Second time they were closed during 4th of July week. Finally got a chance to go there recently at 6am and got a dozen donuts, along with a coffee roll and coffee. Wanted to try it all. Unfortunately their chocolate-themed donuts are only available on Friday and Saturday, I believe they said. And for the ones like maple, need to special order ahead of time. Still got a ton of marshmallow donuts, an apple filled, lemon filled, some honey dipped, and a few others. Everything tasted amazing. The donuts are very much worth it for the price. I've been hearing about Donna's Donuts for years and now I get the hype. They are just classic, old school deliciousness - huge, so fresh, airy, perfectly glazed, not overly sweet and unlike a chain donut place I will not name that is on pretty much every corner in every town in the commonwealth, it does not leave a nasty film in your mouth from whatever chemical they coat them in. Server was so sweet and helped me make the monumental decision between glazed and coconut! (As a newbie, kept it simple and went glazed; coconut next time.) I understand that ownership has changed recently. That being said, I had my first bad experience at…read moreChanging Tides this past weekend. I'm a regular that comes in about once a month. We ordered food and two lattes around noon. One of the sandwiches came out in ten minutes. Another fifteen minutes went by with no other items from the order. Everyone who ordered after us received their coffees or food. When I asked one of the employees about it, she shrugged and said "sorry" and proceeded to turn her back to me in order to organize scones and remaining pastries. She then took an order for two americanos and made them immediately. At this point, I felt pretty offended and had been waiting about 30 minutes for two lattes and an açaí bowl (again, the BLT had come out in 10 minutes after the order was placed). I told the present employees that this behavior (the rudeness etc) sucked and asked for the rest of the order to be refunded. The staff had to get an older man from the back who was either the owner or the manager. He did refund the forgotten items from the order and told me lunch is a difficult time to come to Changing Tides as they don't handle orders well in the middle of the day. This experience made me really sad. I loved this place and I will not be returning.

In a place where la famiglia é tutto, they know how to greet you. We were invited in by the quintessential Italian signs as much as the complex aromas. The pastries were a delight, but it was me who was delighted by the Old World style adorning the newly renovated space. A mixture of textures, from wood to stone work to leather chairs helped create the ambiance, and the cathedral ceiling was highlighted by painted white rafters. Today I tried the spiral ham on brioche breakfast sandwich and a café Americano, and I got a pastry with cannoli filling to go. I'm not sure what I'll get next time, but I know this bakery is a recipe for something great about our country. I'm no Maine scholar, but I'm pretty sure the state motto: "Dirigo," translates to "The pastries are delizioso," (give or take.)
