Clement is a trendy little hole-in-the-wall at South Melbourne Market. Equipped with cute baristas, excellent coffee and delicious sweets, it's no wonder there is always a line on market days. Being a Saturday, I was hungover and craving carrot cake and a good almond milk latte. Surprisingly, I perused several cafes before finally finding the elusive carrot cake - and an excellent piece it was. Spicy, moist yet still fluffy, it was delicious; although I'm not sold on the too-sweet orange cream cheese frosting. It worked as a whole, but my preference would have been less sugar and perhaps lemon. Still hit a few spots. The coffee was just what I needed - almond milk co milk and great beans. It complemented the carrot cake perfectly and set me in motion to do a bit of groceries for the week ahead. The only downfall here is the price: a coffee and a slice of cake cost me $12! Any savings from the markets have gone into this afternoon treat. read more

What do you get when you cross cute and coffee? Clements! I've been to many coffee shops in my lifetime. Some where good and some were terrible. Some may even fall into the category of not being worthy of being mentioned. Clements sets up a new category, and that is cute. It is not often a shop, quite small and humble as Clements, could create a new category but in this rare instance it does. Clements' coffees are divine. The latte that I had the pleasure of having during my time there was smooth, great tasting and blasting full of flavor! Every sip was a delight and by the time I've sipped the cup dry I was definitely left wanting more. Overall, Clements is a delight to all coffee lovers. Everything is just wonderful. From the coffee to the very close market near the shop it is definitely a place you'd want to stop by if you're near. read more

This pop-up is right around the corner from my work and even as a Deadman/St Ali regular, I've been converted. The changing blends are really interesting and both Kris and the other baristas really know what they're talking about. They offer two blends each week, one lighter and one more full bodied. The coffee is exceptional quality and YAY! they use Bonsoy (which scores points in my book). Clement is open even when the markets aren't, and they have the most tempting tiny cabinet of treats that stare you down as you walk in. It's a tiny space but hopefully they stick around for a long time! Mini coffee is about $3, and they offer a discount for people who work nearby. So... I'm sold. read more

When travelling to Melbourne, I asked coffee buddies for a list of "cannot miss" coffee places. Clement was one of these. Disappointment descended when, being located in South Melbourne Market, I realised I wouldn't be able to make it to South Melbourne during market days. Good thing Clement is open on non-market days and I can tick "Clement Coffee" off my coffee bucket list and if I were local, it'd hands down become at least a weekly spot to sip a cup of the sweet, sweet, golden exlir they brew. Like others have said this isn't a mill around and soak up the atmosphere kind of spot. Although, do take a moment to admire the mural on the wall and roof. It reminds me of a Kate Tucker painting. The Clement boys have limited space, and while they make the most of it, there's room enough to place your order and scoot. Still, their bounding personalities make sure you get enough of a buzz while you're in their presence. read more

I always hear rave about this place, so I decided to try this out on my most recent trip to the South Melbourne Market. Its a small shop front, but it has exactly what you need.... a Coffee machine, from Expresso to drip to areopress! Pony Blend, It s a nice a smooth blend. I tried to out on the expresso and then bought myself the ground to use for my french press. And it was both really nice, producing a really nice smooth coffee taste. and the smell... mmm its nice. read more

Came here looking for a caffeine and sugar hit after a long morning in the office. My long black had a nice thick crema and came with sparkling water. Plus there is a nice selection of baked goods. Cute little store front and outdoor seating. I could see the place being a bit noisy when the South Melbourne Markets are on but a little noise doesn't hurt, just not when I'm mentally dying from work. I did have to wait for the staff to finish their chat with a friend (which I found more irritating at the time as I was tired), and there are plenty of yuppie conversations that made the folk of sydney's eastern suburbs seem non pretentious. Yes, another five star review. I actually stumbled in here on the first day of trade, which was quite good. Kris is warm and welcoming on my second visit. I got a black coffee, half way between a double espresso and long black. This time from their house roast, and as is to be expected; excellent. Fourth day of trade and signs are good; they're already up on broadsheet.com. Again a great place to hang out, and watch thing transpire. It's a little small. read more

The baristas at Clement are slinging some of the best coffees in Melbourne. Me and my picky Frenchman were seriously impressed by the quality and execution on offer here. The sleek fit-out of the little bolt-hole shop won me over immediately. The crowning glory of the space is the gorgeous Spirit Triplette. Holy moly, that baby is undoubtably the ferrarri of espresso machines. We sat outside to drink our bevvies (a long black and a short mac) and enjoyed watching the crowds milling about the market. The super friendly counter dude chatted with my coffee geek husband for a few minutes and then came outside to give us a free short black. Instant kudos for that! The coffee scene in Melbourne just keeps getting better and better. read more

I keep hearing how great coffee is in Melbourne but I am having a hard time finding any, until Clement that is. I like soy or nut milk cappuccinos but most places just can't froth the soy milk and the soy they use I think ruins the espresso and there is too large of a ratio of it to the espresso. Clement uses almond milk and just the right ratio of it to the espresso. If I was a local I would drink there often. read more

Stopped by the Melbourne market for some shopping and ran across this store and had to stop. Cutest little coffee shop and the food was delicious. The sandwiches there totally hit the spot for me and the lemon tart was beautiful. Would totally recommend if you are at the market. Everything got packaged nicely for me when I was doing take away as well. read more

Great place to stop by and grab a solid cup of coffee. The place has a nice chill, very open feel to it. I love how cozy it is and honestly, the openness of it. There is plenty of seats available on the outside patio, which was inviting. Solid coffee, warm baristas and incredible space. read more

Just what Melbourne needs- another run-of-the-mill hipster wank coffee shop. As a South Melbourne local, living in the area and a long standing hospitality worker, I must admit I had high expectations of a new coffee spot that has the audacity to sell basically only coffee for a steep $4 a cup after being open a matter of months ( & offering no tea alternative for my non coffee drinking friend I brought along) The milk tasted like a mixture of soy and regular, the coffee was watery and had coffee granules as I drunk- needless to say i took a few sips and left. Even though it's not in my habits to complain- there were no waiters around to tell. It was as though they gave me left over milk, ran short and topped it up with hot water. As a teacher of hygiene I was also seriously disturbed by the lumpy sugar bits in the open sugar bowl, where it was hopefully only a case of wet coffee spoon being double dipped The one star is for the nice decor and cute umbrellas I must also make mention of the elderly lady with the two handed walking sticks who also sat down alone and wasn't served- for $4 a cup you would at least expect some service!!! Especially when it costs around 10c worth of ingredients to make a coffee. My advice- save yourself the trouble of supporting another soul-less hipster pretentious cafe's existence and go to Simply Spanish or Bunyip and have amazing food and table service and coffee for only $3 a cup Or better yet give the $4 to one of the young kids busking violin at the market read more

Very annoyed at inconsistency. Just got some takeaways and the way the girl pouring the milk literally poured it in like it was water into a bucket, that should have warned me. The coffee had old grounds taste in it, the filter basket hadn't been cleaned for sure. I really resent paying $8.80 for 2 reg coffees that taste like an old cigarette with no milk texturing. It's worth walking 5 mins up to the st to St Ali, who although part of their "family" always provides consistently fantastic coffee. Give them a miss. read more
