Four stars for two small plates we shared. Flip side: the other two apps, they were nothing to write home about. The calamari and Brussels sprouts were both duds. The calamari didn't have much flavor, and the lite tasteless corn breading didn't give it umph, either. While I am a true believer that calamari needs to hold its own, and the dip(s) that is paired with should merely enhance, not be the star of the show, the lemon aioli drizzled left me still waiting for that ta da! moment, and wasn't pronounced, rather bland. The Brussels sprouts small plate also didn't have the best flavor profile. Close to having a burnt taste, it didn't keep us craving more. The chopped walnuts tasted candied-esque? Mix that with the dijon sauce, and it was kind of a jumble of mismatched flavors, imo. The Mushroom Pizza and Beet Salad were, without hesitation, the superstars of the meal. These two apps are the sole reason for star #4. The Beet Salad is quite possibly in my top three favorites, running strong. The hazelnut vinaigrette was incredible, being so light and subtle flavorful. Paired perfectly with the fresh arugula. The candied grapes were a cute veer from the normal boring dried cranberries humdrum. And the dish came with five or six good-sized plops of fresh goat cheese - the crème de la crème. I definitely know I'll be back for this pearl of a dish. Thursdays, during Happy Hour (5-7p), all pizzas are half-priced. We shared the Mushroom, added sausage to it for an extra $2. And man did they load on the fennel sausage! Very impressive. Also lots of shrooms, and plenty of ricotta dollops. Great flavorful crust. That was a darn good bargain. It was nice sitting at the bar, with the sunlight shinning in. The bar does not have purse hooks, which made it awkward to hold our purses on our lap - down-grade. Also, the bartender was polite, but very minimal interaction. I still have some left on my Dine Originals gift card, so I'll definitely be back. However, this time, I know what's worth getting again, and what to pass on. Maybe next time, an entree is in order. read more

Popped in here for lunch with colleagues. Pleasantly surprised. Classic Italian dishes , well executed at a reasonable price. Rustic atmosphere with hard wood floors and exposed brick walls. Zupa di giorno was roasted red pepper bisque. Well balanced and full of flavor. Fresh baked bread served with seasoned olive oil. We had a variety of entrees and salads including chicken parm, lasagna, and veal meatball spaghetti. All dishes were excellently prepared with fresh ingredients and perfectly seasoned. This is definitely a place I would want to come for nice dinner, but this is an outstanding lunch spot as well. Didn't get a chance to explore the wines but they looked promising. read more

Very nice and cozy Italian restaurant I will say a bit fancy very good for a date spot, even though I went with a group of my co-workers, a bit busy in lunch hours so I will not recommend if you are in a hurry. Our waitress was awesome, the other staff we met were nice as well. Food was very delicious, my friends and I, decided to share a pie of pizza for an appetizer we choose the Margherita pizza a garlic oil with Roma tomatoes and mozzarella cheeses on basil oil, the pizza had a bit too much cheese with was great, I loved the buttered thin crust though with making the flavor very good. For my entree, I order the pasta chicken parmesan a linguini, breaded chicken with provolone on rosé sauce parmesan, the pasta was very fresh, the chicken was good and the portion was a lot, the taste was very yummy. read more

we had a rehearsal dinner here and they did an amazing job! kudos to all!!! i am mind blown that they were able to get out maybe 40 dinners (and the restaurant was also full at the time so they were serving their regular patron's as well) and everything was delicious, artfully plated and super consistent... did i mention Delicious?!!!! we had three choices (a chicken parm with vodka sauce, the gnocchi with an alfredo pesto and a diablo beef bolognese which i was told had a hearty kick to it! lol. their salads were light and absolutely delicious! we loved the light yet flavorful lemon vinaigrette dressing with the delicate greens and the olives, which were not overpowering! and their tiramisu was FANTASTIC!! and we don't even like or eat desserts but that one was worth the calories!! and i did not mention the room was beautiful as well with the beautiful wood floors to the exposed brick walls what a perfect spot for a magical evening!!! Downtown Columbus' best Italian restaurant. The food is fantastic and the wine selection, while not expansive, is excellent. Servers are knowledgeable, accommodating and solicitous. Excellent choice for a nice business dinner, night out, or special occasion. Frankly also a nice place anytime if you want to treat yourself. I heard they also have happy hour if you want to drink some great wine at near retail prices. I had their special, bacon wrapped meatloaf, with hand made gnocchi and a fruit sauce. It was actually a surprisingly elegant choice. They gave great advice on the wine and we're really enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge. If you're in downtown Columbia and in the mood for Italian, traditional or a bit more creative, Due Amici is the place for you. read more

