't care for it and should have requested another condiment but I ate it and didn't regret it. My partner's smash burger was very tasty and served with similar accompaniments minus the onions rings. Therefore, his burger was only about 4" tall instead of the 8" monster I tackled and I really regret we didn't get pictures! We both chose not to order fries but sampled some of the other sides offered. I chose coleslaw and I have to say I didn't eat much of it. There were some spices in it that just didn't set right with me although I know a lot of folks would be very pleased with it. The other side on the table was their take on Mac and cheese. I would order this all day, any day and twice on Sunday! It was made with large elbows which tasted as if they were boiled in chicken broth then shredded chicken was added to the mix. We also ordered a piece of pie each although after that meal, most of those went into a to-go box. The peanut butter pie had a graham cracker crust with a layer of melted chocolate then a peanut butter mixture piled about 4-5 inches high on top of that. It was very peanutty and huge so I probably should have just ordered that as my lunch. I would like to see a layer of chocolate to downplay the overwhelming peanut butter but then again, I'm a sucker for chocolate and peanut butter together. The other pie was a chocolate pecan which was okay but that's one pie that should be served warm to bring all the flavors forward. Otherwise, it was just another pecan pie variation that one can get at several restaurants. Our waiter was very personable and extremely knowledgeable about the site and the food served and gave some excellent recommendations. We thoroughly enjoyed our conversations with him. Would I go back? You betcha! There's a lot of menu yet to discover and I have friends in Bledsoe county that I will ensure know about this place.

The salad had such a great flavor pairing that even my husband, who is not a beet fan, loved it (a true culinary miracle).
