Kathryn worked with us for over two months helping my wife and I prepare for our first dance on our wedding day. I hope she thought our dance went as well as we thought it did from watching the clips and I hope we made her proud (only a few small, unnoticed missteps ) because she was beyond outstanding as an instructor. When we decided to get dance lessons to make our first dance at our wedding look nice, I figured it was just something I'd have to go through to get it over with. However, after working with Szewai for a couple months once every other week or so, I got really into it. My wife and I were by no means good dancers, and probably were slow learners. Thanks to Szewai's patience and great teaching skills we ended up with a really nice looking first dance. The dance itself ended up meaning a lot more to me than I thought it would so I'm really glad we went through the trouble to practice so much and really get it down. I can't say enough positive things about Duet Dance Studio. My "new" husband and I started taking lessons last year in preparation for our wedding. We recently got married, and our first dance was one of the most special moments for us that entire day. There's something really intimate and memorable about learning a new "hobby" with the person you love. And being able to see all the hard work pay off at our wedding was so incredibly rewarding. On a personal note, all of the instructors are so incredibly kind and warm people, and they all get to know you. We worked with Mariel, who is no longer there, and can't say enough wonderful things about her as a person and an instructor. My husband suggested taking lessons to prepare for the first dance at our wedding. We made an appointment with Szewai at Duet and immediately felt comfortable with her. She has a wonderful personality and really works with couples! We picked our song and she taught us the rumba to go along with the tune. She paid close attention to our needs and taught each of us in a way that was effective - individually and as a couple! We both felt really comfortable and looked great! Plus, we had a ton of fun in the process! We didn't have a ton of money to spend on lessons, but that wasn't a problem. We are definitely nowhere near skilled when it comes to dancing, so it was a little scary making the first step to come in for a private dance lesson. We loved working with Szewai to choreograph our first dance for our wedding in December! My husband and I were always the people not on the dance floor at weddings; we were too embarrassed. When we first got engaged we were really worried about our first dance so we thought it would be a good idea to take lessons. We signed up 6 months before our wedding and Szewai choreographed a dance to "Tonight Tonight" by the Smashing Pumpkins. Everyone was blown away and were cheering so loud afterwards. For two people who never danced, it was pretty amazing when my husband was picking me up and swinging me around in the air gracefully. His mom said, "Is that really my son?" We became pretty good dancers in 6 months! We learned some swing and foxtrot, which now we think is a lot of fun. With help from Duet Dance Studio, my husband and I were twirling across the dance floor with confidence on our wedding day. Szewai and the rest of the amazing instructors helped us learn all the ballroom dance steps we needed for an impressive first dance. From our first meeting, the team was friendly, knowledgeable, and patient as they walked us through each step. The studio feels welcoming and cozy. We let them know our first dance song when we signed up and Szewai and another instructor were prepared on our first lesson with a beautiful semi-choreographed dance that went perfectly with the music and our vision of our first dance. My now husband and I decided we wanted to be a youtube sensation during our first dance... a month before our wedding. We found Duet Dance Studio and went in, and I was pretty unconvinced at first. The time, the money and the fact that I can't dance AT ALL. We went back a second time and met with Grace who completely clicked with us and we ended up signing up. Grace was wonderful - easy to work with, laughed at our cheesy jokes, and of course taught us exactly what we needed to learn for our "vision". We were a little unique in that we wanted a foxtrot AND some LMFAO Party Rock... Grace actually found the LMFAO song and learned the dance after she met with us the first time and then taught it to us. We pulled it off, and Grace was patient and awesome as a teacher. She is a pleasure to work with and she comes highly recommended from us! My husband and I found Szewai to prepare for our first dance at our wedding. We were restricted to 10 lessons to learn a 3 min routine due to time constraint. Both my husband and I had no previous ballroom dancing experiences, Szewai has an effective way to train beginners as well as choreograph beautiful routines. After 8 lessons, we had our entire routine memorized and we felt pretty comfortable performing already, the rest of the two lessons were just for perfecting our skills and increasing our comfort level with the routine. I have no dance or theater background so I really didn't want to take the lessons. We worked with Brennan and Liz. They were outstanding and took time to help explain "beat" and "rythmn" which I had none of prior to the lessons. I never knew dancing could be so difficult. My wife and I took dance lessons with Brennen to prepare for our first dance at our wedding in January 2017. We picked our first dance song (For Once in My Life by Stevie Wonder), and then Brennen taught us two dance styles (rumba and swing) that would be used in the dance. After teaching us elements of each dance style, he choreographed a dance from start to finish. When we first saw the result (Brennen and another instructor danced for us), we were blown away! Brennen is an excellent instructor; he is very patient, especially with someone like me (an engineer who likes to think things through) who may not be the best dancer. He is also very observant, looking at our form and footwork as we were learning the dance, constantly providing feedback. After many weeks of hard work, we were very happy with our first dance at our wedding and would definitely recommend this for any couple in preparation for their wedding. The dance studio itself is very warm and inviting. The owner Szewai and other dance instructors are very supportive. We have since attended a few of their monthly dance parties - they always focus on teaching the dance moves of whatever style the party is about, and then there is open dancing that follows. Duet is the place to go for a fun beginner class or a more in depth series of lessons. I had a deal and tried the 4 week beginner class pack. Every friday @9p, you can learn a new class. Grace and Marielle are the best! they are patient and have clear instruction. The space is decent for a large group. Swing was the best class. I went to all of the classes by myself and I had a great time. they switch off partners so it was nice to feel how everyone interprets the moves. Can't say enough great things about Duet (especially Brennen)! My wife (fiancé at the time) took classes to prepare for our first wedding dance together. We chose Duet because of the great reviews as well as close location. We only took classes for 2 months, which made us nervous as it really isn't enough time. I w never done a dance class before and I didn't really know what to expect. The ladies at Duet Dance Studio were so incredibly welcoming and friendly and took the awkwardness out of learning new dances with witty jokes and simply addressing whatever you were probably worried about. My boyfriend and I learned how to do the dance from Dirty Dancing and we came home and practiced it right away, laughing the whole time. Duet Dance Studio made a great memory for us. This place is so fun! My boyfriend and I came for a merengue lesson and were so nervous but the instructors were amazing! It's byob which helps loosen you up. They make you switch partners which was frightening at first but it is such a great tool to help you learn. It's about an hour of lessons and then you have some free play to do whatever you want. They also had three special performances from couples who were being married soon, it was cute. read more
