The individuals at the frontdesk, in charge of the office running smoothly are rude and offer the poorest customer service I've ever dealt with when it comes to dental/health care. Some of the doctors (Dr. Lewandoski) are not focused on providing good dental care due to incompetence. In the last 3 years this clinic has placed an emphasis of making money by providing substandard dental care. I had to find another dental clinic to have my teeth properly cleaned even after I tried communicating my concerns with the Frontdesk. A new dentist had to address my dental concerns and addressed my teeth not being cleaned properly after 6 - 8 cleanings. The clinic drilled into my teeth, claiming I had a cavities and placed fillings that lasted only a year or so. This clinic and several others in Pierce county are owned by group of investors who seem to have little interest in patient care.

During my injection to get numb at my first visit I thought maybe I just got lucky with an easy shot because there was barely any pain. Then the second visit for my root canal, same thing! The dentist never touched me after he put Novocain in my gums. He had his hygienist replace all the fillings. Currently, my bite is off, and I can't even floss between the teeth the hygienist worked on. She was horrible. I then saw my TMJ specialist, who has an MD and has been dentist for 30 years, who told me I did not need these fillings replaced since there was no decay. Apparently, since the dentist never touched me those 3.5 hours, and his hygienist replaced all the fillings, there was zero decay under the fillings. If there was, the dentist would have needed to replaced the decayed teeth himself. Never go to this dentist. In my experience he provided a service that was not needed and charged my insurance a ton of money and took $600 out of my account for non necessary work. I'm sure most patients don't even realize what he is doing. Safe yourself heartache and never go there.

We loved the attention to detail throughout the process. My daughter is on the spectrum and they made sure to explain everything to her in language that she could understand, have her demonstrate how to put in the bands or retainers herself, and they really empowered her to take care of her own teeth. State insurance paid for her braces. Very thankful for that. He does accept state insurance. His office is state of the art! His office is also clean and kid friendly! Over the 3 year process of braces I believe we waited more than 20 minutes twice. They are very good and staying on time. It is a busy office but they really do their best. In medicine, some things can't be predicted so giving grace when they run behind is just as important as them giving grace when we run behind. I am hoping my son will be next to have treatment here. Sharing My Experience for Other Families…read more I am sharing my personal experience with Hopke Orthodontics because I want other families to ask questions and consider getting a second opinion before making important decisions about their child's orthodontic treatment. My son was treated there for approximately three years. At first, his teeth seemed to be straightening well, but over time I became concerned because I was not seeing the progress I expected with his bite. He also developed inflammation, and when I took him to his hygienist, I was told that something did not seem right. I contacted the orthodontist because I wanted him to look into what was happening. When we followed up about two weeks later, I was told that he had not had a chance to look into my son's situation. As a parent, I found that very disappointing. We were also repeatedly told that my son would likely need jaw surgery. After leaving the practice, we got another orthodontic opinion and were given a different possible treatment approach involving braces, rubber bands, and possibly removing one tooth, which may give him a chance to avoid jaw surgery. I understand that orthodontists can have different professional opinions, and every child's case is different. I am not saying that another family will have the same experience. I am simply sharing what happened with my son and why I chose to leave. For families considering this office, especially families whose children have an underbite, I strongly recommend asking questions, understanding all available treatment options, and getting a second opinion before committing to a long treatment plan or jaw surgery. I am sharing this because our children's health and future deserve careful attention, communication, and a treatment plan that parents fully understand.

Overall,…read moreit felt like they were quite forceful about trying to maximize the revenue from services. 1) When I called to make an appointment as a new patient, I explained that I had just had xrays done by my prior dentist (we moved here from out of town, so I needed a new dentist). The receptionist said "we really like to do our own." I had the xrays (less than one year old) sent over via email, because I didn't want to get a second set only ten months after getting them done. 2) I walked into the office after parking on the street (I didn't realize they have a parking lot). I was asked "did you walk here?" After the points I'll mention below, I get the impression they look for what kind of car people drive to see if they have money or not. 3) Hygienist says "we're doing Xrays," I say, "no, not this time." She seems fairly shocked and upset by this and says "I'll have to ask the doctor and see what he says." No - that's not how it works. I'm the patient and if I say I'm not getting xrays because I have a set that's 10 months old, that's my decision to make. 4) Dr Jeff Osborn comes in and is very apologetic about the xray situation. I appreciate that he's nice about it - but I didn't like that there was friction in the first place. Strong-arming patients to get xrays.. feels like they are trying to add another service to bill insurance for. 5) I was asked twice "are you happy with your smile?" (it felt like they were looking for upsell opportunities). Not out of line per se - but, combined with everything else, I got the strong impression they are less about teeth cleanings and regular dental care, and are very interested in premium services / upsell opportunities. 6) During the cleaning the hygienist says "we'll need to do the cleaning in two appointments since there's a lot to do -- we'll get the top today." Yes, I drink coffee, and it had been 10 months since my last cleaning (because we moved, and getting an appointment here was only available 3 months out). But in my 4 decades of getting teeth cleaned I've never been told "we'll do half today, and half later." I said "that's weird, I've never heard that before." The hygienist ended up doing the entire cleaning (both top and bottom) and not mentioning it again. But I was again left with the impression they were trying to milk me or my insurance for additional revenue. 7) I was asked about teeth whitening and orthodontics. Again - not out of line on its own, but another instance where maximizing the revenue from the patient seems to be top-of-mind. It felt like they have a "revenue checklist" and they make sure to check every item with every patient. Overall, the feeling I was left with was that they're a lot more focused on upselling and premium services than I'm used to or happy with. Asking if I walked there... that was just weird. If you use them as your dentist, and drive up in a BMW or Mercedes, I have the strange feeling you'll be treated like a significant revenue opportunity. The staff was nice, once we got past their initial extremely strong position that I get new xrays (which, I suspect they may have dropped it because my insurance company only covers yearly xrays and therefore new ones wouldn't be covered anyway). I wonder if the corporate ownership structure puts really strong emphasis on maximizing revenue. They were all very nice and I wish them the best. But I didn't like the feeling that I was a revenue opportunity more than a patient.

I was shocked! He explained they are short handed due to the holidays so he goes in on Fridays (when they're closed) to help catch up! I will also say that I've been going here for about 12 years and as infrequently as I go, again 2 yrs since my last visit , he sure does have a good memory or takes good notes on patients when they visit. He remembered I have a teenage son and 2 small daughters, and we chatted about his 3 boys and how different parenting teens and young adults is in today's day and age. A couple of years ago, when I inquired about whitening after my first visit in 3 years and having back to back babies, cause pregnancy really took a toll on my teeth, he said it's cheaper and easier to just do the whitening strips at home, and I appreciated that especially since at the time I had two under 2 in diapers and daycare.
