Mary Jane is a wonderful woman, who has served the community of Olivehurst for a long time. Olivehurst "Food Not Bombs" has no problem supporting Duke's and our unhoused community is a huge fan. Restaurant was packed and we had to wait for a table. Understandably we had to wait quite a while for our meal but we expected it to be hot and fresh, it wasn't. The omelette was over cooked and barely warm, topped with a slice of unmelted American cheese . The biscuits were good and white gravy was good except for the flavorless hamburger in it. Hash browns were good, coffee was watery, the salsa was the star of the show and the only thing that we really enjoyed. Bathroom was clean and the dining room was too. Duke's Dine has been an institution of fine dining in the Olivehurst, CA dining scene since 1962 for many reasons, including excellent diner cuisine, great prices, along with fast and friendly service. No wonder that Duke's Diner is one of the most popular breakfast and lunch destinations in the greater Marysville area! As you enter the restaurant, you'll notice it's an "old school" diner, complete with a counter, booths, all of which feature vinyl upholstery, and a few tables in the middle. Duke's Diner features a vintage counter that is most likely unchanged since the restaurant opened it's doors, back in 1962. The decor is pure "Americana," circa the 1960's. As you enter the restaurant, a white board posts the daily special. Today's special was BLT with avocado, fries, soup or salad, along with desert. I was tempted by the posted special, but I was in the mood for a burger. As our server took our orders, she also told us about today's special, but that didn't change my mind. My friend is a GIGANTIC fan of breakfast, so she ordered "Sausage and Eggs" from the "Breakfast Special" section of the menu. The menu describes this fine choice as, "Breakfast Special includes 2 eggs, potatoes, 2 strips of bacon or 2 link sausages, choice of biscuit and gravy or toast." Duke's Diner is open for breakfast and lunch, and anything on the menu is available anytime the restaurant is open. Since my friend is a HUGE fan of breakfast, even though it was nearly 1:00 in the afternoon, she went with breakfast. I was tempted to order from the breakfast menu, but I just HAD to have a burger... She loved her two link sausages, which were perfectly cooked, scrambled eggs, a generous portion of hashbrown potatoes, along with biscuits and gravy. She commented that everything was perfect, and I could vouch for that, as her "lunch" both looked and smelled amazing. I took a sample of a biscuit and gravy, and I can tell you it was simply amazing. We're talking about a fresh, in-house made biscuit along with rich sausage gravy, with lots of chunks of sausage. From the "Lunch Menu," I ordered the "Deluxe Burger." The menu describes this fine burger as "1/4 pound all beef patty, served with onion, lettuce, tomato and pickles." You also get your choice of regular fries, steak fries or onion rings. Tough decision, but I went with steak fries. The quarter-pound beef patty was cooked perfectly medium, which is the way I love my beef. I "assume" the chef would have cooked it order if you asked? The beef patty was placed on a fresh, lightly toasted with butter, sesame seed bun. Fresh lettuce, onion, tomato and dill pickle slices were placed on the side. There was also a small cup of mayonnaise. Condiments on the table included ketchup and mustard. I LOVE it when restaurants serve your burger with garnishes on the side, as I love to "customize" my burger. In my cased, I added the mayonnaise, some mustard, and piled all the fresh vegetables on my burger, and totally enjoyed my dining experience. The steak fries were simply amazing, as they were lightly deep fried to a perfect golden brown on the outside, and chewy tender on the inside. Our friendly server, Kelly, asked me if I'd like a cup of ranch dressing on the side, and I gladly took her up on her offer. Simply amazing! The price of this amazing burger, along with a large helping of steak fries? $6.35!! That's less than you'd pay at a fast food restaurant, and the burger, along with the fries, are custom cooked by the skilled chefs, and unique to Duke's Diner. Only been here two or three times before, but never did a review so here we go. First impressions - old building on a side street in a little town. Non-assuming, not much parking for as popular a place as it is. This place is an O-town staple since forever. Walking in, it's the typical diner decor, but maybe a little run down looking, floor a little greasy. Nothing jumps out as noticable, lots of random pictures and plaques all over the place. But let's be honest, most people don't go to home in the wall places for the ambiance, do they? Two things are special about this place - the food, and the service. The waitresses are super duper attentive and friendly. Their excellent service made the whole experience better, and was disarming and calming to me, so when a problem arose (more on that later) I didn't feel like a jerk for bringing it up. The cups were always full, the table cleared quickly. So - the food - I got the "breakfast plate" special, which was one biscuit and gravy, home style potatoes, two eggs, and two pieces of bacon. I also ordered a "hamburger steak" on the side, and a cup of coffee. First - home style potatoes - excellent! Great flavor and seasoning, nice crispy edges, peppers and onions mixed in. Really good! Second - biscuit - super fluffy! Most biscuits I get at these diners are