Four days ago someone named D C gave this place a one star review and their argument was "I don't…read moreget it." Not understanding something's appeal does not warrant a one star rating. I just drove all the way down here from Michigan because my wife grew up in Iowa and has been craving them for a very long time. This was our first time to try one outside of Iowa but it was very much worth the drive if for no reason other than seeing her smile. Is it the same as what she grew up with? No. Was it good? We each got two sandwiches and after finishing we got right back in line for the drive thru and each got two more. And Maid-Rite meant literally nothing to me before we got here but we are already talking about coming back again. Why? Because it was good! But my wife would say that people who love this location should go visit an Iowa location because they're just as famous for their onion rings and fries as their sandwiches.

I've been going to Maid Rite since I was a kid in the 60's. There is nothing better than a sack…read morefull of Maid Rite sandwiches. With that said, I've found the the quality that I've been used to expect is hit or miss. The biggest issue is that the sandwich meat can be dry requiring a drink to get it down. I also found the sweetness that you always got is not what it used to be. Before the business was sold several years ago, you always had the same employees that had this down to a science. Now I find that there is a turnover of help and it appears that the original recipe has lost its consistent flavor.

There have been several businesses in this location over the last few years and unfortunately none…read moreof them stick. We saw advertisements for this place on a local FB group and decided to drive out to give them a try last night for dinner. The menu is simple, burgers, sandwiches, appetizers. You can pay $2.99 to add fries to any sandwich which makes their prices comparable to many restaurants that include fries. We ordered a mozzarella stick app, bacon blue cheese burger, cowboy candy burger, and a highland burger all with fries + 2 sodas and it was about $44 + a tip. We also ordered 3 cookies which I didn't realize we weren't charged for until after I got home. The dessert and "specials" didn't have prices on the board, so I was surprised to see the special burgers were nearly $10 each. I reached out to their fb page to let them know that we weren't charged for our cookies and offered to pay for them - was pretty surprised when I called to pay and it was almost $15 for 3 cookies. Pricing transparency is extremely important to our family because we do have a slim dining out budget and always tip. Given that we live 30 mins from the restaurant and got carryout, I'll be easy on my review and we will give them another try with dining in. The young girl working the counter when we ordered seemed pretty overwhelmed and the customer service left a lot to be desired. Our daughter said the bacon blue burger was very good - she didn't enjoy her fries (none of us did, but could definitely be because we had a 30 min drive home and they were in styrofoam containers). My husbands cowboy burger came with a jalapeño sauce, but the bun soaked it up before we ever made it home. He also did not enjoy his fries. I got the highland burger which came with coleslaw and purple onion on it. Maybe I'm picky regarding coleslaw, but mine was very bland. I ended up adding pepper and celery seed to the top of my burger/coleslaw to try and salvage it. The burger was pretty dry and didn't include any additional sauce or cheese on it. Like I said, we will definitely try again but will dine in the next time. There are several tables inside the place, but no waitstaff. You grab a menu, place your order at the counter, and find a table. I do hope they succeed because the owner was very nice when I reached out regarding not being charged for the cookies, but I believe in order to attract more people from outside of North Lewisburg they'll really have to step up their game.

Very friendly people, great cheeseburgers, and love the local desserts from different bakers each…read moreweek.
