When we came to buy some coffee grounds, a barista gave us a short cupping sesh to help us choose. Ended up buying a Guatemalan filter blend! They also have Uppercups in stock here! I visited on a particularly brisk morning and it was so beautifully cosy inside. Hidden in the busy laneway foot and vehicular traffic of Flinders Lane is Duke's Coffee Roasters. The first thing that hits you when you enter the shop with just a coffee cup sign is the aromatic fragrance of Coffee Beans being roasted. Whether you like a Macchiato or Caffe Latte or may be the humble Cappuccino, its like sipping a bit of heaven. Of all the times I have had coffee here (which is a lot of times), I have never had burnt milk or acidic coffee or too frothy.. its always PERFECT. They are both a great roaster and socially conscience as well. I have bought numerous bags of coffee from them ranging from light, medium to dark roasts and you really can taste the difference. In a city that has so many roasters, I am a repeat customer because they source directly from the farmers and know exactly where their coffee comes from and how it's been treated. I respect that extra step and will gladly help fund that as a repeat customer. They also have great treats to go with your coffee. They are very busy, but you can always find a chair during non-peak hours. read more

Melbourne, the capital of coffee snobs, is never short of amazing coffee shops, and Dukes is one of them. It's situated in the center of Melbourne CBD, and tucked in a smaller street from the chaotic business centers. Small store and the most customers come and goes. They do have some seatings along the wall but won't be a good option for claustrophobic folks. read more

As I was looking for the Melbourne City Library I walked past Dukes. Originally, I almost didn't go in, though as I glanced into the quaint little shop front, I couldn't resist. I ordered a soy latte, no sugar. Though the lovely barista thought I said 1 sugar. Unfortunately I was to shy to say otherwise. I also should've ordered a coffee to have in, rather than a takeaway- as while I was waiting a saw the pretty latte art that was being created. Also, there weren't many seats available when I ordered, though once mine was ready some people left and I was able to stay in. Which I was happy to sit and read while enjoying the culture around me. read more

One of my favoured places to stop by for a take away coffee in the city. It's always busy but I've found the staff to be friendly and quick without compromising quality. With few seats on offer it's more suited to take away or a quick espresso rather than long catch ups with friends over a large latte but that doesn't mean it isn't worth a visit - especially if you can nab the table in the window for some serious people watching. read more

There was quite a few customers inside, so we decided to give it a go not knowing which place to go. Ordered an iced latte from here and I did not see the differences compared to other places. It was typical, but I guess I am comparing them to the USA..the only difference was the higher price for the latte. Customer service was good, but the 3 star is for the taste. read more

I think that dukes at the end of degraves sums up Melbourne perfectly. A tiny little coffee store found under some scaffolding that would be best described as a hidden gem! The only thing that sucks a bit is the lack of seating because it's an awesome place to relax and enjoy multiple coffees. I love a good long black and this was right up there with the best I have had. It's so peaceful and quaint just an awesome place to forget that you're in the hustle and bustle of the city. The staff were super friendly and happy to help in any way. Overall it's a winner don't expect a table, but your experience will double if you do happen to get one! read more

After months of passing through flinders St I've been hoping to find fantastic coffee I could grab between train connections. Glad to say I finally found it! This place is short walk through the underpass from the station into flinders lane. Such a great choice of fantastic coffee and we've even started taking their beans home to drink their roast. Love at first sip. Although there's the hustle and bustle of big city life outside, (not to mention a buttload of scaffolding and construction out front) walking into Dukes feels like walking into a secret hideaway filled with pillowy clouds of crema and milkfroth. Its a little dark and a little mysterious, a perfect combination of sleek city and old-world decor(who doesn't love staring at beautiful tile flooring while waiting for caffeine?). The coffee was delicious, smooth, simple. A cube of pistachio nougat is the perfect accompaniment. read more

I went in today and got a latte.. It was very good and the staff is quite nice. The pastries looked fantastic but did not try any.

Good coffee. Try to avoid during busy periods as it gets really cramped (if you're having your coffee in).

The drip coffee is just weak and gross. And the baristas are super douchey. I understand coffee purism, but I was trying to salvage the weak drip of coffee with some cream, and the barista flat-out refused me. How rude! The interior, however, is absolutely lovely. read more

Melbourne definitely knows its coffee, in fact, they might have more coffee shops per-capita than Seattle. Cute little, hole-in-the-wall place in the CBD, so it can be tight inside. Standard selection of espresso drinks as well as single origin pour-overs. read more

Well well well didn't I find a little gem this morning on my way to work!! This little coffee heaven hidden in a small little corner of Flinders Lane could easily be missed if it wasn't for the queue that went out the door and the attractive black sign with a coffee cup staring straight at me! Although I was in a rush this morning, how could I miss out on a coffee that was worth queuing for at 8:30 in the morning (as you can probably guess, I am not a morning person). To my great relief, the line moved extremely fast as the legendary staff whipped out coffees like machines yet you would never even suspect that they were stressed or overwhelmed. The coffee was toasty, smooth and silky @ the perfect strength to give me the kick I needed to get into gear today. WOW amazing will definitely be a regular on this block now! read more

Fabulous! Love this place. Coffee is superb and I am partial to the almond paste stuffed almond croissant, yum-o! Can't go wrong here, I have never had a bad coffee. I visit a much as I can despite my work being on the other side of town (they are open Saturdays though). One suggestion for improvement if I may, a few staff can be a bit friendlier, just nice smile will do it. read more
