Glenns Bay Dentists had been listed as "Best of the Beach", so when my son need some dental work, I…read morecalled and they took him in immediately. They put him on antibiotics and filled his cavities. I was so impressed, as I had not used them in the past, but they took care of my son like he was a patient all his life. Since that time, my son told me that he was very impressed with the dentist and how at ease he felt in his care. I think it was Dr. Cleary. Well my son went on and on about how much he liked the dentist. I felt great for taking him there. Recently, my husband began to have dental pain. He was anxious about going and what kind of care he would receive. I suggested we stop by the office and talk to them. The lovely receptionist said, "we have an opening at 3 PM today", and we took it. She then handed my husband forms to fill out, so he would be ready upon his return. My husband was leery about trying this dentist, as he never needed medical care here. I said, "You still have time to cancel if you wish". He didn't, and went to the appointment. He saw Dr. Goldberg, and when he came out, he was so impressed with the dentist and the care he was provided, he went on and on about it. I have not yet been to this office, but have taken my family members and paid the bills. Their prices are reasonable for their services provided. My family has been very happy with their treatments and are willing to go to Glenn's Bay Dentists without squalking any more.

Dr. Obenchain herself is excellent--professional, knowledgeable, and someone I trusted for my care…read moreover the past three years. Unfortunately, the billing office completely undermines that experience. After a routine visit on March 19, I received a bill right before leaving for a family vacation (April 3-17). When I returned, my entire family came down with COVID, which delayed me from going through my mail. As soon as I reviewed it, I immediately called and paid the balance on May 1. Despite that, I received a letter from the billing office claiming no payment had been made and stating I would now be required to pay in full at the time of service. The tone was unnecessarily harsh and accusatory, especially given my consistent history of paying my balances over the past three years. Including a policy as if I were unaware or negligent felt condescending and completely disregarded the reality that sometimes life happens. There was no attempt at understanding--just a blanket, impersonal response. It's unfortunate because the quality of care from the doctor is not reflected in how patients are treated on the administrative side. In the end, the billing office's approach was enough for me to take my care elsewhere. If you choose to go here, be aware: the medical care may be great, but the billing experience can leave a very different impression.

I reached out to the office and Kathy Terrell, the Office Manager and Patient Coordinator, responded immediately. She arranged an appointment for first thing Monday morning and took the time during our text exchange to check on whether I was in pain and offered helpful suggestions to prevent further discomfort. What truly stood out was that on Monday morning--before the office even opened--Kathy texted again to confirm the last-minute appointment time worked for me. Her responsiveness, professionalism, and genuine concern were exceptional and incredibly reassuring during a stressful situation. When I arrived at the office, I was greeted warmly by the team. After I shared that I hadn't been to a dentist in years due to severe dental anxiety, Chettele Hoyle, the dental assistant, immediately focused on helping me feel calm and comfortable. She suggested bringing a headset so I could listen to music and shared several thoughtful techniques to help ease my nerves. Her compassion and attentiveness made a huge difference. From the moment Dr. Alexis Patel entered the room, her calm and reassuring demeanor immediately put me at ease. She carefully walked me through the procedure step-by-step so I knew exactly what to expect. Her bedside manner was outstanding--gentle, patient, and incredibly reassuring. This entire team turned what could have been a very stressful experience into one that felt supportive, professional, and genuinely caring. I am incredibly grateful to Kathy, Chettele, and Dr. Patel for the outstanding care they provided. If you are looking for a dental office that truly prioritizes patient comfort, responsiveness, and exceptional care, I cannot recommend them highly enough.

We take what our patients say about us very seriously...." Yet here is his response when I tried to address a situation which occurred when, Karly a member of his staff, made an insurance error by telling me she did not have my current dental insurance policy information on file. Instead, she told me she had been processing claims on an old insurance policy the office had on record which terminated on 12/31/2022. 3 years ago! They did, in fact have my latest policy information, as the last 3 years claims went thru and paid Dr. Savage with no issues. We all know an insurance company isn't paying a dentist on any claim they may submit on a terminated policy. We also know if they didn't get paid, the dentist would have addressed the issue 3 years ago! She must have missed my current policy information somehow or read my file wrong. Instead of an apology, for her error, I got this. Mary, I had hoped we had moved on from September but insurance continues to dominate your dental care. I appreciate the kind words but these scenarios are the exact reason I have been 'out of network' with insurance for the last 13 years. To be honest dental insurance or a patients lack there of has absolutely no bearing on how I/we treat patients. If a patient is looking for the lower value care in regards to their health I gladly encourage them to seek care elsewhere as with anything it is not always a good fit. The back and forth becomes exhausting and the actual patient care becomes secondary and relationship(s) fractured. In regards to insurance we 'provide' a service to try and coordinate and explain patients individual plans but at the end of the day insurance companies do what they want. They provide less detail and make verification's for out of network offices harder because we have not contracted to their standard of care. All that being said we are not in the insurance business nor claim to be. If you are unhappy with any aspect of the care or how you were treated then in the most sincere way I think it would be best we part ways and you seek care elsewhere. I genuinely wish you the best and will make sure we forward your records per your request to the provider of your choice. DS Does this sound like a dentist who treats you well, doesn't want you to feel wrong or ashamed, and takes what you say very seriously? Is this what he means by great customer service? Dr. Savage tells you himself he is "not in the insurance business" and "If a patient is looking for the lower value care in regards to their health I gladly encourage them to seek care elsewhere as with anything it is not always a good fit." Since when did relying on insurance to keep costs down and wanting to be sure your dentist has correct policy information in their computer so you are not being over billed on your out-of-pocket costs become an indicator of wanting "lower value care?" Based upon the response which centers entirely around the insurance aspect, not his staff members error, and the fact that he asked me to seek coverage elsewhere, It appears to me that "To be honest dental insurance or a patients lack there of" actually does have "bearing on how" I/we treat patients". Keep this in mind if you ever consider seeking his services.
