Hercules! Hercules! Hercules! A not-so-small neighborhood park that provides a lot of punch. We've passed by this park on numerous occasion on our way to the waterfront. However, we recently incorporated this park during our walks and should've done it sooner. There's a paved walkway that goes through the middle and the back of the park that goes around the pond. It connects to the sidewalks and there are multiple pathways in and around the neighborhood. There's several benches along the pathways to rest and enjoy the views and wide area of grassy field to sit down, lay down or relax. In the middle of the park, there are 6 picnic tables that are spaced out proportionately away from each table with plenty of room to spare. It's also surrounded by trees to provide a nice shade from the East Bay heat. There's also the following courts for active and leisure types of activities: - Half court outdoor Basketball Court - Bocce Ball Court - Horseshoe Pits - Multi-use Field The park has a small parking lot with 15 stalls for vehicles (one handicap stall), restrooms (Men's and Women's) and a Gazebo. And yes, we've also spotted ducks taking advantage of the pond, in case you're wondering. All in all, a nice neighborhood park that is pet-friendly (Poo Bags receptacle), clean and well-maintained. I'm not just quacking.

Small as it is, it's a really pretty park! Hubbers and I came through primarily to check out the trail for our 6-month-old-newly-trained-in-walking puppy, but we were taken aback by how nice this park is. The picnic area is clean and really inviting. They have provided doggy bags and trash along the trail. The trail itself can lead you to a few places even leading to another small park (Frog Pond Park, for example.) Not a lot of parking spots, but it shouldn't be an issue unless you're planning a huge party bash of some sort. And really clean! They really maintain this area. I don't think I even saw one bit of trash/garbage during our hours' worth of walk. If you feel like taking a walk or getting fresh air or just need a quiet place to sit down and read a book, check this place out if you haven't already.

This is a glorious new park in my neighborhood that has recently opened to the public. The park is very big and has many picnic tables , 2 horseshoe pits, 2 bocce ball courts, a wonderful gazebo area over looking the large lawn, walking trails, a tree grove, a large open grassy area, and best of all a beautiful pond that is full of ducks and geese. This park should and will be the landmark park of Hercules in the near future. Duck Pond Park is extremely well manicured all year round, well lit at night, and absolutely perfect for family walks. My daughter and I walk this park every morning and love to stop and watch the ducks come and go while listening to the birds in the trees. This park is also perfect for an afternoon picnic and will have everyone entertained for hours. This park is an absolute gem and a must visit if in Hercules!

    Beautiful!

It's also right next to 'Leila by the Bay' restaurant. The playground is designed mostly for younger kids with the floor deck made from recycled rubber materials. It has a couple of toddler swings so definitely not for teenagers. We didn't have these kinds of playgrounds when I was growing up. It has three benches and three picnic tables with lots of grassy area. Depending on the time of day, the surrounding trees will provide some shade. I've taken my friends here during the pandemic just to get away from the pandemic madness while enjoying the outdoors while maintaining social distancing. The city of Hercules also does a good job of maintaining and cleaning this park, and the garbage bin is never full, which is a sign that it's being serviced in a timely manner. Best part of all, you can watch the Amtrak passenger trains and freight trains pass by on their scheduled routes. There's something hypnotizing about a train going by; no matter how many times I've seen it, you can't help but look and enjoy. It's definitely appropriately named Railroad Park.

The creek itself is 10.95 miles long running through town, but the trail is a nice, flat and paved area that many locals utilize to jog, run, walk and stroll. There are several bridges that runs through the creek, including an elevated wooden railroad bridge that is quite picturesque. On the other side of the trail is the Bay Trail, and parts of that trail is not paved, especially from San Pablo Ave. all the way to the mouth of the creek. However, both trails connect to Bayfront Park towards the railroads and Pinole Shores. So depending on what route to take, you can spend quite some time to get your exercise. For us, it's the exercise, walking the dog and being outside. Especially when the weather is nice, it's quite a nice stroll with enjoyable views while being out in nature and still in an urban setting. However, it's the best of both worlds and the city of Pinole does a great job of maintaining the trail. Along the creek is also Fernandez Park, with kids' playground, community center, basketball court and a baseball field. It gets busy during the weekend with plenty of outdoor activities for both adults and kids alike. The creek is a mixture of both salt and fresh water that attracts countless of wildlife. I think there's always a family of ducks that are always swimming or just hanging around the banks of the creek. There's definitely fish in the creek since you'll spot their activities on the water. And the many types of birds that will stop to take a bath or feed during their migration. At the mouth of the creek where it meets the bay, there's a waste water treatment plant, and depending on where the wind blows, you might get a whiff of an unpleasant smell. However, it's quite a nice area to explore during low tide as you can walk a pretty good distance off shore. Make sure your wearing the right kind of footwear since it's very muddy. Doing this activity makes me feel like a kid again. Here's a little secret: On both sides of the trail, there are rows of bushes that grow wild berries. People forage these bushes all the time and we've done our fair share of foraging. I've even made several milkshakes as a result of our foraging. I'm not gonna tell you which are the sweet ones, I'll let you figure that out yourselves. Oh, and the bushes are very thorny so be careful. Don't say I didn't warn you.

We lucked out and came through on a nice clear late afternoon. The trail is available for walkers (for both 2 and 4 legged creatures) as well as bikers. People were conscious at social distancing (given the current pandemic crisis we're currently going through) which I thought was really cool. We really enjoyed it. We even lost track of how far we went because we got distracted looking out the water. The only thing I would suggest for improvement is maybe to have more trash bins. Don't get me wrong - the trail is generally nice, but it would be better if I wasn't seeing a bit of garbage here and there. (Yeah, there are some undisciplined people out there, shame on them.) Hubbers, our pup and I liked it so much we made a return visit in less than 48 hours. Definitely a good go-to to catch some fresh air and getting some steps in!