My first time here and it was a terrible experience. I was there yesterday for their Drag Brunch. It really just starts with the boring buffet that cost $30. I've had buffets that match this at Motel 6. But it got worse when we literally waited for 10 minutes for them to replenish all the hot food. This was scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage links and potatoes. That's it. It doesn't get any simpler than that but we literally had to track an employee down to let them know all the food was out... then we waited 10 minutes for the replenishment. There was probably 20 people behind us so I'm sure they ran out of food again not long after. The service at the table was also terrible. I had to keep waving down our server to get more coffee. Our empty plates sat on our table for 1 hour before they were removed. There was no salt/pepper on our table (or any table for that matter) and believe me, the bland eggs needed it. When I asked for my check, the server asked if we ate. I think that tells the entire story in one sentence... our server didn't even know if we ate or just had coffee. read more

Had a great brunch outside at Due Amici! The food was tasty, but the best part was our waitress, Ayanna! I asked whether they had ice coffee, and though they didn't, Ayanna offered to fix one up for me. I was slightly dubious but figured it couldn't hurt to just see what happens. Turns out, Ayanna makes a meaner iced coffee than some coffee houses! She went out of her way to make sure I had a great experience. If they decide to expand their coffee offerings, they already have a built in barista! A lovely meal all around. read more

I ended up getting their gift card special after Black Friday since I heard a lot of good things about this place. As we walked it in was super pretty and definitely traditional Italian looking. The bar was nicely decorated and the high leather chairs were pretty comfy. Funny story: I asked to sue the restroom while they sat Adrienne and I got to go though an adventure underground and through a hole cut through the stone wall to get to it. Super fun! We weren't greeted at the door even though it said wait to be seated so we simply walked to the bar to grab a seat. It was happy hour so I ordered the Kentucky mike and Adrienne had a merlot. We immediately got greeted by a dozen fruit flies when we sat down and were trying to smack them away through the entire food process. It was pretty gross. We got the calamari, lamb chops, and margarita pizza. The lamb chops were cooked well but didn't have any seasoning on it which I found very odd. The pickled cabbage underneath was really good though! The calamari was ok as well even though it took a lot of jaw power to get through the super chewy sea-dweller. The pizza was very soupy as it came out of the oven and we had to get a whole pizza remade as they brought us a mushroom pizza on accident. The tomatoes on the pizza were fresh and they definitely juiced everywhere. You could tell the cleanliness was an issue since the second mule they gave me was covered in dried tomato sauce. Wonderful food and drinks. Didn't take any pictures of it but very delicious. I was there for a private event and we had a buffet of fruit, cheese, meatballs, calamari, bread, crackers, pizza's and cheesecake. I have never tasted such tender and well seasoned calamari in my life. I am glad someone else was taking care of the bill because I helped myself if you know what I mean. On the menu it is pricey. The peach sangria was a hit among many, the coffee was on point. I don't need to say more. Just a good place to eat. Go for an event or treat yourself. read more

Service was AWFUL. (Waiter was Tyson) We were not asked if we wanted anything else to drink besides water. The waiter immediately wrote down our food order. We did not get bread until we had been sitting there for quite some time (many other tables had it). Then, our waters were rarely filled and we weren't being payed attention to. My order got placed incorrectly and we got a free app. to "fix it". Then my boyfriend ordered the veal meatballs and was brought chicken Parmesan. First time at Due Amici. Drinks were made well but were a little pricey for size but that's also something to take into account downtown. The food came out hot and portions were appropriate to pricing. The baked feta and fried ravioli were delicious. The chicken parmesan was a hit and others at the table got the sausage pizza and the shrimp carbonara which both were very good! Cheesecake was light and the whole table reviewed it well. Atmosphere was great but only downfall was space. Our table was kind of small for 4 and it seemed to be very close to other tables so you had to squeeze by if you needed to get up and go to the restroom. Hadn't been here in years, still great food and a good crowd. Had the wedge and some antipasto, it was delicious as always. My only issue is that I ordered a vodka on the rocks, a little dirty, and I got charged $2.25 for a "martini down" upcharge. (They noted the dirty separately too but no charge for olive brine, how generous!) I didn't order a martini, I just ordered vodka, so I got to pay that on top of the $9 for ketel. My companion got two up charges for "martini up", although she did actually order martinis, but then why the weird charges? Didn't notice until today, so they got me I guess. Probably won't be back though, if I have to review my bill looking for bs after a great meal it's kind of a mood killer. I don't want to have to interrogate my server to find out what secret charges I should watch for, just charge me $12 or whatever. read more

