Glad I could enjoy my breakfast! Absolutely ridiculous and should not of been given to a customer!! Do better.

The first thing I noticed when I entered the store were the bees flying around the donuts. When I pointed out to the girl working the counter that they had an insect problem, she laughed and made a joke about it. Nobody seemed concerned that there were bugs crawling over the food they were selling. I doubt I will come back.

I've been here constantly and they always find some way to mess up a drink or forget a sandwich. Donuts are fine though.

Pittsburgh: Yinz( you all) have definitely heard of the " Steel City", Primanti Bros sandwiches…read morewith slaw and fries on the sammy, Heinz ketchup, the Steelers and Mr Rogers. Let me be the first to enthusiastically introduce yinz( hey like they say 'yous guys' in Philly) to a rare gem located an hour east of Pittsburgh in the town of Latrobe, Pennsylvania. I am writing about the one and only Powers Donuts and Pastries and their fantastic, passionate, accommodating and kind owner Monica, a US Army Veteran( Thank you for your service) who was active duty and is now sharing this love and drive via her quality and unique baked creations using local ingredients and products. My dear friend Ankit lives in Pittsburgh and today is his birthday. His mother and I decided to send him something at the very last minute.Sadly, Yelp delivery online to Ligonier stated" Oops, there are currently no open businesses that deliver to Ligonier". I did a search and called and e mailed 8 different bakeries and pie places in the vicinity. The only one who responded and within 37 minutes was Monica. She was so sweet and willing to help, make some fresh goodies and deliver them herself. She was so thorough - likes, dislikes, theme - b day or Halloween( Ankit has a 7 year old son), allergies, special requests. Honest is an understatement - her quote for the price for the box of goodies delivered by 4 pm( we spoke and placed the order at 11:52 am) was fantastic!! Payment was via Square. They LOVED the treats which were presented in a beautiful box with cupcakes, brownies and cookies!!! Monica, we can't thank you enough for your love - Philly might be the city of Brotherly Love but you sure showed us all this is Universal love; for your passion, kindness, thoughtfulness and for the delicious and amazing items that made my little brother's and nephew's day a million times more beautiful.

I was very skeptical of the hype around this place. I generally am not the type to stand in a very…read morelong line for food. But I was in the area one Saturday morning around 9 am and the line looked manageable so figured I'd try and see if I could get some. I waited maybe 10-15 mins, so not too bad. My 5-star review is 100% due to the old fashioned donut. When it was my turn to order they had literally just brought out a tray of donuts that looked really good. I asked what they were and was told "old fashioned". Since they just came out fresh I decided to get a couple. I should've got a dozen of just those. Since it was my first time I picked several others to try and they were all fine, but the old fashioned - elite. I would definitely wait in another (10-15 min manageable) line for those specifically. My husband had to talk me down from returning the next day to get more lol.

If you are truly looking for some of the best donuts in the Pittsburgh area, then look no further…read more Better Maid is a locally-owned small business with some of the best cake donuts I have ever tasted. Located on Steuben Street in the West End, this shop dates back several decades. It is located in an unassuming white building, with little signage. However, there is plenty of street parking along with the private lot on the side. This place does not necessarily have set business hours. They have an open time, and go until they sell out. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday they are open at 7 AM, and the weekends is 8 AM. I would advise arriving for the set open time if you are planning to get donuts on any given day. Especially on the weekend, they will sell out within an hour or two (yes, the donuts are that good!!). Plan accordingly if you are planning to stop. It is not unusual for a line to be forming 30+ minutes before the doors open. The plus of getting there early like that is that you will be one of the first served, and therefore able to get first picks! The selection of donuts rotates each day. There is not necessarily a schedule on which this occurs, but they might have a flavor today that they will not have tomorrow. Some of my favorites overtime have been the blueberry cake, pumpkin cake, cherry "sandwich" filled, sour cream, and so many more. I have asked the staff before if/when they would be making a particular kind, and they will let you know if they have an idea, so do not be afraid to ask. They sell cake donuts, regular donuts, long Johns, cinnamon rolls, and other speciality items each day. There are also donut holes, while are quite honestly some of the best I have ever tasted anywhere. They are usually warm and melt in your mouth. Do not leave without buying some if they are available. The value here is unbeatable. With the donuts being homemade and fresh, the prices are the best anywhere. They are even cheaper than somewhere like Dunkin, but the quality is 100 times better. This is probably another reason the people keep coming back for these delicacies. However, note that it is CASH ONLY! When I first started coming here, an older gentleman owned the place. He was so friendly and social to everyone who walked through the door. I always enjoyed interacting with him when I came by. A few years ago, a younger couple bought the business. However, the previous owner still works alongside them, which is cool to see! The new owners have been more consistent with being open during advertised open days, and are active on their Instagram account. This helps with knowing specials, when they sell out, if there is a change in being open, etc. Before, the days were sometimes hit or miss if they would be open. However, this has improved a lot since the new ownership has been in place. I love Better Maid - there truly is not a better cake donuts or donut hole anywhere I have tried in Pittsburgh. Plus, it is local people producing a handmade product, which is something everyone can get behind supporting. I just wish there were set hours sometimes, but that is part of the culture of the business. So, plan on brining your cash and waking up early for these delicious treats.

Naturally, I had to seek out a donut shop on the way in my quest to find not only the perfect donut in Pittsburgh... but the world. I looked for shops along the way and found the Corner Donut Shop, located at the corner of a strip mall on the McKeesport/White Oak border. It's open from 6 a.m. to noon, so I called ahead an order the day before knowing I wouldn't be able to pick up the donuts until about 11:30 a.m., figuring they would be low on options when I arrived. Surprisingly, there still were a decent number of options left when I stopped, but calling ahead an order was the right idea, since I was able to get exactly what I wanted. The shop itself was clean and had a solid variety. The seating area was blocked off because of Covid precautions, but looked like it would be a nice spot to hang out and have some coffee. Now for the donuts: Cake donut with vanilla frosting and sprinkles: Very soft, dense, and chewy, both the donut and frosting were mildly sweet. It felt like an upgraded Entenmann's donut. I prefer a cake donut with a crispy exterior, but this was still tasty. Cinnamon roll: The cinnamon roll is a special donut, not included as a part of a half dozen or dozen. It was quite large, soft, and had a subtle sweetness with a noticeably stronger cinnamon flavor than most other cinnamon rolls I've had. I enjoyed the strong cinnamon flavor, and would welcome other shops kicking up the cinnamon level in their cinnamon rolls. Vanilla cream filled: This was the sweetest donut of theirs that I tried, buoyed by a massive amount of vanilla cream. The actual donut itself was doused in powdered sugar and was a bit dry, but overall, it was balanced well by the cream filling. Toasted coconut cream: By far, this was the best donut I tried. Reminiscent of a coconut cream pie, the base is a raised donut, topped with vanilla cream and toasted coconut. The layered arrangement of the donut is unique, and avoids the common foible of cream popping out of the donut when you take a bite. The coconut was nicely toasted, and the vanilla cream was a perfect complement. If you visit this shop and like coconut, you need to try this donut. If I'm in the area, I would definitely visit the Corner Donut Shop for another toasted coconut cream donut and to try some other varieties. It's a solid little neighborhood donut shop with good variety, reasonably priced (I paid about $9 for a half dozen and a cinnamon roll). Check it out if you're in the area.
