The gym is great but I just struggled figuring out what I needed to do. Synergy eliminates the guess work. Age is no matter, physical limitations also no matter. The staff will help with alternative exercises and work with any limitations. They make the workouts challenging but fun. They also offer virtual if physically going in is a challenge. Don't want a group workout, they got that covered too. One on one personal training is always and option. I just love this place and the staff!

After a few classes, I found their HIIT/Cardio intense (at least for me) programs very helpful for my races that require more than just running. At OTF, there's treadmills, rowers and the weight floor. You can choose where you want to start, or let the front desk pick for you. The space is a little smaller than Chelmsford, but it's convenient because I can jump into class right after work. Also, most days run classes until 6:30 unlike the other branch I go to. After attending a month's worth of classes, I can definitely say that their theory works (stay in orange/red zone long enough and you'll continue burning after class). Almost forgot, if you sign up for a class and miss it, there's a $15 fee! That's one way to stay accountable!

During a month-long work trip to Cambridge we indulged in Boston's superb culinary scene. Because…read moreour caloric intake upticked it was essential to find a gym for us to work off all those extra drinks and desserts. The nearest gym to our temporary residence was the Planet Fitness in Waltham and we could not have been more pleased. We want to thank the manager, Chan, and his staff for making us feel welcome and accomodating us for a short period membership. The Planet Fitness offers a full suite of both cardio and strength equipment that addresses all of workout requirements. And there is ample duplication to enable a large number of patrons to burn off excess calories, stress, and energy. This gym is well maintained and the staff was noticeably making rounds to ensure proper functioning and cleanliness. When repairs to equipment were needed it was usually accomplished within 24 hours. The gym hours are great and meshed nicely with our hectic schedule. Weekday hours are from 5:00 am until 10:00 pm which ensured we could get in a daily workout. The patrons here are very friendly and and we enjoyed the social dimensions of being in the gym. We also noted that everyone is meticulous about cleaning the equipment after completing a set. Great facility with a wide variety of equipment and an attentive staff and genial patrons made for an exceptional experience. However, the drinking fountain upstairs has been out of order for months without any end in sight and now the downstairs fountain is out of order, with little chance that will be repaired sooner. No functional drinking fountain is unforgivable. This is a high traffic gym between Waltham and Cambridge with lots of people stopping off before work and we need water. Photos attached.

Boston Underground Strength Training is a godsend in the sports fitness community. I spoke with…read moreAngel on the phone to discuss my goals, recovering from a multi-year shoulder injury and getting back onto the path to powerlifting, and we set up an in-person consultation. The consultation was quick and thorough and we set up a plan of action to get me back in shape to lift heavy again. It took a while but trusting Angel and the other trainers here was the best thing I have ever done. I want to say it took about 8 months of recovery based training with the semi-private training group but I no longer have the chronic shoulder pain that I first walked in with. Since coming to Boston Underground Strength Training and going through the recovery training I have competed in three powerlifting meets and have been performing better than I could ever imagined thanks to the excellent programming and coaching provided here. Without Boston Underground I would never have been able to recover from my shoulder injury and probably would have had to give up on my favorite hobby. No crowded gyms or waiting for machines. Expert trainers who handle all the thinking (and racking weights!) for me. Sessions on my calendar that keep me accountable. The trainers plan the workouts, track my progress, and actually make sure my form isn't awful. It's amazing how much easier it is to stick to a workout routine when all you have to do is show up and focus on picking heavy things up and putting them down.
