From meat to chicken to pork sausages, these are some of the things you will find here. I have brought some sausages and cooked them at home. They tasted brilliant and I ended up having some hot dogs. I have also brought some chicken legs and thighs from here and used them to make a Thai Green Chicken curry. Again the chicken itself was excellent and I have no doubts I will be back. I do have to travel some way to get to Handsworth from West Bromwich but it is worth the travelling because I know I am guaranteed quality food from here. Staff are excellent which makes this place even better.

Had handmade lamb Koftas last week, as well at handmade burgers, these were tasty and good quality. The staff are excellent and make our weekly visit for the knowledge of our Butchers well worth the 5mile journey from Long Eaton. Very very sorry to hear that the Lamb Koftas are not available anymore and that the homemade burgers are being reduced in weight. please don't change anything, you service and helpfulness is exceptional.

Most of the meat is prepared on the premises and they even make their own sausages from time to time. Their beef and lamb mince is always of a really high quality, as you will see when you cook it and hardly any fat is created. Their best product, though, is their bacon, which is thick and very, very tasty. They also carry a selection of pies and pasties, smoked cheeses, plus sauces and condiments for cooking meat. In the summer they do an excellent range of meats for use on the BBQ. At Christmas and Easter time the queue is often out the door, and the shop is often busy on Saturday mornings, which should tell you that this is a place much admired by the locals round these parts. This is well worth a visit.
Before I start this review I should let you know that I know squat about butchers. However, if I've…read morelearned one thing over the years from various trips with my dad, it's that a good butcher has to be friendly; in fact they have to be positively jolly. That is certainly the case at G.A Lockhart where the staff provide such great interaction with the customers that it seems like something from the distant past, when high streets weren't clogged up with a thousand stores each an exact replica of the last. This is the butcher whom my family have used for years and I can confirm that every Sunday a piece of Lockhart meat has graced our table and satisfied a demanding family of brummies. I don't really know the price of meats etc, I mean as a student the closest thing I usually get to meat is a late night kebab, but Lockhart certainly seems reasonable and they provide good produce. A refreshingly friendly establishment with some delicious British meat on offer.

I'm a bit of a market novice when it comes to shopping for and actually buying meat and veg. I've…read moregot to be honest and admit that I've always watched the hustle and bustle of the markets in Birmingham from a safe distance. However, having a young family and in these financially challenged times, I thought I should bite the bullet and give it a go as an actual customer, rather than mere browser. Being the coward that I am, I went with my Mum for moral support. She knows what to look for when buying meat and veg. In these days of cellophane packaged supermarket goods, the market produce can seem very daunting. After some hints from Mum and watching her in action, I went for it at A P Doherty's. I wanted to write this review to recommend them because of the amazing deal we got. I think Ryan (the guy behind the counter) mistook my hesitancy for reluctance to spend, whereas I was trying to work out what he was talking about and whether I was getting good value. There are loads of butchers and poultry specialists but these guys gave great value. I got so much chicken and gammon for £20 that the bag burst carrying it to the car.

To begin with, I thought the shop was closed, but after peering into the elongated window, I saw customers inside. But I still couldn't find the door in! Next to the bewildering, hidden Sweetz entrance, there's a betting shop, which is quite out of place, considering how unusual the sweet store looks. However, at least I finally found the way in, squashed between William Hill and Argos. Hurray! With mission impossible completed, I could finally explore the most peculiar sweet shop that I've ever encountered. There is literally only room for two people to walk down the narrow shop, so once too many people have entered, you're likely to get stuck down the one end! The store sells a wide range of sweets in jars, most costing £1.70 for 100g (a little pricey I think), but there's also freshly made candy floss and syrups sold inside too. The syrups are funny, it's like buying a shot of alcohol, but instead, it's a shot of gooey flavoured sugar for kids.