Went to Due Amici for the first time on a Friday night. Our party of 5 had a great table and efficient service. I have a very refined palate and I was delighted with the veal meatballs. I had read some reviews and 2 commented that their food needed salt. I disagree, the herbs and sauce carried the flavor well. If you want salty food go to Olive Garden. We had a Malbec from Argentina that was smooth and full bodied. The upholstered chairs are comfortable and the main dining area has a calm ambience perfect for conversation. Sadly, their lunchtime waiter on a Thursday tried to take an order for a table of four without writing it down -- never a good idea. The order was messed up and he never came back to ask if the food was prepared correctly. These are basic errors in how to run a restaurant. I've dined here twice, and Due Amici has become my favorite Italian restaurant in Columbus. The dining room is lovely, with lots of exposed old brick. Not a lot of art on the walls to distract you - just great food, served well, in a comfortable dining room. I'm sure the noise level gets lively when they're full. The servers are professional, attentive, and know both the menu and their wine list. Impressive. These are not kids working their way through college part-time. The food was outstanding. We shared the Diavolo (incredible), the Ensalata Mista strawberry salad (fantastic), and the corn chowder (wonderful). The bread is as good as it gets. The Tira Misu was literally the best I've EVER eaten. Contrary to another reviewer's comment, 2x markup on wine isn't out of line for a good restaurant. I've seen 3x elsewhere, which would be high. We had a beautiful $40 bottle of red Italian blend that I'd never find in a store, and it was better than many $100 bottles I've consumed. Granted, it would be $19 if I could find it retail, but if you don't want to pay a restaurant's wine markup either 1) stay home, or 2) dine on Monday night when Due Amici has Half Off Wine Night. They have a nice outdoor dining patio right on the sidewalk on Gay Street. If the weather's nice, you'll have great people watching and a very pleasant evening. I agree with Michael C's review when he says "People who say there are 'lots' of good Italian restaurants in Columbus must have never eaten Italian food outside of Columbus." There aren't a lot. There are only a few good Italian restaurants in Columbus, and Due Amici is definitely at the top of my list (and my great-grandparents came to America on a boat from Italy, so I know a little bit about good Italian food... :-). read more

What a fun and chic place in the heart of downtown Columbus! Took a chance on brunch and glad I did! For 30 bones, a 'due' (two of you-'ns) can have a choice of 6 tasty and filling entrees along with a mimosa, belini, or bloody Mary which is custom built for you tableside by a very pleasant bloody Mary chef! The smoked bacon was thick, tasty and perectly cooked, and all dishes seem to come with the parmesean fries. Yum. FYI. Ohio crazy ancient Sunday liquor laws have recently changed, which restricted alcohol sales before 1pm (causing me to move out of the state after college), so now you can enjoy a nice adult beverage when the restaurant opens, rather than killing time at home! read more

