The good: we had dumplings and egg rolls as we weren't that hungry. Both were very tasty but no hoysin sauce for the egg rolls. The bad: they were out of several items. We ordered cocktails. Mine arrived in about 10 minutes. After another 10 minutes, our waiter informed us that they were out of one of the ingredients for my wife's Paloma. After another 10 minutes they brought her the same drink as mine. The waiters were very nice, but clueless. A far cry from service we've experienced elsewhere. Summary: if you want Chinese food in Oaxaca, this may be your best shot. Just be prepared to be there for a while. read more

I read the reviews on this place and thought I'd give it a try. The guy who said it was as good as he had in San Francisco? Seriously? I am from the Bay Area and could not disagree more. I ordered Kung Pao chicken. It was at least edible .. it was chicken, peanuts and poblano chili.... No carrots, no celery.... Did not taste at all like I know this dish is supposed to taste. But it was ok. I also ordered the pot stickers. The pork tasted rancid. I did not eat them. I mentioned this to the waitress but she left them on my bill. This completely substandard meal cost $410 pesos which makes it the most expensive and not worth it meal I have had during my month in Mexico....just don't. read more

I had pretty low expectations, but the food was tasty. Slightly different than what I'm used to, I'm guessing because of ingredient substitutions with what's available. It's nice if you want something different read more

This is the best Chinese restaurant I have tried. I came to Oaxaca from San Diego and found this gem of a restaurant. The dumplings are their specialty. The service is excellent and ambiance is relaxing. There are many Chinese restaurants in San Diego California but none as delicious as the dumpling house. I highly recommend. read more

I am here on holiday from Ajijic. We don't have very good Chinese food there. But we found the Dumpling House. Been back twice!!! Freshly made, fresh meat, fresh vegetables. Sauces are tasty and not overbearing. Very professional and courteous staff. Good pacing read more

Stopped in here because my parents couldn't find good Chinese food in Chapala, but this ended up better than many places I frequent in San Francisco There's an odd mix of Mexican and Chinese dishes on the menu, but all the Chinese dishes we tried were good: freshly made, with strong, authentic flavors. Our waitress said the chef is from Beijing. I particularly recommend the dumplings (potstickers), hundun (wonton) soup, and Kung Pao chicken. read more

I picked my table in the larger of two seating areas. The place was pretty busy and there was a little boy, whom I assume was family to someone working there. He was scurrying around the entrance and was quite loud, but not a big deal for me. The restaurant was rather plainly furnished with sparse decorations. I asked for the one free water that came with the buffet. The water actually tasted like lemonade, which I liked, but it wasn't just water. The buffet wasn't huge, but afforded many choices. I tried a little bit of almost everything available. I made two trips to the buffet, and certainly got my money's worth. My two opinions on the food were that many dishes were too salty, and nothing tasted fresh. None of the many items I tried wowed me. It was all just okay. I definitely take into account that I was eating from a buffet, along with the timing of my visit may have impacted the quality of many dishes. The trade off was the price, which was 175 pesos. The exchange rate on that day equated to $9.28 USD, which is a great value. I will likely return because of the price and hope for some fresher flavors.