dense and dry, not this one. It was like a lightly chewy little cloud. It felt fresh baked, and had a great flavor and texture that was only enhanced by the ...... Third - gravy - standard thick white saucy stuff. No sausage or bacon in it. Smooth texture, but nothing to write home about. It did the trick with the biscuit, its just too bad it didn't have a little more somethin somethin to it. Not bad, just ok. Fourth - eggs - cooked perfectly over easy. Not rubbery or burned. Good job guys! Fifth - bacon - this is where they stumbled a little. Its hard to screw up bacon. It tasted good, but texturally it was rubbery and a little floppy, almost as if it was turkey. Also, it was room temperature. I think they had cooked a large batch and let it sit for a couple hours before putting it on the plate. Sixth - hamburger steak - let's be honest, a steak it wasn't. This was a hamburger patty straight up, topped with some peppers and onions. Which isn't a bad thing, but other places serve a hamburger steak that's larger, thicker, seasoned almost like a meatloaf, often with a brown gravy. That's not this. Once I got past that I noticed it was really, really well done. Took a couple bites... Yeah this thing was just burnt. Bitter Ash taste, bleh. The good thing though is when I asked, they remade it for me, and the second one was perfectly cooked. Nice brown crust, not black. Still needed some salt and pepper, but much better than the first. Probably won't order it again though. So, to sum up.... Pluses - home style potatoes, eggs, biscuits are a must! Great job! Service was great, too! Minuses - greasy floor, plain hamburger patty masquerading as a hamburger "steak", plain gravy, cold bacon. read more

We were in the area picking something up, and wandered off on Olivehurst Ave, looking for lunch spot. We spotted Dukes, and I am so glad we did. Had a HUGE delicious burger with old-fashioned crinkle fries that was big enough for 2. And hubby had their breakfast specialty: biscuits topped with hash browns topped with sausage gravy topped with their homemade chili. OMG I would never have thought to combine those but it was a match made in Heaven. The service was super friendly and quick. Open daily from 5:30am to 2 pm. We WILL be back! I nick-named my best buddy Duke - So how could we not hit this highly-rated place up? It is also in Olivehurst and my cat is named Olive, so really I had no choice. If you are a "city-slicker" like myself be prepared that Olivehurst is a pretty lackluster town -- this place is not too far off the highway. The Yelp reviews said to be sure and get the chili. We showed up around 12:30 pm and got a booth immediately - the very weird 1/2 booth in the front really that has two seats that face the outside - with no seats on the opposite. I always ask places for a LARGE glass of Ice water - and BOY did this place deliver, it was the size of a Super Big Gulp (do I need a registered trademark here?) - LOVED IT!, and in a to -go glass too boot!! SERVICE HERE WAS EXCELLENT I asked the gal what were her favorites on the menu and she said the cheese steak and the BBQ beef sandwich - but she said to be sure and substitute Onion Rings - that they were home-made and beer battered (MY FAVORITE KIND). They were VERY GOOD onion rings - and she offered up some ranch dressing as a dipper. The sandwich was okay, nothing super special. My man got the Huevos Rancheros with chili on top (with Home fries). He loved it - for me it was too many green and red peppers that were not fully integrated. Dukes Diner is a great not so hidden gem in Olivehurst. It's a mid size diner style restaurant that has a lot of old time charm. You can watch the kitchen from The store front window which kids seem to enjoy. We went on a Sunday morning so the place was busy. When we were seated I looked up the pictures on yelp and saw that a lot of people had the chili smothered breakfast burrito, which is what my wife and I chose to share. It was delicious and hearty. The chili was the star, it was brainless and full of flavor. On the side was home fries which was big chunks of potato and peppers. All in all we will definitely be going back to bring my in-laws so we can try other items on the menu. Price wise it ran us around 9 dollars before tip. read more

I ordered the chili omelet and it was flowing with tasty chili. The other order was biscuit, gravy and eggs. The biscuit was HUGE and the gravy very flavorful. When I have lunch meetings I am looking for good food, good environment, good price. This is the trifecta. I had the lunch special that included an avocado BLT, macaroni salad and a lemon bar for dessert. The toast was crispy and wasn't overloaded with butter to get it crispy. The bacon was really good and the avocado added that extra texture that made the sandwich fun to eat. I loved the macaroni salad. I'm not sure what was in it that made it unique, but this wasn't a grocery store salad. It was really creamy and good. I cleaned my entire plate before turning to dessert. The lemon bars were fresh, still warm, and so flavorful! I like it when lemon bars have both a solid crust (admittedly my favorite part) and a really lemony filling. This lemon bar was both and my taste buds were thrilled! I'd also like to mention I had great service. Right now as restaurants recover from COVID impacts they are having troubles hiring. No sign of that for me today. Service was friendly and quick. They also had to clean around us as we stayed all the way to closing. Highly recommend you give them a chance.
