OKC failed this place. No excuses. I came in August and loved it cause I could actually walk on the trails and even walked along the river for awhile and took some cool pictures. Now there is zero trails besides the boring bike trail. Idk when or if the parks dept is going to make this place walkable for the summer but it's useless rn without a bike c

We love going to Stinchcomb! It's a little bit of wilderness right in our backyard. The dirt road is blocked of so it can only be traveled by hikers and animals. It's an out and back trail that is about 1 mile one direction. If you would rather hike amongst the trees instead of the dirt road trail there are many places to enter the "forest" and follow the trail along the river. You will see many people kayaking or SUPing down the river (which is another activity we love Stinchcomb for). For Oklahoma, this is as good as a "wilderness" trail will get close to the city.

As delightful as it is to gussy up for nights out on the town, I'm a nature girl at heart. Time amongst the trees and beasts is essential to my well being, so at least once a week (ideally more), I can be found paddling the waters or hiking the woods. Today it was a bird-watching jaunt to Stinchcomb. City parks are a treasure, but true nature needs a truer environment - not the overly tidied, mown, cleared out pristine atmosphere most of our parks provide. Out here things are much more as they should be, with undergrowth, brush, swampy bogs and ponds, and deadwood aplenty providing ideal habitat for a wealth of creatures - insects, birds, furry mammals. In recent years more people have discovered this gem of wilderness, and sadly, not all of them seem to respect it. You will encounter the usual human debris, mainly beer cans and water bottles, which is a shame. I like to think, though, that the majority of visitors appreciate it enough to leave things better than found. Main activities are walking, running, dog walking, bicycling, with evidence of horses often present as well. You can stick to the main road, that's dirt (or mud), and gated off to regular motorized traffic. If you're feeling more explory, however, there are a number of woodsy trails, made by humans or animals, that can take you on a good meander, for as long as you wish to ramble. You may see deer, possums, armadillos, and certainly have the opportunity to spot all sorts of birds. During migration and nesting in particular, the variety can be astounding - from water birds and waders, to woodpeckers, to owls and hawks, and cheerful song birds; bring your binoculars and your checklist. The terrain can be muddy, so choose your footwear wisely. A walking stick is handy (especially should you be inclined to tackle crossing a stream by fallen log), as is drinking water. But don't be a loser and leave your bottle behind. If you wander off the trails, it's a good idea to have a map app handy, as it's surprisingly easy to lose bearings amongst the trees, and swear you're going north when in fact you're headed south. Pack up your gear and step out to hone those outdoor skills.

This is a great little park in Bethany. For the most part it's a pretty quite park. There are…read moremany people who come out to walk/run the 1.5 mile sidewalk trail around the park. The walk around the park is nice and flat and there are even distance markers so you know how far you've gone. There are several ares with many picnic tables. There are two playground areas for kids and several wide open fields. These fields would be great for getting together with friends and playing ultimate, kickball, or soccer if they were not full of stickers that will cover your socks and shoes if you walk through them. Overall, if you need a good afternoon walk or a shaded playground for the kids, I would recommend this park.

Sometimes trees are nice, but I like that this park has many open expanses for kids to run and play in a very safe space. Softball, basketball and soccer areas are here also - though I don't know much about reserving them or anything. There are a few different playground areas, and admittedly, these could use some updating, but I think there are lots of places with splash pads and new playground equipment - what Eldon Lyon provides is room, and lots of it. In a time when parents feel they can't just let their kids roam free in the neighborhoods and the creek beds of our youth, this park helps address that need. I love the two mile trail that loops around and sometimes through the entire park, the nice picnic areas, and people watching.
