It has been forever since I've been in this area. As my dad celebrated 15 years being sober, I flew…read morein for his ceremony. Understanding how important of a moment this was for him, there was no way I could miss it. The Shattuck is a staple in Boston and does so much good for the community. The programming is in abundance and there is something for everyone. My father found a community during his time in treatment at the Shattuck and they have become his tribe. To this day, as we walked in, the staff knew him by name and he has impacted them just as much as they have him. Though he is no longer in treatment at the Shattuck, he goes back to give back to those who are in programming now as he runs a group weekly. All these years later and the resources that Shattuck provides those in need is amazing. This is more than a hospital or a facility. The Shattuck is a community of individuals who care, encourage, assist, and provide a source of accountability for those who are serious. Thank you to the Shattuck Hospital and the staff for making a difference in my dads life. You are truly appreciated.

Supposedly, this is a teaching hospital duly accredited by the Joint Commission. I'm not sure of…read morethe criteria for hospital accreditation, but i think they need to lose their accreditation if its dependent upon patient safety, clinical excellence, and adherence to evidence-based practices This hospital is overseen by The Disability Law Center. They need to act aggressively and close this hospital down. The great State of Massachusetts runs this hospital through the Department of Public Health. Shame on y'all. The college associated with the Lemuel Shattuck is Tufts University. My aunt, who just passed last month, worked for Tufts for over 60 years. I've respected Tufts for years. Now, I wouldn't send my student there to get their clinicals at the Shattuck. That sets them up for failure. The hospital was built in 1954, is 70 years old, and is named after Lemuel Shattuck, a local historian, statistician, and politician who helped create the nation's first Board of Health in 1869. I'm certain he's rolling over in his grave to have his name be associated with this suboptimal health care facility. I grew up in Boston. The Shattuck was known as the worst hospital more than 50 years ago. My family member has been at this facility going on a month This past month, I've learned how low they could go. My family member is a very recent quad amputee. He was transferred here from MGH because they said he no longer required that level of care. The Lemuel Shattuck is supposed to be competent in Acute and Sub Acute care. From the moment he got there, I've had to work with the patient advocate almost daily. The issues range from mice in family member's rooms, gnats coming up from the sink in family members' room, non-adherance to basic nursing procedures and techniques, lack of professional demeanor and rudeness, leaving urinals unemptied, linoleum floor covering not glued down, etc. The few professionals that work here are outnumbered. The general attitude of staff and management is lackluster and non-empathetic, and I feel the level of care borders on the criminal. I notified DLC and DPH. DLC did respond and spoke with me. I got a letter from DPH. If you have any other options, please do not let your family member be taken to this hospital for any reason.

When I made the appointment with Beth Israel…read moreLahey Health at Chestnut Hill, double checked again and again, they promised they accepted my insurance as in the network. Then I called back to confirm if my insurance is accepted and in the network, I got the same answer, but when the bill came out, it showed out of network and I have to pay every penny although I have met OOPM. If I know they were not in my insurance network, I would not to visit them. Definity will not visit this hospital and would not recommend them to anyone I know.

The team at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center was well-informed, well-equipped and exhibited superior bedside manner during my stay after having emergency surgery. During my time at the hospital Dr. Anu Hazra in infectious disease was quick to ensure that I was going to recover as soon as possible. My surgical team made up of Dr. Umesh Metkar and Dr. Michael Van Hal, were extremely knowledgeable. But what put my mind at ease was not only the display of their medical expertise but the care with which they treated me as a patient. Dr. Umesh Metkar and Dr. Michael Van Hal took the time to thoroughly explain the procedure, next steps and recovery time and helped me feel more comfortable putting my faith in his surgical skills. During my recovery they checked in on my progress and continued to exhibit unrivaled professionalism, empathy and attentiveness to my care. In addition, the entire team of nurses and staff within the transplant unit mirrored the exceptional traits that Dr. Umesh Metkar and Dr. Michael Van Hal has displayed during each and every one of my interactions with them. They remained steadfast in their dedication to quality care, ensuring that my health was closely monitored and that I was made to feel as comfortable as possible. When I had any questions or issues that needed resolution the nursing staff was able to respond and come to my aid. In particular Julie, Christie, Melissa, Ligaya, Andrea, and Yelena were wonderful! The nursing staff was smart, personable and are what I would consider to be one of the biggest assets to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Should you ever need medical treatment, this is the team you want on your side. I cannot thank Dr. Umesh Metkar and Dr. Michael Van Hal, Melissa Aiesi, Ligaya Hannaford, Andrea Barbosa, and Yelena Kozhebrodskaya and of course Liz for all that they have done for me and all that they continue to do for all of their patients.

That is not all. They take one set of pictures you dress and leave. Forget the 100 mile round trip and getting up at 4 am to get there. They make you come back. Now, I get it about Covid. But Covid hit the fan last March. Were they too busy chasing their tails to Notify people who had upcoming appointments about these changes well in advance of this. The secretary who I did the Covid questionnaire with mentioned it as she was hanging up the phone today, the day before the appointment, and said as you know, no live reads. They connected me with their empty suit office manager who was as good as nothing. Instead of shooting the breeze and chasing your tails, get out your computer AND WARN PEOPLE OF THESE CHANGES - AND I DON'T MEAN THE DAY BEFORE. I and everyone else could have made other arrangements, in my case, a center closer to me on August 29, one year and one day after last year. While I wouldn't have been thrilled about this news, if I got it in March or April,. I would not be complaining. Why does this horrific Covid 19 bring out the ignorance, stupidity, and unsympathetic in people, even our HEALTH HEROS -- LOL. Ok, today my appt, was even a worse experience. Starting with the rude secretary, who didn't like me calling her out about her confusing me with the patient listing under my name. She started ranting and raving to her co worker, as I sat nearby trying to fill out paperwork. People, it was before 9 am and barely 2 other patients around, tired already? Or the wrong time of the month, hangover maybe. Insulting me to my face in front of her coworker and other patients AT THE TOP OF HER LUNGS! Believe it or not, things got even worse from there. The mammographer was nice, or so I thought, until I was exiting the area, and I caught her and her empty suit boss laughing and insulting me, at the top of their lungs. Oh, empty suit - a hint to his name - something like- Pillsbury Dough Boy, which also describes his appearance. Once again, they knew I was nearby, and were shouting! I wish I had thought to use my phone to record these A holes. I just could not believe my ears. The mammographer told doughboy that I asked for her name and that I was going to ask for her next year. Don't flatter yourself Margie. I said no such thing. After she said this to doughboy she broke out into hysterical laughter. B****, I THOUGHT you were nice. You people are all despicable, and aren't fit to shovel horse sh**, never mind healthcare. HEALTH CARE HEROES. You should lose your jobs. Your a disgrace to healthcare. Tell me, do you tear apart cancer patients. BTW, I am precancerous, did I deserve this treatment yesterday and today?
