We stopped for lunch today after hiking the Cumberland trail nearby and had high hopes for some great souther home cooked food. While the people and service was great, the food was incredibly disappointing. My husband had fried chicken with apples, potatoe salad and hash brown casserole. I had 4 vegetables- fried apples, cabbage, squash casserole and candied sweet potatoes. The chicken was really 2 tenders with more breading than chicken and both the has brown casserole and sweet potatoes had a dish detergent taste. That was disappointing because the first few bites were really tasty but bottom part of the dish was really bad. The apples were great and we both had those. The cabbage was fine.... But for me the worse choice was the squash casserole- I truly don't know what was in but it was a blended mess with only one discernible piece of squash in there. Again, I hate to be negative but there so many negatives I would hope the owners/manager would want to know read more

We have always enjoyed the drive over to eat at the Dunlap Restaurant until today.My food was simply terrible.Always loved the turkey and dressing.Today it was soggy cornbread with no seasoning.When they asked if everything was OK I told them.I ate 2 bites.The lady was very nice and called John over who said you should have said something and we would have gotten you something else.Then proceeded to leave.No I'm sorry.Will never go back again.Whoever John is needs to learn how to talk to customers!By the way was not asking for a refund!!! read more

The coffee is good. The food not so much. We stayed in the hotel adjacent and ordered the first day off of the menu for guests. The eggs were barely flipped over. Runny whites are not my thing. It was more like egg soup. Just no! Second morning we ordered the biscuits and gravy. While I didn't expect it to meet my own gravy I didn't expect the brown mealy goop we got with crumbly biscuits. It was browned butter turned into gravy with absolutely no seasoning. I ordered extra hash-browns and I'm not sure they even saw the grill. Food 2.5 service 4 Convenient next to our motel and because we were so tired from our hikes we did not search for any other place. Simple cooking, very busy, just not my taste. I could not eat the Pork chops or the green beans. My husband said his pork tenderloin was okay and he ate all of his food. I ate biscuits. We came here after staying at Falls Creek Falls. It was a very nice diner. The people were super nice. The servers were excellent. The food was great. I definitely think it was a great choice to have breakfast at. I had grits (i've been obsessed with grits since my cousin vinny). Typically small town local restaurant that you'd see in movies where everyone knows everyone. If you're not from the area, we were just passing through, you may get a few stares but everyone was extremely nice. Service was quick and efficient. Prices were slightly higher than I'd imagine for a small town country place, but portions were good. Meat and 3 are their big pull, with daily and weekly specials. Chicken tenders were great, macaroni typical, but the cornbread salad was meh. Tasted like potato salad with cornbread mixed, so if we ever returned I wouldn't get it again. During our airbnb stay in Dunlap, my friend and I searched for breakfast options before heading to Falls Creek Falls. We came upon this restaurant, which seemed quite popular so we decided to give it a try. I personally ordered 2 eggs, grits, hashbrowns & gravy with a coffee to drink. My personal opinion/experience: - Pricing: 5/5 One thing I can't disagree is that the pricing is very fair. For my breakfast plate itself, it was $4.79. Coffee (w. free refills) was $1.75. I was satisfied that I can get my breakfast fill for a very decent price. - Service 4/5 We got seated right away and as soon as we were ready to order, they were ready. They came to us a fair amount of times to check up on us despite the influx of customers coming in. - Food 3/5 I found my breakfast plate to be a bit bland for my taste. I did add ketchup & hot sauce, but I still wasn't really satisfied to my expectations. Hashbrowns were a bit soggy than crunchy. Grits were plain (ideally I wish they'd have an option to make it cheese grits instead). Gravy also could have been more flavorful as well... - Drinks 1.5/5 As with the coffee, I was very disappointed. I really wanted the caffeine, but I couldn't get myself to even finish the small cup - never-mind another refill that they kept offering. To me, the coffee itself had a bit of a strange after-taste. I can't really describe it or know what it was... I also tried my friend's lemonade to find that it wasn't what I was expecting at all... I didn't really taste the lemon juice. I tasted more of the lemon rind in water than anything. Overall, the food/drink didn't satisfy for me or my friend. We are traveling on our way to Florida and we stopped for gas. We stumbled upon this "hole in the wall" called Dunlap Restaurant. This place is a small mom and pop type of restaurant that looks outdated and aged, but Wow!! Such delicious food!! I ordered the hamburger steak with grilled mushrooms and onion topped with gravy, with sides of turnip greens, cucumber salad, and green beans. Oh, was it awesome!!! This was true to their motto of "Good Home Cookin'"!! The food portions were so large that my only regret is I had no room for dessert. I am certain that their homemade pie must be spectacular! My husband and I were up in Tenn for the longest yard sale and stopped in this semi famous restaurant. Upon arrival was greeted with a friendly smile and a wait time of 30 mins. We were happy to wait and that time was actually 10 mins. My husband had the chicken and dumplings w/ collard greens, salad and cornbread. I hard the pork tender lions with Mac and chez (yum) mash potatoes w/ gravy, and delish cornbread. Both dishes were generous portions, piping hot and spiced well. We were enticed to have a piece of the delish homemade by a local lady, the Coconut cake. OMG was so good not too sweet and very good. My wife and I are moving to Dunlap, Tennessee from Virginia when I retire from the Navy at the end of this year. During our house-hunting trip, we stopped at the Dunlap Restaurant to get a late lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The place was PACKED! Since I am still in the military, I was not able to stay and enjoy a lunch inside, so we ordered To-Go lunches from their specials menu. We were not at all disappointed! The food was fantastic, and a great value. I can definitely see the Dunlap Restaurant becoming one of regular stops when we become residents of the town in early 2021! read more
