Great sandwiches, good drinks, and friendly staff. Worth the visit if you are in the area!read more

Happened upon Java Bean Cafe when we were randomly in the area to pick up a belt bag that my wife…read morehad found on Facebook and I was very happy we did. The space is very bright with gold and color everywhere on a bright little corner in Claymont and has good parking in front and around back. But what is really exciting is that when you step through the door and walk to the counter, you see how interesting the menu on offer really is. I had every intention of having a breakfast sandwich or bagel, but once I saw the whole menu and saw that I could order a noodle bowl for breakfast, the game had changed. I also ordered a delicious cappuccino which was extremely hot, almost too hot, but was very espresso forward and perfect for the morning. However, the two bagels we ordered, one for my wife and one for my youngest daughter, despite being delicious, had barely any cream cheese on them at all. The noodle bowl and rice bowl that we got were also tasty but there was nothing exceptional about them or to make them stand out other than my initial excitement that I could order noodles for breakfast. Everything was made by hand and done right then and there and fairly quickly and everything was very fresh as well as everyone that we interacted with being very helpful and upbeat when we ordered. I even asked about getting one of their very fun shirts they have available. If you happen to be passing on 495, a quick two minute drive off the exit will get you here and it's worth it rather than heading to some chain. Hop on by and enjoy a delicious coffee and possibly some noodles for breakfast if that's your thing like it is mine!

The ceremonial and cheerful chime of bells and spontaneous fanfare welcome newcomers! You instantly cross from a bustling city sidewalk into a sanctuary of warmth decorated in local artistry. The atmosphere blends intimate, historic charm with a vibrant quasi fusion Caribbean palette. Mismatched, colorful plates pass by, piled high with larger-than-life portions; just like home. Local art lines the walls, while a corner stacked with instruments invites patrons to strum or play a casual tune. In the cozy "Safe Zone," guests laugh over vintage board games. Internet quality is excellent if you are remote and in need of a delicious cup of Joe. It feels less like a commercial business and more like a lively family gathering hosted by the owners, Tim and Christine. The execution of the menu by French Chef "Momo" elevates comfort food into a wonderful experience. The French toast special is spectacular: Very fluffy, golden bread, vibrant crown of fresh blueberries and strawberries. A delicate snow of confectionary, very healthy portion of sausage, exceptionally seasoned over-easy eggs, accented with golden, giant crisp home fries completes the morning at home memory. A meal that cannot be rushed but savored while taking in the immensely positive vibes of the establishment. The service matches the caliber of the kitchen. An expert barista named Ivory delivers the house-famous cinnamon cappuccino in a colossal, comforting cup that makes you feel right at home. Her hospitality is both attentive and warming, often offering books, games and other diversions to ensure the brief wait is as delightful as the meal itself. Now, I know how to play "Beat the Deck". This rare Wilmington, DE gem transforms dining from a transactional pit-stop to the train-station into an unforgettable experience. It is a rare haven that makes you want to linger long after the final sip of coffee and often into the next meal. I will definitely be returning often to get out of my home-office and savor other delicacies from their ample menu options.