I was in town recently on business for three nights starting on a Sunday. As usual I had done a little advance work on places ot eat withing walking distance of the (dreadful) Courtyard Downtown. Turned out Due Amici was one of the only places open on Sunday night so I wandered in. So glad I did, I ended up eating there all three nights! The restaurant itself is nice. Exposed brick walls, rich wood tones, nice bar, clean linens on the tables. Being solo I took a seat at the bar and was promptly greeted by the bartender. Moments later I had a drink and a dinner menu in front of me. Struggling to decide between the lasagna and the spaghetti & meatballs the bartender recommended the lasagna. Great call. A good size but not ridiculous portion. Bechamel and tomato sauce lightly poured over the serving. The meat was light and "fluffy", the noodles just right, the cheese a perfect compliment. You could cut it with a fork no problem. The taste was awesome. Followed up by a rather large tiramisu serving for dessert and I happily wandered back to my (dreadful) hotel around the corner. The next night I went back and had the spaghetti & meatballs. Damn good. For a simple dish they really pulled out some flavor. The sauce was a tomato/basil sauce and you could actually taste the basil. The meatballs were veal and were cooked perfectly. You could cut away sections just by resting your fork on them. The noodles were al dente, and the whole dish was delicious. The portion was probably just right for a normal person, a little small for a big eater like me. But hey, plenty of room for dessert, right? My last night I went big. Pepperoni pizza for an appetizer followed by the lasagna. Yes, the lasagna is that good. The pizza left a bit to be desired. I had hoped for a coal or wood fired more authentic pizza but instead it was a pretty average pizza. Not bad at all, just not on the same field as the other dishes. Next time I'm in Columbus I will stay downtown within walking distance of Due Amici. Its a comfortable place with great food and a friendly staff. read more

I've been here for lunch and dinner - and the lunch incident was a few years back, and I was really unimpressed. Rude service (I guess because I wasn't dressed up?) and mediocre food. I was so unimpressed (and I much prefer Tip Top next door) that I never bothered to return. Until a friend came in town from Tiffin, and was hoping to try a nicer place, and Due Amici topped Buca Di Beppo, and also had a reservation available at 7pm since they had a concert to catch at 9pm. (Thanks Open Table!) Mussels, Artichoke dip, mushroom pizza, diablo (whatever) pasta and a filet - it was all good, as well as the mixed drinks we ordered, and the server was friendly, attentive, and spot on. So next up, I need to try their brunch! read more

What a great brunch spot!! The atmosphere here is so chill. The tall ceilings and exposed brick are stellar! This was my first time grabbing food here and the brunch menu is the perfect gateway to getting me to come back again. The breakfast pizza was classy yet hit the spot for that breakfast/lunch craving. Our waiter, Frank, provided the best service and gave great recommendations when trying to decide if the beignets were a diet splurge worth taking. (spoiler: 110% worth it!!). Beautiful ambiance. The Monday night happy hour is amazing! Half priced bottles of wine are the way to go if you plan to get more than two glasses. I, for one, had an amazing time being serenaded and enjoying the delicious pizza. This is a hidden gem. The only downside is the dungeon of the bathroom. Like you literally have to descend rock walled-stairs and loop around a prehistoric underground to go to the loo. Not even making this up. For "small plates", my brother and I split grilled asparagus and the spinach artichoke dip. Both we tasty, my brother preferring the asparagus to the dip. For entries I had the Sausage Diavollo and he had the Butternut Squash Ravioli. Mine was excellent though as the name suggests, quite hot. My brother thought his bland. We waited long enough at the table in the bar area that I asked a bar tender about drinks. He said a cocktail waitress "would be by". Our waitress was very pleasant, charming even - but the speed of service was always lengthy. Time to get water refreshed, to order entrees, for a new glass of wine or dessert once ordered longer than expectation. With many restaurants within walking distance and dozens within a five minute drive, we will not likely come back soon. read more

The service at Due Amici is always spectcular, the waiters are knoweldgable and really good at reading the table. Having been a few times in the last month or so with different groups, they've been great at 'reading' the vibe. We went last weekend and our waiter, who's name was Damian, I think, was crackin' jokes and just killing us all night. Great guy, made the atmosphere really, really special for the meal. HOWEVER, the meal itself was atrocious. Less than zero stars, if our waiter wasn't so cool, I probably would have sent back what we ordered and left. My wife got the Mista salad and it was okay but lackluster for the price. She also ordered a side of risotto which was dry. I got the grilled chicken wrap which is supposed to have greens, tomatoes, and balsamic dressing. Maybe it was the Chipotle problem of the stuffing falling to one end of the burito, or warp in this case, but other than one bite, there was like no dressing in the thing, and the veggies and cheese were so scarse I'm not totally sure they were in it. Every bite was a dry, boring bite of microwave chicken in a bland wrap. I can't articulate to you how bad this thing tasted other than to say I've had better pre-made wraps off a refridgerated shelf at a gas station. It came with parmesan fries, which were cold, undercooked fair-style french fries with some parmesan cheese thoughtlessly shaved on top. No glaric, no melty goey goodness, just bland, dry cheese. The whole meal sucked, and our group couldn't believe we paid over a hundred dollars for the underwheliming meal. That waiter kicked ass though! read more

