Our class was in studio #5. The sound system was good. Unsure if I loved the floors, but they worked good for this class. Ample spacing for our class which had nearly 2 dozen participants. The space it self is really comprehensive. I saw multiple bathrooms and a gender-neutral bathroom. There is at least 5 separate dance spaces. Each space was arranged depending on dance style. I saw a room with several barre. The general area also boosted several areas to just chill while waiting on a loved to finish a class. On this day...all the kiddos were taking classes. So many little one excited to take their dance classes. It was cute because this little girl kep staring at our class through the window. Highly recommend seeing all the offerings at this dance center. I was surprised by the many offerings they have. I want to try a beginner hip-hop but we will see. Tip: Parking is located around the building on street. Mostly free but get there with time to look. I found it easier to just park off Belmont and walk.

I entered the studio everybody was so nice from the first minute that I attended classes there everyday 3 weeks long! The teachers are all really professional and push you to your limits, but still they are strict in a caring way and motivate you to keep on working! Joel Hall himself still teaches classes and I attended his Jazz Dance Method, which is really hard work! He himself said: "We're gonna kill you, but you're gonna love it." and that's just the way it is! You develop such an ambition that you keep on stretching and tightening your tummy and it's the best work out you can get! The Jazz, Modern and HipHop classes with Will Gill were absolutely wonderful too! I always did 2 classes in a row, although I was already soaking wet, but he keeps making you want to dance more and more! I can recommend this Dance Center to really everybody! No other dance studio in Chicago makes you feel at home so quickly and every class is worth attending because I've never learned so much technique and also feeling for dancing and music before than I did in this 3 weeks at Joel Hall! I'm gonna miss it in Austria! I hope I'll come back soon!

My only complaint would be that the studio was way too hot and there is no water fountain. They do, however, sell water from a refrigerator which was a saving grace. Overall, they were very welcoming and organized, and I would definitely come again!

Even though I loved dance and had no fear of performing, the one that always made me feel uncoordinated and self-conscious was any sort of unscripted booty shaking in front of others. It's still rare that you'll finding me dancing with reckless abandon outside the confines of my home unless there are serious amounts of booze involved. Until now that is. I entered the DDPP studio full of excitement and trepidation, still unsure if I could really let loose in a room full of strangers without some liquid courage. All my nervousness quickly melted away as I saw women of all ages, colors, shapes and sizes filter into the studio; the veterans full of excitement and positive energy. I paid my $5 and figured that worst that could happen was that I'd give a room full of mostly strangers some comic relief. As has been mentioned before, the studio is nothing fancy, but for this it really doesn't need to be. There are a few mirrors, some rope lights along the floor and a light machine. The music is courtesy of guest DJ's, not pros, but fellow DDPP'ers; you only need to attend once before becoming one. There aren't many rules to DDPP, but the two key ones are no judgment of yourself or others and no talking (singing along is ok). I'm still working on that first rule; I was truly wowed by the other ladies in the room and silently quite critical of my own, but the dimmed lights helped me work on my inhibition. A warm up and cool down song sandwich the non-stop dance party. You can move with as much intensity as you like, but it's hard not to get caught up in the infectious energy in the room. As far as apparel is concerned, anything goes. However, I would strongly suggest layers and breathable fabrics, leave the denim at home but defo bring a water bottle and maybe even a hand towel. I consider myself to be in decent shape and it wasn't long before I was crazy sweaty and a touch winded. If you're looking to work out some emotions, burn some calories or simply get your grove on, you've got to try it - it probably will cost you less than some fancy Starbucks drink. I may never convince myself that I look any better than Elaine Benes on the dance floor, but I'm working on not caring.

She clearly had favorites (we weren't one), and we observed her not even address my daughter despite her running toward her yelling her name out of excitement in class. Sure, you might have a couple favorite kids, but never show it. It got to the point that my daughter made comments to my wife and I at home that "Ms. Nicole won't say hi to me." For anyone with young kids or had young kids, for a 3 year old to say this, it must be a pattern of behavior. It broke our hearts. And to cap off the experience, the night of the recital, my wife and I admit we forgot to pay the remaining balance with everything else going on in our lives (expecting baby #2 in 3 weeks to name the biggest). Nicole greeted my wife and mother-in-law in quite possibly the rudest and most disrespectful way imaginable...."I don't have time for this tonight. She can't come in until you pay!" Thankfully we had enough cash to pay, but she released our tickets the day before and would have sent us home for an oversight we clearly were willing to pay. She caused a scene, and it was completely out of line. Her tone, demeanor, attitude, and overall treatment of people she doesn't care for is unbelievably disappointing and unfortunate. Not to mention, the lack of organization at the recital, the lack of food and drinks for young kids, etc. was all shocking (it was from 4-7p). Wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
