A Hidden Gem Worth Leaving the Turnpike For! After making…read morethe drive between Northern Virginia and Ohio for more than 20 years, we couldn't believe we had never discovered Out of the Fire Café before. Anyone who regularly travels the Pennsylvania Turnpike knows how hard it is to find a truly memorable place to eat. This one is absolutely worth the short detour. The atmosphere is charming, the view is beautiful, and the food exceeded every expectation. We had to try their famous mushroom soup, and even though I'm not normally a mushroom fan, it was hands-down one of the best cups of soup I've ever had. The smoked salmon salad was fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. My husband ordered the Filet Mignon Sandwich special, and every bite was packed with incredible flavor. Our server was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. She made us feel right at home and added to what was already a wonderful dining experience. We finished with the Bananas Foster. While it wasn't the tableside flaming presentation you'd find at a fine-dining restaurant, the flavor was outstanding and the perfect ending to a fantastic meal. We'll definitely be making Out of the Fire Café a tradition on our future trips. If you're traveling the Pennsylvania Turnpike, do yourself a favor and make the stop--you won't regret it!

The mushroom soup was a big hit, as was the burger. Salads were fresh and portions were all generous. The only reason for reducing a star is service--our server was incredibly slow and nonchalant. We were there for a good 2 hours and all the folks around us finished way before us. Would go back if I'm in the area.

We sat on the patio and Jojo was our server - she was such a sweetheart. I ordered a gin and tonic with infused watermelon cucumber gin (delicious) and the chicken italiano. Chicken was seasoned perfectly, pasta side was incredible, roasted vegetables picked from their garden were delicious. My coworkers got the filet, wagu beef tacos, and the seasonal sweet and sour salad. Everyone left satisfied and happy. So much so that we not only recommended all of our other coworkers to go here, but we came back two days later. When we came back, we ran into our coworkers at the bar. We sat outside on the patio and had another incredible meal once again served by the delightful Jojo. I had many more gin and tonics with infused gin and the wagu tacos. My coworkers got crab cakes, the chicken italiano, and filet. Everyone was once again satisfied and happy. It came to closing time and Jojo locked up the front door, turned on the patio lights, and continued serving us. She let us stay out back talking and drinking for 2 hours past closing. It was such a delightful night and I cannot recommend this place enough. Service was incredible, ambiance was wonderful, and the food was delicious. My coworkers and I came from out of town but we all expressed the desire to come back, have another incredible meal, and see Jojo again. It was only after the first time we went that we realized the important work Major Stokes does for the community. The sustainability efforts and work they do with nonprofits is extremely commendable and only made us love them more. I don't write Yelp reviews, but this place was so exceptional that I had to.

My accompaniment had the chicken Alfredo which was good as well but both just needed I tad salt. My eyes feasted on the artwork will my mouth feasted on the plate before me! Btw, pretty plates! Our waitress was very friendly. I was able to find metered street parking right in front of the restaurant, however, it was Monday afternoon. As far as cleanliness, it didn't smell very fresh when I walked in but the tables, floors and cushions looked clean. The chairs did look like they needed a good scrub!

Located in a strip plaza with…read morevarious shopping places, it had the vibe of a local diner but with menu choices that were not-so-ordinary. The service was outstanding -- helpful but not intrusive. The bad news is that because I was meeting a friend that I had not seen in a long time, I was so involved with our conversation that I completely forgot to take menu pictures or even food pictures -- the horror! We started our food adventure here with one of the seasonal specialties -- the "Yammin Kegs" -- which looked like a rather large tater tot -- but made of sweet potatoes with cinnamon and maple. The serving had about eight, a shareable size. They were quite good on their own, but it was the bourbon caramel sauce on the side that turned this into more of a dessert where ordering another was very tempting. For the entree, the seasonal soup and salad, a red pepper and gouda soup and a grilled provolone and American cheese sandwich made with sourdough caught my attention. Although seemingly ordinary, it was anything but that. The soup had enough of a bite from the red pepper to keep it out of the bland, and the sandwich was toasted perfectly with the right amount of crunch to counter the gooey-cheese. I don't know -- maybe it was being together with a good friend and the conversation that made this simple meal stand out -- but it did and that's going to stay with me. This will be a visit-again place the next time I'm in the area.

We drove up to this strip plaza and walked into what we expected as a local diner. We were greeted and seated to a mostly empty place. Menu was very large with tons of options and a special menu. Kids ordered the breakfast specials and the rest of the travellers had an omelette, soup and sandwich, country fried steak and some sort of beef on a pita. Food came out quickly, hot and everyone loved their meal. My chicken fried steak was fabulous and the bread the offered seemed to be homemade. It's a dinner in the middle of nowhere but the quality and quantity far exceeded our expectations. Ambiance is what you expect for a place in the middle of small town USA. Amazing place is you are coming back from visiting one of Frank Wright's POI.

Kind of a cross between a sports bar with TVs and projector screens, as well as dark walls and dark wood dining. It was pretty quiet when we were there - kind of weird being a weekend evening, We started with some appetizers: bruschetta, steak egg rolls, and fried pepperoni. The bruschetta was good - executed properly and textbook. The bread was toasted but a soft bite - just the right amount of tomato and balsamic. The steak egg rolls were also very good - had a kick with cherry peppers inside. Comes with ranch as a dipping sauce. The fried pepperoni was different. The breading struggled to stay on the pepperoni but it was good overall. For my entree I went with the red chicken parm. It comes with pasta (billed as made from Scratch) and red sauce. There were two hamburger-sized chicken pieces, breaded with cheese and a small amount of sauce on top. I felt like the cheese on the top was scarce - should be more. Upon first bite, I was throttled with the flavor of salt, heavy heavy salt. I tried the other piece and the same. I don't mind salt items but this breading reminded me of overuse of the chicken seasoning pack in ramen, and was just over the top. Pasta was ok. For dessert - since I didn't eat much of the entree, I went with the chocolate cake. Holy hell it's massive. The picture doesn't really do it justice. It was immense. Cake was good - though kind of dry at times. Our waitress was nice - attentive and responsive to us throughout the meal. Would try again - I would say really this is closer to a 3 than a 4 but. Whichever.
