The flavor is not enjoyable, even though I like all the vegetables that went into it. That being said, the texture of the rice roll is great - the custard buns have such a gritty filling that it totally eclipses how delicious the bao dough is. The filling flavor and sweetness is good. Idk why they keep sabotaging themselves with these almost-good dishes - they will bring out dishes as they're ready, which meant I was served desserts before savory dishes - you'll need to request a spoon for certain rice roll dishes; the fillings poured out when you tried to eat them

It is a small restaurant with indoor seating and I did notice that there were a lot of DoorDash / to go orders going out. As we were one of the few people dining in, we were seated right away and put in our orders. It only took a few minutes for the food to come out hot and fresh. I decided to try the shrimp wonton soup as it looked very comforting for a chilly day. Starting with the broth, it has a nice, richly seasoned chicken flavor. The noodles here are very long but maintain a chew which is perfect for slurping. The greens were a little on the tough side as my personal preference would be for it to be a bit tender to bite into and eat. The soup have a good quantity of both the shrimp and the wontons. The shrimp was cooked to perfection, while the wontons were soft and packed with flavor. Overall, I would love to come here again and try different items on the menu!

We had most of the staples and everyone liked the food, from the grandparents on down to the grandkids. I found the food to be quite authentic and tasty, so Ming's Tasty gets five Yelp stars from me. We ate a variety of different items including steamed BBQ pork buns, pan-fried turnip cake, steamed bean curd skin rolls, chicken feet with Peking sauce, pork ribs in black bean sauce, beef omasum with ginger and scallions, sticky rice with minced pork in lotus leaf, deep-fried taro "turnovers," pork and shrimp dumplings (siu mai), steamed shrimp dumplings (har gow), Chiu Chow dumplings (fun guo), BBQ pork rice noodle rolls, shrimp rice noodle rolls, Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, and more. Yum. Ming's Tasty is located in the heart of Oakland's Chinatown and opened in 2018.

Turned out they were headed my way and 30 minutes later, we met up and ended up having dinner here. Synchronicity- Check! It was a perfect Spring day and since we had the dog with us, we were seated outside and in the sun. We started with a white wine and ordered shrimp toast, scallion noodles that came with a fried egg, shishito peppers, chili pork and garlic dumplings and an assortment of dumplings- all of it I cannot even name. All I'm sure of that as the dishes were coming out one by one, they were beautifully presented, and every portion that I had for myself was amazing. And this wasn't even the alcohol talking-- it was pure love of the flavor that I was experiencing in my mouth. Not only were we sitting in the setting sun's warmth and glow, but we were having catch-up conversation and enjoying our meal. It was just perfect. Now the food. First was the shishito peppers. Flavor-10/10. Scallion noodles: 10/10. Shrimp toast-- please don't judge me, but the first thing I was thinking of WTF is a shrimp toast? But I was open to everything. That happened to be one of my most favorite items of this meal. It was crispy bread with flattened shrimp inside and there was a spicy mayo dip on the side and oh my God-- that was just bomb city! Then came with the XLB combo, soup dumplings and my favorite one was the tom yum. They were all soup dumplings and each one was a delectable perfect on its own and no side dishes needed. Food- Amazeballs. Ambience- hello, 4th St Berkeley vibe. Service- friendly and helpful! Returning? Goddamn right I am!!!

We waited about 15 minutes after putting our names on the waitlist, and no one greeted or seated us even though the waitress saw us. Another party even had to flag down a waitress, which was surprising since there were only a 3 tables occupied but 2 servers on the floor. We were eventually seated, though. As for the food, the seared bao wasn't fully pan-fried and tasted pretty plain. The wagyu XLB seemed freshly made, but the flavor could definitely be improved. My favorites ended up being the string beans and the sweet and spicy wings, which aren't even their main focus. The wings were crispy on the outside and still juicy inside, definitely the highlight of the meal. The restaurant is located at a nice area but the food needed to be worked on.

We also ordered the turnip cakes, shu mai, chicken feet, honey walnut shrimp, and sticky rice in lotus leaf (which they did not cheap out on and loaded it with Chinese sausage and salted egg, which most places leave out). Believe it or not, the highlight of our meal was their water. Their water has a clean, refreshing, lemony essence to it, so it just goes to show you how much they value attention to details.

Whether you're in town for jury duty, work, or play, here is a good lunch spot. I walked into Aberdeen Café during the lunch hour. Booths lined the wall on one side, and the bar was on the other. Korean pop music played softly while other customers ate lunch. I was seated at the booth and was served a glass of water to start. I got the #2015 Salt and Pepper Fish Filet lunch special with hot and sour soup of the day, egg roll, and substituted-in fried rice. I was served the hot and sour soup first. It was a wonderful appetizer. The classic spicy pepper and sour vinegar were balanced. The bits of crunchy mushroom and soft tofu added interest and texture to the thick broth. This was comfort in a bowl. The entree was delicious. The fried fish was hot off the wok when it arrived, steaming on the plate along with fried rice, broccoli, an egg roll, and some sweet and sour sauce. I enjoyed the fish; the heat of the jalapeno slices and the salt elevated the light crispiness and mild sweetness of the fish. The fried rice was light and fluffy with bits of egg. The sauteed broccoli had a solid crunch, and the vegetable egg roll was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. This was a good, satisfying lunch at Aberdeen Café. When I'm in the mood for comforting Cantonese food again, I'll be back for more.
