Chesapeake Central Park - Chesapeake Central Park: Christmas 2018

    Chesapeake Central Park

Review # 46…read more Location: 6120 N Western Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73118; the site of Chesapeake Energy's Campus Headquarters, in the Nichols Hills suburb. It is south of Nichols Hills Plaza and NW 63rd Street; across from Whole Foods Market. Specifics: This Park is actually a green roofing over a two level parking garage for the employees of Chesapeake Energy (CE). It has 235,392 square feet of underground parking, with 395 parking spaces, and connects to the two campus buildings. The athletic field has a walking and running path, with the center area free for sports or company events. There is exercise equipment when you first walk up the stairs to the park before you reach the center. During the Christmas holidays they have a giant Christmas tree in the center, with large boxes wrapped as decorations. The trees surrounding the area and the fence are covered with Christmas lights as well. Concept: CE wanted to build a natural turf athletic field over the parking garage with an open perimeter for air circulation; providing a nice view for the city, while also providing a way to reduce heat and collect rain water. The green rooftop replaces the green space taken by a building, lowers the temperature of the building, keeps extra storm water drainage from overflowing, and extends and protects the roof; while also reducing energy costs and requirements. History: This site was a 1970's office park called 3 Chopt Square, until CE bought it in 1988 to start the energy company. In November 2009, CE demolished the buildings to rebuild to their specifications. CE wanted to build a new, energy efficient and modern campus, following the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) standards. LEED are standards for construction and operations of green buildings administered by the US Green Building Council. Posted on 6 Jan 2019

Review #49 Location:…read more NW Grand Blvd between Nichols Road, Huntington Ave, and Sherwood Lane. Near Nichols Hills Plaza. Parking: On the south side of the park off NW Grand Blvd, before Huntington Ave. Facilities: No bathrooms. There are a few benches at various sections of the park and a 3-way water fountain, with the third fountain being close to the ground for your pet to get a drink. There are a few pedestrian bridges across the drainage ditch if you don't want to complete the entire trail and want to cross north or south. The park is separated by a drainage ditch that runs the length of the park. Specifics: This is a small, curvy walking and running path in the middle of NW Grand Blvd, across from homes in Nichols Hills, running north and south, in an almost crescent shape. The entire path is about 1.16 miles, on a concrete sidewalk through grass and trees. It's broken up in three sections by two roads that run in the middle of it, going east and west. The first section begins at Nichols Road and the concrete path is on the north side of the park until you get to Huntington Ave; where you cross a pedestrian bridge, then cross Huntington Ave, and the path continues on the south side of the park in the second section. It continues south on NW Grand Blvd until you come to the next street, Bedford Drive, and cross it to finish the third and last section of the park. You will see Nichols Hills United Methodist Church to the north east after Bedford Drive. Continue down until Sherwood Lane where the path and park end, close to apartment homes. Nichols Hills Plaza is a short distance to the east off Sherwood Lane. Posted on 29 Jan 2019