This is my second time here. Several years ago I was here for lunch but this time was for a private work event dinner. We arrived early to set up our materials and then hung out until our guests arrived. The staff accommodated with pouring drinks for us and even bringing out some bread early since we were starving. I had wine, but knew I couldn't enjoy it until after I presented, so I asked for a Sprite. It was quite awful. It was like half water, or their lines needed cleaned really bad. I didn't say anything to them. Our guests arrived and I was approached by the staff concerned that they'd not taken orders by our requested time. To no fault of them we'd not sat down yet and I told them they could start right away. Of course then the boss had everyone introduce themselves. We had a pre-set menu arranged by our event manager. I went with the chicken parm, and everyone received a salad prior. Our group doesn't do dessert as so many get wasted. The salad was really nice, I loved blue cheese - and this was a smoked one-and amazing, and it's common to have the candied walnuts, but the combination with green olives was quite interesting and tasty. There was a light sherry vinaigrette on the salad. We were also served warm bread prior to the salads arriving. The chicken Parmesan was tasty. Having not eaten lunch that day and traveled and walked all over to meetings I was starving, so I appreciated a hearty pasta. The red sauce had a little creaminess to it and was quite garlic-y. I know, because I was still tasting it later... lol, and I love garlic so not a complaint. This is a neat old building. I will say for holding a meeting, it was nice that they could cut the music off specifically in our room as it was necessary since we were conversing and giving a presentation. The downside is that you can hear a good bit of the bar noise esp. if they're having a real good time out there. There is a sliding barn-door type that separates and closes off the private area. At times the kitchen noise was a tad loud, and behind the gentleman that sat across from me are pipes that every time, presumably when a toilet was being flushed, it sounded like a waterfall. One other thing to note, all guests had been served and our president was presenting and I noticed the two staff members at the other end (by the beer/wine set) that they were carrying on a conversation. I could not hear them, but cannot speak for our guests that were at the other end of the table. I found it distracting and rude. I appreciated them being nearby if we needed something, but they should not have been in there having a conversation. read more

Delicious! There were 3 of us celebrating my son's swearing in. For starters, we had the Brussel sprouts (cannot recommend these enough-sauce was delicious!), a charcuterie board (all yummy meats, cheeses and olives) and the meatballs (so tasty!). My husband had the sweet potato bisque which was a seasonal offering that he just loved and a margarita pizza which he also enjoyed quite a bit! My son and I split the salmon over risotto which was cooked perfectly and so tasty! For dessert my son had the pumpkin crème brûlée which he loved! And the service was impeccable!! They are so friendly here! This is definitely a place that you can go with a friend for something great to eat or for a romantic occasion or some thing special! Had reservations and arrived early to grab a drink at the bar and just chill while we waited. Took awhile to get our drink order but aside from that the rest of the evening was perfect. To their defense it was a busy Saturday night and fortunately we found seats pretty easy it was just flagging her down to get some drinks that took some time. Our waiter was great. Gave us great suggestions and we had a blast at dinner time with a great table by the window in our own corner. He didn't rush us and he was right on target spacing out his visits to our table to make sure everything was perfect. It's not super inexpensive but I firmly believe you get what you pay for...we loved it and plan to go back. read more

I took my Mom here for dinner for her birthday. We went very early (about 4:30) because we were downtown at the art museum (about a mile away) and I had my wife and kids with me (kids are age 1 and 5). I'd read this wasn't a good place for kids (I would agree) but thought I'd minimize this by dining early, which worked out pretty well (dining room was largely empty so if my kids were annoying they wouldn't bother anyone). I didn't have a great feeling walking into the place. It had a very trendy vibe, with relatively loud house music playing. These elements, to me, do not frequently accompany good Italian food. However, I was pleased to be incorrect. Service was good. While this isn't a place that caters to families they were welcoming and nice to the kids. Food was a mixed bag, but mostly good. My wife is a big carpaccio fan, and we had that as an appetizer. I'm not into this dish (but I do eat it), and I thought their version was too chewy and a weird color (too pink...not red enough).
