Kintaro is a beautiful space where you can actually eat great food and hold a conversation. You walk out feeling full and peaceful. The service is excellent. Friendly, not intrusive. They bring garafon (watercolor) water, not bottled, without any hassle (other places insist on selling you bottled water). Now the food. The rolls were excellent, with enough and good wasabi and ginger. We just ate a light dinner, so that's all we tried. Love this place. read more

Solid Japanese meal, wasn't expecting that in Oaxaca! The best part: Oaxaca is a lovely treasure hunt for street murals, and one of the interior rooms here aside the open plaza (aside: a lovely dinner setting) has an array of fantastical and funny and cartoonishly obscene murals inside. A well meaning Yelp reviewer from Boise gave a very offended 1-star review sharing her OUTRAGE that one of the murals contained swatsikas, apparently unaware of the positive original meaning of the Asian symbol before it was appropriated by the Nazis. The funniest part about her offended review is that she missed the depictions that really might be not kid-appropriate (stuff that typically is contained by undies). Anyway see if you spot the most lurid and netherregional items in the mural! read more

We had a great time at dinner until we noticed the swastikas all around us on the walls. We were horrified. We asked to speak to the owner. Her first response was, "swastikas, what swastikas?" I pointed them out. Then she told me that it was Japanese culture. I called BS on that. Then she told me that it's a famous Oaxacan artist who painted the mural before they established the restaurant and she would have to ask him if they could do something about it. I told her that I don't care if it's Picasso. (not that Picasso would have painted a swastika) If there's a swastika on your wall, you paint over it: artist be damned. If you don't mind eating around swastikas, be sure to go to this restaurant, although the ramen was super salty. Wait staff was A+. (They were also horrified by the swastikas and told me so, not that they have any power.) It's 2022. I don't think you have to be Jewish, Roma, Gay or disabled to be offended by a swastika. The owners were not impressed by my outrage. read more

My lady and I were here in Oaxaca for a five day vacation and so I could see the birthplace of her Padre. The first two nights we totally gorged ourselves on local Mexican cuisine - mostly mercado and street vendors - so no reviews to be had there. However, Saturday night we needed something different so we decided to look for a good sushi spot. After walking about 2 1/2 miles to different locations that were either closed or no longer in business, we decided to head to Kintaro, which was about a half a block away from our Airbnb. Couldn't have made a better decision! it is extremely beautiful from an architectural standpoint and the service and food matched. We had a couple of different things on the menu with the highlight for me being the Shoyu Ramen. Definitely a very strong representation of good Ramen and sushi. Would definitely recommend checking this spot out if you want authentic ramen and sushi in a upscale atmosphere with great service. read more

Didn't expect to find the best fried rice EVER in Oaxaca. This Japanese restaurant is delicious. Even better, it has a beautiful courtyard and lovely ambiance. The waiters are truly friendly and kind. The gyoza were also excellent. Fried rice with shrimp $95P. Try it. read more

Being in Oaxaca for a month I needed to taste something else other than Oaxaca food. This place took me there. The dishes were so tasty good we also ordered deserts. Had the teriyaki chicken platter as appetizers, the cold noodles, the curry chicken and white rice, and Japanese style pork over rice. There are also ramen noodles too. For desert we had the mousse, leche ice cream, and green tea ice cream. All of it was really good and nothing like all the foods we'd had for a month so a welcome taste. Service was excellent too. Waitresses were very attentive and genuinely friendly. Highly recommend this place. read more
