A very beach like atmosphere right in the middle of the NE heights where you can play volleyball in the sand pits! The food was pretty good and reasonably priced. A little on the salty side. Service was great though.

    We ate it all

My GF and I had watched this spot get built out and finally open. We were looking for a lunch spot one day and decided to swing in. The cuban sandwich was delicious! Look for more to come from this great spot.

There's an awesome pirate ship for the kids to play on, and the art all around the place is awesome as well.

I don't feel there is enough variety of activities for the young professionals in Albuquerque. That said, if you want to get away from the gym, work, life stress, and spend time making friends in a boozy fraternity like atmosphere then this is the right scene for you. It's a great forum for meeting lots of people (if in kickball, it's mostly for drinking and less athletic, with dodgeball it's inverse to that), with a range of interests including drinking, hooking up, and being somewhat athletic (aka glory days). Kickball is great for fun times and making you curse more in a game than you have in a year when your 'fun' team gets crushed by the competitive teams. Dodgeball is crazy competitive and exhilarating in its own way...but the drinks don't flow as much, at least til after the games. Both these leagues, plus the others, reward membership with a T-shirt and 2 open bars (mid and end season parties). Overall for $70 it's a great way to get away to college life again, just be sure to keep your day to day on the DL. No ones got time for your adulting.

Playing ball in this league definitely had its fun moments. However, the peer-based reffing system…read morelends itself to a pretty obvious bias toward inner-circle kickballers who have been around the league a while. If you're part of the "in crowd" calls get made in your favor, and if you're a newbie team or a less than "elite" team, there's really nothing you can do about it. It's also pretty obvious that the league's leadership wants to be well liked by the cool kids because they simply pretend like none of this is going on and any feedback or constructive criticism of the structure falls on deaf ears. Kickball is fun, don't get me wrong, but way too many people in this league think it's all there is to life. You'll find out quickly enough just how awesome their mad kickball skills are because they will let you know constantly...even in the rec/beginner league. If you're looking for a fun, relaxed way to play with people who like kickball, but have a life outside of it...I'd look elsewhere. After more than 5 seasons, I'll be looking for a new league to play in and so will my team. :)

I've been playing at Charlie's Sandbox for a little over a year now, and have to say that I've met some pretty awesome people here. There are 6 sand courts indoor and 3 courts outside. League play is once a week during weekdays (co-ed 4s and 6s, beginners to advanced levels). For a 6s team, cost per person is about $112, which is kind of steep, but it's for 3 months worth of league play. Open tournaments are on Saturdays and Sundays (King of the Beach, Queen of the Beach, co-ed 4s and 6s). Just check the website to see what tourneys are coming up as well as start times (Charlie usually has a tourney every weekend). Charlie's Sandbox just opened their Sand Bar, which can make things more interesting. ;o) they also serve hot dogs, etc. If you're interested in sand volleyball, definitely check it out.

Because ZUMBA! I mean, do you need another reason?…read more My family in the midwest would disown me, that's how bad I was, hopping on the ice rink after, oh, 20 years in the desert. The McDermott Athletic Center offers what appears to be a regulation-sized rink, well maintained, with bench risers for spectators and heart-slobbery pop rock (think Gin Blossoms) on the speakers for teens who really don't have much to do in Rio Rancho besides flirt on ice. It's sweet, it really is, and such a law-abiding way to pass the time. My daughter also learned how to skate on this ice, she's eight, and I had a good time, even if I didn't represent my tribe very well. Obviously, this Center staffs a team of skate instructors and hosts team play on the regular. We visited for a birthday party, checking on pricing, a group of up to 10 kids, rentals, pizza and soda included appears to be a great deal. Moreover, the facility has a sizable weight room, good batting cages, a basketball court and gymnasium, and... wait for it... ZUMBA. That's right, you're going.

If you want your child to stop loving the sport and have their mental and emotional health messed…read morewith this is the place to go. This club is all about the wins and about the teams making it to Nationals. Sure that's good but not when it's at the cost of a kids dream. So yes what Michelle T wrote is absolutely true. You are just another paycheck to them. The coaches will only play their favorite players. When you address the problem and why not all players are getting playing time they pawn it off on the kid and say it's because they aren't putting in the work at practice or they guarantee practice time not playing time. So the kid then thinks they are the issue and aren't working hard enough so they start to put twice as much effort in at each practice but the coache's will still not pay attention to them and only focus on the favorite players. This starts taking a toll on the kid and they start to hate playing or going to practice. You reach out to the coache's and club directors again and you get the same lame excuse as before except this time with "they should be happy to just be on the team and support their teammates". When you've sat there watching each practice and saw how this kid put twice as much effort and heart into thing than the favorites. Also I think any parent would be upset with these words because if we wanted our kids to be chearleaders we would of put them in a cheer squad not volleyball. The fact that you pay the same as any other parent should guarantee play time as well. Maybe not the same playing time as the favorite players but at least some. These clubs are meant to prepare these kids for the possibility of playing in college. If you didn't think a kid was good enough to play on the court in a tournament why offer them the spot on the team?
